Boss Fight Studios 1/12 and EPIC HACKS

I absolutely preordered her from Boss Fight. I'm a sucker for all the Red Sonja figures i can get.
Anyone think BF should do 1 12 classic game tomb raider figures? The remastered ones make me want a classic style figure in realistic looking plastic. I'd say LC should do one but it'd end up being like $80 or some nonsense. With Boss Fight they can release clothing options and more weapons for cheaper.

Another example, I abhor the politics and ethics of places like Chick-fil-A or Hobby Lobby, but damn, if that isn't a real good chicken sandwich and Hobby Lobby is the only craft store that sells my Vallejo paints for customs near me. No one should judge you for patronizing who you choose. You can appreciate the product without liking the people behind it.

This is where I tend to fall on pretty much everything, including movies made by dubious people. We need to be able to accept that someone is a shit human being while also accepting that the shit human being in question made something awesome that we enjoy.

I see no reason to deprive myself of something I enjoy just because a stranger I've never met was involved in making it and he/she turned out to be a terrible person. Why should I punish myself for that? There are limits, of course...there are Roman Polanski and Mel Gibson films I enjoy very much, and some that I consider in my most favorites of all time. That doesn't mean I have to seek out their new stuff, and I typically avoid those things, but the films that I enjoyed prior to Gibson's meltdown or prior to learning what Polanski did? Nah. Why punish myself by never watching Braveheart again when Mel was rewarded loooooong ago for that movie? First and foremost, I see no reason to punish myself. Secondly, I see no reason to punish the (sometimes hundreds of) people who weren't assholes who had a hand in making the thing that I enjoy. They worked their asses off, and shouldn't be punished because of one guy.

That's just how I see it though, and everyone's morality is different. You gotta go with what feels right to you.

I bought Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto when they were on sale super cheap at Amazon a while back but that's about the extent of my Popeye familiarity so I never really planned to go any deeper.
This is exactly my experience with the BFS Popeye stuff. I opened Popeye but never got around to opening the other two. Regarding Popeye, he's ok/good. I remember being a bit frustrated with the hair/hat, as the hat doesn't stay securely enough for me. And I don't quite remember Popeye having hair, but maybe there's variance between different media/eras.

RNL actually stands for REAL Nerd Life. Totally different person, I expect. Rick's Nerd Life is clearly casual, at best.

Also worth pointing out that Rick and I do not know each other (so far as I am aware) and therefore we either have similar sources for our information, or our separate sources agree on the details. But nothing I said here came from Rick, and presumably vice versa.

As for Bobby Vala, like most complete dumbfuck lunatics, he's a right-winger. That alone causes friction between him and BFS then and now, as it has mostly always been staffed by lefties (with the possible exception, I believe, of Dave Proctor - the first founder of BFS to leave the company -- possibly specifically because of ideological differences with the other founders). And also can confirm from what I've heard that basically everyone in the industry hates Bobo and that he really has no choice but to run his own toy company because practically no one wants to work with him.
He's a piece of garbage, a wannabe tough guy, and sucks at his job. That's why he got shitcanned at Hasbro and has jerked off to his grudge about it ever since. Also, he PERSONALLY BLAMED ME when his first Kickstarter failed, for those of you that weren't around on Fwoosh to see him do that. It was hilarious because he's such a fucking loser and all I did was tell everyone why his action figures kind of sucked and why he was bad at his job (to be clear, I only said things that were true and you know they were true because he fixed it all prior to his successful Kickstarter -- which means I actually fixed his company for him and never got a dime).

If all this wasn't enough to get you upset with BFS, by the way, everyone should also know that what Andrew did to Erik and Catrina has basically caused Erik to have a complete breakdown and at least consider (not sure yet if he'll ever follow through with) completely abandoning the toy community and moving on to do something else with his life, as far as I understand. Like... this situation broke him. Not something I'd say is deserved for a guy that's legitimately one of the kindest dudes I know.
Late to the party, but I love the sentiment in this thread toward Vala. When I first got into the YouTube toy scene (watching videos and gearing up to have my own channel), I eventually landed on his channel through the algorithm and watched a few videos with the understanding that "this guy worked for Hasbro, so he knows what he's talking about." Well, it certainly doesn't take long before you start to notice something is off about that guy.

