Edit: I posted late last night and perhaps I misinterpreted the Kickstarter post. He calls it the paint master and says: "These are physical print models of the digital files, and have all revisions and tweaks in place. This is as close as you can get to production tooling samples, just short of that."

Maybe he's just talking about the sculpt and it's not fully painted? Not sure why the muzzle and ears are pink and the hoofs are painted, though. If I was him, I'd have really noted where this stands on paint.

He still has some real nerve calling anyone a slacker, given how long it's taken them to get to this point. What a joke.

I hope I am missing something because the sculpt looks very close to the proposed, but the paint is really letting it down.

I did the back and forth between the Kickstarter art and these shots and these barely look painted.
 
Yeah, they barely look painted. And if that's as close to production as we can expect a photo to be.. well.. that's a problem. The horse doesn't even look like it's a uniform shade of white. The body is more yellowy (maybe that's my colorblindness?). And, in my opinion alone, I think the heads turned out a bit more cartoony than the art. The joint under the neck also has a huge gap, which isn't present on the input art.

I agree 100%, but I am not sure if that is due to the mouth being open for the bridle? I think it is the lack of paint detail around the eyes as well.

I think it's mostly the paint, for sure. The sculpt is a little softer than I'd like, which doesn't help at all. But the paint kills it.
Also, comparing the head-to-neck transition in the paint master versus the art... the head comes off as a bit big and disjointed from the neck in a way that's visually displeasing and furthers the cartoony nature of the sculpt. And they can't argue 'that's just articulation, baby' because Boss Fight already did this better 300 years ago.

I will hope you are correct (and that I also misinterpreted) that he was just sharing the sculpt and not the paint.

But found this definition online:
Paint Master
A paint master is a figure that is fully painted in the correct scheme and in the correct colors. The figure itself can be a hardcopy, internal first shot, or first shot. This master shows the manufacturing vendor how the final toy should look. The vendor creates the proper paint masks and makes sure the paint that will be used is the correct color. The paint master usually is accompanied by a set of paint swatches.

It's confusing, but he says: "Thought you would like to see the progress on the paint masters." That, to me, implies that the paint master is still a work in progress. I think?

He's just really bad at this. We shouldn't have to dissect an update to figure out what's happening. It's funny, too, just one "hooray" comment on Kickstarter. I think a lot of folks have tuned out on this project in the time it's taken to get here.

I think he meant 'progress on the paint masters' as in 'the progress we've made getting -through- all the paint masters' - not that they're showing unfinished paint masters. It means here's the ones that are done, there's a bunch we still haven't done. Which, itself, is kind of a fuckin' problem to not have finished all the paint masters when everyone has been waiting for 2 damn years while you mostly fuck around with your G.I. Joe Old West homage figures that weren't even supposed to be the point of the KS.
This, for the record, is the SECOND 'horse' Kickstarter from these guys where the horses have been treated like an afterthought.

Feeling more and more like an idiot for dropping $150 on three of these goofy looking horses. Ah well, hopefully the finished product will look better. I'm surprised they thought it would be a good idea to post that pic. There's gotta be better angles, right? ....right?
 
Like I said, he's really bad at this. And yeah, that makes sense that he's talking about progress on all the horses, which tells me these two horses are set. Bad angles or not, they are not good.

Finally, someone's asking questions about the paint on Kickstarter. We'll see if they get a reply.
