BAF Waves - Themed or Mixed?

I like the BAF concept and usually the execution. I hope it continues. I would much rather have an additional piece to get an additional character rather than a mini comic or nothing. Especially for the same price.
It may be the only way we get larger characters that are not going to be a Deluxe offering or are too small to be a made-to-order set like Orka, Griffin, Anaconda and Rattler.
Notice how when Spider-Man went to Retro Cards only there haven't been any large scale C/D list Spidey characters that would have been perfect BAFs like Stegron, Grizzly or any of the Spider-Slayers?

I prefer themed waves.
X-BAF waves have the luxury of most X collectors are all in and will buy them all.
Avengers BAF waves usually offer some Avengers, some villains and some allies, like Defenders and New Warriors.
There should be a Villains BAF every other year, because there are so many villains out there and they aren't showing up in Mini Comic Retro Card waves. Thank goodness the Spidey Retro Card waves usually include at least 2 villains. Same with Retro Iron Man waves.
The Strange Tales BAF wave was good in concept as supernatural-related characters but lacked that the majority of the characters actually appearing in a Strange Tales comic book.
We are sorely missing a cosmic-themed BAF which could be stunning.
Every film release should have either a comic based BAF wave or a Retro Card wave to accompany any MCU waves.
MCU and comic waves need to stay separate.
Mixed "red brick" waves seem like, as I've often said "let's clean out the vault" waves. Most are one or two characters away from being an actual themed wave. Take Warbow out and replace him with Stingray or 1st suit Moonstone and you have an Avengers wave, Phantom Rider and Werewolf By Night being Avengers allies/adversaries. The Zabu wave was a combination X-Men and Avengers wave. Split it up and offer 2 BAF waves. The Void BAF wave was an Avengers wave with Crystar thrown in. Just like Warbow.

As for execution, since BAF waves are now Fan Channel aimed at the fans and not Target or Wally, it is totally unnecessary to include more than one A lister. Having Iron Man, a Spider-Man variant and Wolverine in the Skurge BAF is ridiculous and A list overkill. Only one is needed. Two at most. But not three.

The Zabu wave was a combination X-Men and Avengers wave. Split it up and offer 2 BAF waves.
I still think that wave was two waves but when the MCU schedule shifted late the Cap and Deadpool comic figs got combined into the Zabu wave and thrown into production. I'm curious what the BAF was going to be for the other wave. Maybe Shanna got bumped and that's how we ended up with her coming a year later in an alternate route?

Anyone know if this is close to accurate? Resilient?

Since in the 90s Toybiz had a Vault wave/toy line, why not have Hasbro do one?

Metallo (80s handbook)
Fixer (80s handbook)
Cobalt Man (original 60s costume)
Red Skull (suit and tie) (he's the "anchor" figure, to help sell the wave, to non comic book fans)
Typhoid Mary (90s costume, like what she had in the original vault line)
Alkhema (replaces Ultron, from the original wave)
Deathwatch (90s series 2 cards, with alternate series 4 cards head)
BAF Stegron (since he was in the original series, too)

That wave would be epic! Love the character selection. Alkhema, Stegron, and Cobalt Man in one wave. Wow. Would be super fun.

I mean... If they are doing an all villains wave I sure hope its better than that...

first off, Metallo is a Superman villain, so won't be in any Marvel Legends wave. Unless you actually meant the weird robot that made a single appearance in a 1954 Captain America book

Second if they are doing Norbert I really hope they do Techno first, the Thunderbolts need him. I know some people may want more but Red Skull and Typhoid Marry again... boring.

I know its all persoanal taste but I'd much rather see a line up of

Attuma
Red Ghost
Mesmero
Diamondback
Firebrand
Diablo
Vermin
baf- Orka

That wave would make me weep.

My bad, I meant Mentallo, oops. And, I was trying to go for Vault themed characters, not just villains. But I added Red Skull, cause we would need an anchor base character, to "help sell" the wave. Your wave looks, good, too. :) And, just like Red Skull, with mine, I'm guessing that Attuma is the odd one out, to help sell the wave, cause I don't think he's ever been in the Vault. :) Also, both Stegron, and Typhoid Mary were in the original toy line, so they were nostalgic adds. :)

Oh... I love Stegron so would definitely not be mad at him... I just changed the BaF because I had changed everything else and didn't want to get too Spidey-centric. But your reference to the original Vault wave makes sense. I was just thinking of 'Bring on the Bad Guys 2'.

