1/12 Diorama/Terrain/Props/Vehicles

These have been so tempting, I really want to get them so I can tag em up but yeah $100 for a plastic box is a big ask.

That company that makes the tiny recycling bin/trash can “pencil holders” should just make shipping container “lunch boxes” or “caboodles” or whatever they need to call it to sell them in mass for $30, maybe Jason Statham could make a solid B- action movie where he saves a container full of people from being human trafficked so AMC could make it a pop corn bucket… IDFK, someone just needs to make these out of injection plastic for less than $100!
Yeah. It's one of those ideas where if you really considered the build you might be able to flat-ack it too and potentially storage of them wouldn't be as big a deal either. Personally I'm a bit tired of brick-wall dio stuff. I want something a little more specific that has some character. IF you could get say 3 of these for $120-$200 injection molded, I think people might jump on it.

That said, it's for a very particular breed of collector so the audience is probably too small to make it cost effective.

Am I going to get this? Maybe. Does it ping that particular part of my brain that likes terrain/dio pieces with a lot of character? Absolutely.

I'd never heard of that site before, and now I both love you and hate you for introducing me to it. 😂 Looks like it's got a lot of stuff that I've been looking for for a while!
These are the guys doing all the weapons and gear sculpts for the Monster Force and other FMF lines. Their stuff is really nice (I've bought from them before). The only issue is if you are buying direct from them the stuff is all 3d printed as opposed to injection molded. There are some *very slight* artifacts of that manufacturing process you might notice. It's MUCH less prominent than most 3d print sellers on, say, Etsy, so you likely won't care, but the same gear when FMF uses it comes out of molds and has a cleaner finish to it.

The other downside of going to Gridiron directly is since they're doing 3d printing in small batches, the per unit cost is typically a lot higher. You can get a very customized loadout that way, but you may experience some sticker shock. There's not much they can do about that really if they want to turn a profit though.

Overall I don't buy much from them, but what I have bought I like, and the breadth and specificity of their offerings is really good.

I like Gridiron's sculpts, but the printing resolution he uses is too low for my taste because the print lines on the 1:12 weapons I've bought look fairly prominent to my eye. The best piece I own from him is a bardiche printed in translucent blue and painted to look like ice, which goes a long way to hide the print lines. Just a caution of caveat emptor.

Yeah. Like I say It's still ahead of a lot of stuff I've seen on places like Etsy, but it's not invisible. The geometry of the piece also has a lot to do with how noticeable it is. I'm sure it's a combo of compromises being made with regards to print/finishing times and profitability.

I found a place on Ali Express to source the little 1/12 scale barrels I was finding at Daiso haphazardly. These are actual metal, and are intended for cute desk storage, but scale perfectly with legends, Joes and the like. As a fringe benefit, they had a new variety I had not seen before, the classic video game explosive red barrel. The perfect addition for my shelf dios.

At Daiso you can find these for just over $2 if you have one close buy. On Ali I was able to find them for a little over $3 per pop. The packaging was just a soft envelop so mine have a few dings, but none that break the paint and it sort of adds some realism anyway. Considering how well my local Daiso is picked over by toy resellers, I consider these a bargain. Figured I'd give you all the scale of them in a pic including a skeleton for your Return of the Living Dead ambitions as well as Storm Arena Ken due to his well documented hatred of barrels.

Come on, you post an image but NOT a link to the store?

They look great, and the plastic ones I got from the dollar store a few years ago work, but I had to paint them so they weren't neon green.

That didn't bring them up, but I did find some.
Uggh, yeah, I was working from my phone and for some reason the page showed what you found but linked to something else. Very weird. But yeah, those are the ones.

I'm not a big fan of the company branded ones, but the others seem handy for a lot of modern or near future dioramas.

wow. what a crazy coincidence. I took pics of some more of these oil drums last night. just didnt around to posting them. i bought the 3 varieties from Daiso months ago (red, green, yellow biohazard). got 3 more from Aliexpress: tan camo, green camo, yellow flammable.
