Absolute DC Figures/Merchandise

Just saw on Bleeding Cool, Absolute Batman issue #14 sold 200,000 copies. Absolute Batman #15 has a preorder number of 300,000. First full appearance of the Absolute Joker. If Todd doesn’t have some Absolute stuff lined up for next year, he’s either been told to stand down, or he’s incompetent. DC isn’t going to want to wait another year for Mattel to get it done.

Mattel won’t even touch Absolute DC because it’s not family friendly enough and they are a YA toy company in spite of their collector market.

Having said that though, the only toy company that appears to be producing anything from the Absolute Universe is InArt and LPZZ. I won’t be buying them though because I feel like those books are chock full of trite bullshit and that’s not my preferred style of storytelling

I just remember how long the wait was for Dark Knights / Metal stuff. It had to wait for McFarlane. Neither Mattel nor DC Direct (pre-McF) touched it and they had plenty of time to do so. Whether that was mandated or by choice, who knows?

I'm not personally a fan of Absolute as I jumped off after only one issue of Absolute Batman. I've never really been tempted to revisit it. I was all in on Dark Knights and Metal, though. I loved those books.

I agree that the interest in figures from these Absolute story lines could be completely dead a year from now, but the comics are what - 15 months in now and still doing well? So, who knows. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.