I'd never be mad at more villains however we get them.

My Bring on the Bad Guys II Wave - according to my Top 10 list:
1) Attuma
2) Swarm
3) Nightmare
4) Lilith Drake
5) Diamondback
6) Madcap
7) Wizard
BAF - Korvac
M'Baku would be in there, but y'know - Jesse...
Baron Blood, Puppet Master and Diablo just missed the cut.
I only included never-been-made-before figures, so classic Colan Dracula didn't make the cut either.

The Bring on the Bad Guys Wave II that I think Hasbro would probably do, and I wouldn't be angry at all when I pre-order all of them:
1) Doombot - really any classic version of Dr. Doom with an alternate Doombot head
2) Attuma - this is where most of the budget goes
3) Unus the Untouchable or Mastermind in his duster - something very classic X-Men and something cost cutting
4) Nebula - reuse the What If? Nebula body and give her a classic head
5) A Serpent, most likely Diamondback - any Serpent that is a cost saver (Asp, Boomslang, Fer-de-Lance, etc.)
6) Madcap - finally give us a body for the head
7) Wizard - He'd be mostly a new sculpt, right?
BAF - Orka - a lot of reuse here. Controller body, new head and webbed feet

I’d go with the following for a new Bring on the Bad Guys wave…
  1. Swordsman -plays double duty as both Avengers villain and member
  2. Karnilla - a fairly simple Asgardian design, headgear notwithstanding
  3. A Serpent - like @Beamish said, one of the easier-to-produce cost-saving members
  4. Vermin - Spidey villain and simple reuse of the Werewolf by Night body
  5. Unus the Untouchable -pretty basic villain to make
  6. Zarrko the Tomorrow Man or Red Ghost - reuse of the previous Red Skull-type body with new heads
  7. Attuma - long past time for him, likely the budget hog for the wave
  8. Flag-Smasher - fairly easy body reuse with simple paint apps
  9. Kree Soldier troop builder (classic uniform)
  10. Graviton - simple body reuse, new head and potentially cape, though I’m sure they’ll have capes they can use already
BAF - Orka - I agree that this is a lot of easy Controller/Thanos body reuse with a couple new parts

I don't know how it happened, but I've been calling Jackal Vermin for YEARS. When Jesse mentioned Vermin at the panel this weekend I was so confused because I thought we already had Vermin.

Clearly, not a character I follow. :)

An actual Bring on the Bad Guys wave, hmm, I think I can do this

Moonstone (80s handbook)
Blackout I (80s handbook)
Kangaroo (80s handbook)
Basil Elks Basilisk (80s handbook)
Mandarin (80s handbook)
Vanisher (green costume)
Venomm (a cool Black Panther Villain)

BAF Man-Bull

Deluxe figures Porcupine (80s hand book), and Dr. Octopus (90s suit and tie, with lots of arms)

MtO BotBG character Man-Ape

Haslab Erik Josten Goliath

2 packs (Thornn II and Phantazia), (Attuma and U-Man), (Madcap and Scarecrow), (Plantman {70s cape and mask look} and Jester {80s handbook}), and (Mad Thinker and Awesome Android)

If we MUST continue with BAF waves (we shouldn't, it's a bad system), I actually think all BAF waves should be themed to the BAF.

Honestly, it should not even be difficult or controversial. Within the MU, loads of characters have interacted. Like a Kingpin wave wouldn't have to be just Daredevil variants. It could be DD, Punisher, Spidey, etc. Obviously some characters are more limiting as BAFs than others, but I really don't think there are many characters you could make as a BAF, that anyone would want, which don't have some reach where related characters are concerned.

But I definitely feel like more and more people already are, or will be soon, collecting with a narrower focus. If you are a big X-guy and just want to collect all the X-stuff, you don't want the Tusk BAF wave to be Captain America, Silver Surfer, Century, Wonder Man, and Bullseye. Oh, and Wolverine, but he doesn't have a BAF part anyway.

If it were up to me, though, I'd like it if they went even more specific with BAF waves. As mentioned already in this thread; really tie them together as teams/eras/etc. That'll never happen though. Fuckin' Hasbro won't even make short-lived teams like X-Force all in their matching costumes. Gotta have a hodgepodge of figures that actually never appeared in a comic together in those costumes.