I still put on his vids every now and then when I need someone to laugh at. He does a ton of "toy hunt" videos that simply amount to him walking around the toy aisle and bitching about toys that other companies put out. There's the usual Hasbro bitching, but he also bitches about McFarlane and a lot of complaining about children's toys, which is weird. It doesn't surprise me to learn he's a right-winger, he talks a lot about "MOMS who shop for their kids' birthdays", and "MOMS who see this stuff" and it's never "Dads" doing the shopping. That's always red flag when they only mention the women doing the shopping. And all he does is whine, whine, whine, and bitch bitch bitch.

And he has a camera man, too, which is fucking hilarious :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: you see guys like Mad Hatter doing a toy hunt, they just hold out their phone. Not Bobby, though. He has to have his little "entourage" to film him and lick his nuts. What a douche :ROFLMAO:

Ok, sorry for going off topic, Bobby was days ago but I just discovered the thread. You may all continue now lol

Popeye's hair is orange in the original Segar comics these figures are based on. I agree though, the hair makes his hat sit funny and fall off easily. They improved how hats attach in the most recent wave.

I was not a big Popeye fan before these figures came out, but I've always liked the overall aesthetics and variety of the characters. Since getting into the line, I've read a lot of the classic comics and now have specific characters I'm hoping they make. I realize the line has gotten pretty deep and probably to the point of characters that are too obscure to support sales. If wave 3 is the end, I still think it's a great line.

Not to derail this thread into a bag on Bobby Vala, but I found his personality and antics easy to justify skipping his product from the get-go. He bragged about how much it cost to get a lawyer to secure the Action Force name, which I thought was a total waste of money. No one is buying the line because of its name. So if he was making terrible financial decisions like that, I figured the line was already problematic. A few years go by, and he licenses Rivian for his first vehicle. Again...why? Why not pay someone (or have one of his designers...are there any on-staff?) to make an original vehicle which then he wouldn't have to pay licensing fees for? Another piss poor decision. Anyway, I haven't bought any Valaverse items, even weapons, and never will.

You know, now that you mention it, I always thought this place needed a "Bag on Bobby" thread!

We should make one & then all share the stupid shit he does

Just make it a general "Collecting Community Personalities Gripe Thread" and we can hate on him and all of the annoying "influencers" from YouTube.

I'm kind of willfully ignorant about behind the scenes drama, so I haven't really set a personal code about supporting assholes.

I'm also never sure if we're getting the full, accurate story and I don't want to cancel anybody based on partial information.

As far as Bobby Vala goes, I'm just going to leave my thoughts in an Action Force thread to not get this thread too off-track.

Yeah I would like a take on classic Lara based off of the old Top Cow comic art. It's not exact but as the world's foremost, Amanda Conner fan, I feel like two are contemporary hair portraits are based off of her artwork. So if we could get that going with any of Laura's old artists I would be down.

And I don't want LC near it. My goodwill with them has worn thin.

Last I had heard Crystal Dynamics was now owned by embracer, but embracer is a $2 billion disaster so who knows what could happen with Lara.

LC as in LooseCollector? What drama is going on with him/them?

Having been with them from the start, I just don't find the product in hand to live up to the pre-production press. Plastic quality, articulation, engineering, paint apps.

Not strictly LC's fault, there were (still are?) distributed by Executive Replicas, run by some dude named Winston. I think @Damien had a Winston story? If not him, somebody else on the old forum did.

My personal experience with them was my order for Taarna being a complete disaster and Winston personally dicking me around with piss poor service and communication.

I just don't find LC to be worth it (still love the Rocketeer Betty set) as a product, and they lost me.
