Boss Fight Studios 1/12 and EPIC HACKS

Is this the right place to post this, because I just got my Boss Fight Garfield figures and something just seems off with the scale… is it just me?

I had to source another dog to go with Garfield, but damn if this one doesn’t cost a lot more. At least he comes with his own chew toy accessory.

Sure the scale might seem off, but I can tell it's the bossfight Garfield because you can't see the stripes on his face from the front.

I read somewhere that was a licensor decision that BFS tried and failed to fix. Maybe that was just BFS trying to cover up their mistake. I don't know why the licensor would want the stripes to be short. It's interesting that the stripes have been fixed in the new black and white version.

It would also be something they let NECA do, but not BFS, not that licensors are always heralded for their consistency in how they apply certain rules. Could just be a matter of NECA being more willing to fight harder for such a small detail than BFS may have been.

I'll be honest, that is not a thing I would have noticed had it not been pointed out. It looks like Garfield to me and also "ooh, life size...." was all the input my brain really needed. I'm still waiting on the normal size Garfield from EE, they only sent me Odie so far. After that, I've got John from BFS and Garfello from NECA on order, and I'm probably good.

It is strange that this and the regular don't have the stripes. Garfield was one of the first things I learned to draw "well" as a kindergartner, and the teacher that taught me made a point about the stripes on the front view. Both the finishing touch, and fun to scribble. And then as an adult, I've done graphic design packaging work with assets. I chalked up the figures to 3D space, but I see the black and white one amended it.

Interesting.

It's definitely one of those things where it's a cheat in 3D to see the stripes from the front. If you see a drawing of Garfield from behind it doesn't really look like they should be visible, but tell that to Jim Davis. When Nickelodeon did that CG cartoon of Garfield more than a decade ago it was designed like this, and from the front he was just orange in the face. My kids went through a phase with that show so it's the first thing I think of when I see the BFS figures. Never saw the newer movie so I don't know how they approached that one.

I always think of the rule that Mickey Mouse needs to have both ears showing no matter what you're doing. Maybe they're just not as stringent with the fat cat.

My kids used to watch the 3D Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show and his ears do some freaky shit on that thing whenever he turns his head.
But I remember them lampshading it once by him proving his identity because his ears did that when he turned in place.

That did get a chuckle out of me.

Decided to cancel the steampunk Sonja after 6 days in my PoL so I would get my money back. It must be a terribly mediocre figure if they felt that sending out early review copies wouldn't do it any favours. After a week in stock I really would have expected somebody to review it by now even without review figures being sent out for free, but I guess that $70USD price tag turned a lot of people off.

BFS figures have gotten wildly overpriced and this is definitely a glaring example of that. Somehow $4 worth of accessories translated to taking a 40 dollar figure and making a 70 dollar figure? Pure greed.
Also, let's be honest, the first Sonja didn't exactly get GLOWING reviews. You can sum up basically every review with 'very pretty figure with joint issues and floppy secondaries that drive me crazy I try to pose it.'

The new one should have less floaty bits. It looks like most of her gear is fairly form fitting. I have mine ordered from BF direct cause I wanted the extra axe and chest piece. They still havent shipped her. Oh well, eventually. But she looks better then the first one.
