ML Secret Wars

I don't know how enthusiastic I'd be for all of those characters we already have, just on Secret Wars cards.

Some figures I wouldn't mind seeing though - beyond Volcana and black costume Thing - are Wasp in green and purple, Professor X in yellow leotard, short hair green costume Rogue... and from Secret Wars II Magma, and training suit Cannonball.

Well, it'd be a great way for collectors who missed out on those characters the first time around to get them and a great way to find the characters as solo releases. Remember, just because you and/or I might have a figure of a certain character doesn't mean a current or new collector does. Hasbro's also been spacing out making new figures for some characters longer than others. For example, look at Doc Ock. The last time he was made as a solo release was in 2018 if I remember correctly, then he got repainted for the $50 two-pack with Silk, and, despite the animated figure in the two-pack with Aunt May and the Alfred Molina/Deluxe movie figure, we haven't had a new comic-based Ock figure since. Besides, your list of Volcana, Thing, Wasp, Professor X, Rogue, and Magma or Cannonball sounds pretty cool.

I know everyone has their own picks for what figures should be in a new "Secret Wars" wave. For me personally, I think new figures of classic Thor, classic Doctor Doom, classic Doctor Octopus with bendy wire tentacles, Volcana and Wasp are long overdue and I would welcome them in my collection, is all.

Honestly, there are so many holes to fill in our collections that it’s hard for me to get excited about sub-lines like Secret Wars, X-Men 97, and GamerVerse that by design exclude the characters needed to fill said holes. At this point we’re down to the occasional mini-comic wave and/or BAF wave to have a shot at most of those characters.

Look, I get it. These themed sub-lines are a great way to keep the top selling characters in circulation, and not every collector has bought them 10x over at this point. I’m not asking for the whole Kit Kat bar. Just break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar a few times a year, and I’m good.

As for this wave in particular, I only preordered Falcon and Absorbing Man, and I’m still on the fence with Absorbing Man. It’s a great figure of Crusher Creel, but we’ve kind of come to expect our Absorbing Man figures to be absorbing something. Magik is cool, but I already have a similar version (Walgreens Magik head on Walgreens Dani body), and I’m just not a big enough fan to justify the upgrade at this price point.

"Hey Carl, you want to go out tonight?"

"You know it, baby. I'll even stencil on my eyebrows for you."

Didn't even realize the Daredevil was a completely new and dedicated sculpt. We will definitely need to see this used again soon on a less black-liney comic deco.

I would hope that with DDBA coming out at the end of March we'd see at a few DD related releases this summer, like at least a classic DD and maybe an Elektra, but for some reason they really don't seem to be trying to capitalize on the synergy model anymore. I mean, were there any F4 related product produced to coincide with F4 First Steps other than perhaps Dragon Man?

Lost opportunities.

They've never seemed to capitalize on that synergy in the ways we'd want them to. Four Thor movies and not a single Thor wave (comic OR movie!). Likewise few comic releases to coincide with 3 GotG and Ant-Man movies, no comic Thunderbolts or FF last year, etc. I suspect it has as much to do with the preferences of the license-holder as Hasbro themselves, but either way it feels like a lot of missed potential.

They did a few moves in recent years that seemed to be in the right direction - comic Starlord, Ronan, Yondu, and Moondragon/Drax around the time of GotG3, the classic Ant-Man exclusive near Quantumania, Gorr around Love & Thunder, etc. It seems like it would be such a no-brainer to do a big merch blitz when any property has a movie in theaters and get as much out around that property as you can.

What bugs me most about this wave’s Spider-Man is that he’s on the RYV body, unlike the previous wave’s Spidey, who uses the Amazing Fantasy body. They couldn’t even keep that consistent within the sub-line.
Yep. It's kinda baffling. That we haven't gotten a single card released of the AF15 body in red/blue is also kinda weird. This release could have easily been that with like 2 snap on pieces and the extra arm.

Not getting Elektra in red and a regular DD on that new body this year would be... so stupid. I get that there are some financial benefits to the multipack releases, apparently. But a single card DD and Elektra would be major sellouts... which is also money, right?
