Articulated Thoughts General Movie News & Discussion

Yeah, sorry, my question was probably not clear. I'm wondering how the orchestrators sold the populace on this being a good idea (as it seemed voluntary and worthy of respect in the trailer). Sounds like in the book it was not strictly voluntary and the populace didn't love it (like the draft).

I am staying optimistic about Tron: Ares but honestly the hook of humans in the digital world with sentient AI characters is the most interesting thing about Tron - so not sure the AIs being in the real world is that compelling. But we'll see.

Uh...holy stunt casting, Batman! The cast for the upcoming live action Street Fighter movie has been revealed and...that's a tough sell.

Heh, indeed. I don’t recognize ANY of those names behind Dastmalchian, Momoa and . . . well . . . “50 Cent”. 🤮
“Roman Reigns” sounds like a wrestler. Am I to assume most of these guys are pro wrestlers, MMA fighters, etc.?
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Massive bummer, man.

Yeah, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are wrestlers. Orville Peck is a singer. I can't speak to any of their acting skills as I don't watch wrestling or know of Peck's acting resume, if he has one. Eric Andre is a comedic actor/host. The only other ones I know besides Fitty, Momoa and Dastmalchian is Andrew Koji from the HBO show Warrior, inspired by Bruce Lee's writing. I quite liked him in that show. He was also Snake Eyes in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins but I never saw that. I went from interested to "do I want to look at this train wreck?"

Eric Andre is a "comedic" actor. He is often enough to sway me toward not bothering with something at all. I admit he wasn't so bad in Happy Gilmore 2 of all things.

He's one of those guys I find likeable on a personal level when he's not "on", but not a big fan of his work on screen.

I admire your ability to avoid it entirely.
Heheheh I try *very* hard.

It was much harder when I was younger and tons of my friends watched so it was frequently on in the background or they were buying wrestling figures at the same time I was a grabbing Power of the Force, ToyBiz Marvel, Spawn and DC stuff.
Mostly live-and-let-live, but things got heated sometimes when they would try to use wrestling slogans during arguments: screaming “IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK” or “CUZ STONE COLD SAID SO” or calling me a “jabroni” did not lead to peaceful social interaction.
I’ve heard wresting is Good, Actually or Has Gotten Much Better, but I’ve never seen anything to compel me to dig in even a little bit. Sweaty half-naked people growling insults at each other just doesn’t do it for me.

Just saw Orville Peck as the Emcee in Cabaret on Broadway a few weeks back. Granted, it's not a role with any dialogue, and the whole point is to kinda be mysterious and playful, but he did a really good job. There's a few heavy moments in the show that he pulled off well. I'm not entirely sure that Street Fighter is going to require much heavy lifting acting-wise, but in terms of actual physical heavy-lifting, he's definitely already got the body for it.

I think I'm most intrigued by Dastmalchian. Always love him in things, but I'd never necessarily peg him for the type to be in a movie like this. Don't know if he plans on bulking up at all, but having someone so slender and lean next to all those muscly characters is gonna be an interesting contrast.
