I think audiences are smart enough nowadays to be able to tell the two apart. I remember that was a big part of why certain villains couldn't be used in shows back in the day, like why Scarecrow couldn't be used in The Batman (even though he was planned and even had a really cool character design). Rumor has it that's why they gave a very Two-Face-esque storyline to Clayface in the series too, because Two Face was being used in The Dark Knight, and studios thought it would confuse audiences if a villain that just appeared in a movie appeared in a show, and they didn't want to oversaturate the market. The only exception being, of course, the Joker because, well, it's the Joker.
But nowadays with all the various multiverse movies and variants and all that, I think audiences are smart enough to know which is which and which is related to what else. There's always gonna be people confused, granted, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as it was (not that I think audiences would've ever been that confused, but that's what studios thought).

You would think. I know people who were VERY confused by Chris Evans in Deadpool & Wolverine. And some who thought Fantastic Four is DC, so obviously that movie opened things up for Batman V. Wolverine.
Well, to quote Professor Hulk in Avengers Endgame: "These are confusing times". It is what it is. We're just going to have to deal with it. At least Gunn put the brakes on more Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman movies, otherwise we'd have two Wonder Womans (Wonder Women?) running around.
After seeing Superman yesterday, I am very excited about the future for DC. James Gunn made me care about a talking Racoon, a walking tree, a dog that wears a cape and flies, a cub reporter for the Daily Planet and a man with a Moe Howard haircut.
Just think what he could do with icons like Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman.

I saw he also said every movie will have its own tone, rather than all being the same as Superman, which feels like an obviously good move to me.

They went back to HBO Max the other day. I point this out only because their incessant rebranding is hilarious.

I ran out to see Superman this morning because I thought it deserved to be seen without spoilers. I... give it a solid C+.
Of all the characters, some how Jimmy Olsen came out as my favorite. Likely because it was such a fun new take on the character that I sat up and took notice. I think I really would've liked punk rock Lois, but they had to tell us rather than show us, which I think is a victim of an over-crowded cast. Like, I think we were supposed to see the Daily Planet staff as a crew, but they rushed through every scene with them that it wasn't until near the end when I realized the one guy was Ron Troupe.
On the other hand, I really liked that Luthor's crew included Otis and who I can only assume is Dabney Donovan (not sure if he was named in the movie). Just fun nods to fans, and not meant to be anything bigger.
I've been a long time fan of Nicholas Hoult, but he was sadly miscast as Lex Luthor. Listening to him talk, I became aware of how good his writing and dialog was and how he just wasn't living up to it.
Oh, and I love love love Ma and Pa Kent. Like with Jimmy, a different interpretation that carried so much heart in so few scenes.

All told, I went into this movie thinking it was probably going to be a very good 2nd or 3rd movie in a trilogy, but now it feels like a really solid 6th movie in a cinematic universe.

Of them all, I liked Mr. Terrific the most, but it really annoyed me that he was so critical to Superman's final victory, this being a Superman movie and all. Also, once I noticed his mask just included black lipstick, I couldn't see anything else when he was talking.

These are also the people who took the poster for the movie and photoshopped Trump's head onto Superman's body. They don't want any "message" unless it's their hateful one. Luckily, the box office seems to be proving her wrong, and I hope whatever complaining she has from here on out falls on deaf ears. I'm sure whenever the new Batman movie comes out, she'll have something to say about "growing up without the traditional parental figures" or "an older man grooming a younger man to dress up with him and fight crime". Always something with these fools.
ANYWAY. Apropos of nothing, I'm looking forward to seeing Superman beat the snot out of hateful individuals. Evil always gets what's coming to them.
