DC Studios Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I've had serious diminishing returns with Mike Flanagan. While I loved Hill House, I liked every project after slightly less than the last.

Hill house was the start of the end for me, lol.

I respect people that like it, and understand, but for me...

he took one of the scariest stories written and made it the tamest thing possible

Yeah, I officially quit on him after Midnight Mass.

Hill House >>>>> Bly Manor > Midnight Mass

Didn't watch Midnight Club.

I understand if you have to quit the board in vampiric protest.

I wanna high five you, lol.

How's no one in that town know what a Dracula is.

and the vampire?! Just bury yourself in the sand until it's night time, it aint complicated!

argh!

Naaah, Midnight Mass is a masterpiece. Maybe my religious trauma is still just fresh enough that it hit home, but I loved the allegory there, and some of those monologues, while definitely a little self-indulgent, were absolute bangers. Like a slightly more polished early days Stephen King (not a knock against King- the man's a legend, but he definitely let the coke do the writing there for a bit). Loved House of Usher too; detestable people, the lot of them, but still hated to see them die (while simultaneously loving how each death played out).

Point is- I'm stoked to see what he can do with someone like Clayface. Though, with his ability to do sorta emotional horror and thoughtful terror, I'd really love to see his take on Scarecrow too. Especially since the man loves to monologue, so he's already right up Flanagan's alley. 😅

Well, if it helps i like his movies! because they have less of his....monologues, lol

Like Doctor Sleep was fun, Oculus was neat, Hush was great, I loved Geralds Game.

it's just his tv shows leave me annoyed

But y big Midnight mass things is like...one of the reasons I dislike Walking Dead is it sort of strains credulity that this is a modern world where the works that influenced them just don't exist.

Like, the dude saying "I met an angel" and literally no one once says "Hey...he drinks blood...you know, like Dracula? The vampire? You heard of him right?"

like, have skeptics, for sure, just don't try and tell me "Oh yeah, vampire lore just doesn't exist."

When i mean, it's got to if there's an actual vampire, right?

I liked Midnight Club, but the story isn't completed so I would skip it... Except for the part where he did the most jump scares in one minute.

"But they're not the only little friends we're going to see ... "

Hmm ...

Nah.

We know Gunn has a penchant for weird off the wall characters. But I'm with you. Bat-Mite? Nah.

But Mxyzptlk? A long shot, but maybe ....
