DC Studios Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

That's okay. You're like the opposite of those kids from the 90s Apple Jacks commercials: we don't like what we don't like! 🤷‍♂️

I liked Harley as comic relief in BTAS. She was just fun. Then they added more depth to her and made her sympathetic which is probably what made her a star. "Harley's Holiday" is one of my favorite episodes of BTAS. It has such a sweet ending.

Harley is great in BTAS. Hyper violent & competent Hot Topic Harley considerably less so. Especially with Robbie’s now you hear it now you don’t “accent”.

I feel like a terrible feminist to admit this, but:
I prefer animated series-style, jester onesie, conflicted-about-leaving-Joker, perpetual-abuse-cycle Harley. NOT because I don’t want to see empowered female characters, I swear!! I just feel like she works better as a cautionary tale, although as not-a-woman I may not be the best pair of eyes on this.

I also prefer Poison Ivy as a psychopathic mass murderer who uses plants as weapons and who’s only “metahuman” aspect is an immunity to poisons (and who has normally colored human skin). I’ve got no trouble with Ivy and Harley dating, but to me it seems more potent for Harley to trade one abusive, controlling partner for another. Prior to the post-animated series character rehab on Ivy, I considered her one of the few truly-evil, full tilt monster Bat-villains like Joker and Scarecrow.

I thought the whole “ohhhh shit Max is evil!” was a fun twist at that time. Still do. FOR THAT STORY.
But yeah I’m glad to hear he will be the Max that I know and love in the DCU.

I remember reading Max Lord shooting Blue Beetle in the face in my car that Wednesday. In retrospect I do not like it, but at the time it felt like a story that mattered. It certainly did the next few years of DC, but that era's bent to adulting previously fun characters is something Waid and Gunn are still trying to make up for.

Speaking as a Ted Kord fan, I still consider his death a really good one. He went out a hero and drove others to action in ways he couldn't in life.

As an added bonus, he gave us a really good time travel story in Booster Gold, so extra win.

It helps that he was followed by a really good replacement character, so it his legacy is pretty great too.

I think the only complaint I have on the handling of Blue Beetle is that the Arrowverse shows introduced the Atom and Palmertech for what was clearly meant to be Beetle and Kord Conglomerate.

Little late to the game, but I just finished watching Superman with my son. I'm not really a Superman guy, as I've made clear plenty of times. But goddamn if this isn't one of the best superhero movies I've seen in a very long time. It really felt like it did everything right.

True story.. I still haven't gotten around to watching season 1 of Peacemaker. It's on the giant list of things I want to watch and haven't.
