Quitting/putting collecting on pause

I'm definitely considering selling several of my Mezco One:12 figures, due to worries that they will deteriorate.

Which Batman is it that turns pink? I have the first DKR they did (black/grey costume), the first Batfleck one, and the Sovereign Knight with black/dark grey costume. I haven't noticed any pink appearing on them, but my colorblindness may be unable to pick up on it in the early stages.

They did that trilogy of Batman figures. It was the middle one. The regular edition. Sovereign?

Yeah, that one was Sovereign. Of course, they did a whole bunch of different color combinations with that one. I'm wondering if it was the blue/grey version that discolored, or if I have a pink suited Batman to look forward to in the future with my black/dark grey version.

The standard black and grey.

I was never sure if it was just thinning and it was a purple pink buck, but I lived in Mezco customs groups at the time and I don't recall seeing that.

Well damn...That's definitely the one I have. For all I know, it may be showing signs of it right now that my semi-colorblind eye can't detect.

How does Hot Toys justify using material that falls apart that quickly on $300-regular-priced products? Why hasn't their customer base revolted?

One of my big goals this year is to keep the Marvel Legends purchases down. Down to the single digits.....like five. I have all the characters from this franchise that I want. I can foresee two big roadblocks to that. One being a New Mutants wave/box set. Another would hinge on Avengers Doomsday and what they choose to make from that movie (IF figures even come this year......), particularly from the X-Men camp. We know Jackman and Marsden will be in it and I'm not counting out seeing Berry Storm or Jansen Jean Grey either. Yeah, if they do those and they put their best foot forward as opposed to corner cutting, that could put a dent in my limited ML plans for the year.

This is how I approached it last year. I mentioned this somewhere on the Marvel board, but I think I only bought between 3-5 Marvel Legends figures in 2025, including the Sentinel. Marvel is definitely a collection I can easily go way too hard on because every team basically interlaces with another team and all of a sudden your 'just this' rule results in 54 new figures in a year. Or worse. So now I'm really just down to 'my favorites.'

Unfortunately, all the money I saved buying fewer Legends figures I spent buying more Classified figures. Whoops.

I was pretty low with ML in 2025 as it is. Off the top of my head I got 97 Cable, 97 Emma, D+DD, D+ Punisher, Rachel, Feral, cat Beast......but I know there are a couple more from earlier in the year that I don't remember.

Yes, the Marvel teams are all interchangeable and after each annual comic "event" they shuffle them around again, start with a new #1. I can't play that game. I know what my personal "iconic" Avengers and X-Men teams are, I know (generally) what costumes I want them in, and I try to adhere to that.

I'm still all in on Marvel Legends and they're my primary line. However my goal is to stop buying so many re-dos and updates and focus mostly only on previously unmade characters like the recently announced Grizzly. I've been buying more of the re-treads than I like to replace pinned figures with pinless and I'm going to try to limit myself much more on that. I'm really going to try to only buy one update for every two brand new characters that I buy. If I can stick to that it would likely sharply reduce my Marvel purchases, probably by like 70%.

For other lines like GI Joe Classified and NECA/Super7 TMNT, I'm only letting myself buy figures of characters that I don't already own and only if/when they get discounted under $20 each. For other lines like Star Wars Black Series and WWE/AEW wrestling figures I only buy if they get discounted all the way to under $8 each. I'll tend to buy any figure I somewhat like in the 1/12th - 1/10th scale if it gets that low or better - as much for kitbashing and customs, or possible resale down the line as much as anything else.

I'm continuing to stay far away from all lines where their standard price per figure is over $40. I just can't justify collecting figures from those lines at those price points - no matter how good the figures are. The one exception is I've been allowing myself to buy some of the BBTS clearance sales on Super 7 Ultimates stuff if they're discounted by at least 40% or more. BBTS has done a ton of that over the past couple of years - which is why I own any Super 7 stuff at all - and it started with the TMNT stuff but I've also since bought some Silverhawks, Transformers, GI Joe and Power Rangers due to those sales.

I have a buddy that collects ML and his rule, which I actually kind of think is brilliant, is 3 years.
He keeps a little file on his computer of the release year for all the figures he has that have a good chance of having multiple releases (so he ignores a lot of the really obscure stuff that probably or definitely won't get new versions any time soon, if ever). He categorically will not buy a redo of a figure that he already has in his collection which is less than 3 years old. He said it stops him from buying every slight improvement.

I guess he developed the rule during the early days of more articulated 1:18 Star Wars figures, to stop himself from buying every Darth Vader since there was -always- a new one.

Currently assessing my bagged and binned GI Joes, also should be in the market for a label maker because nothing is classier than labeling bins with blue painter's tape and a sharpie. Gotta work on cutting back on new Classified purchases. I was mostly happy with ML 2025 where I got down to a total of 18 purchases or 22 total figures. I felt I had only a handful of ML slip ups, like when I went to Walmart specifically for Rachel, but also took home Black Widow and DD or adding movie Sue and Silver Surfer when I had no plans buying the other movie figures. I was particularly annoyed with myself over Black Widow and DD.
This is just a fraction of what I'm looking at.

You label your bins?

I have generally left them unlabeled so it's like Christmas morning every time I open one that's not clear with visible figures inside. 😁

That said, Walmart does sell a pretty good brand of label printer and you can get multiple types of tape for them, that are relatively inexpensive.

The great purge begins tonight.

It's time.

I'm ready.

It took me a week or two to really process what I'm willing to part with, what I am not going to miss. I hate listing shit on eBay, and Marketplace, it's quite literally my arduous nightmare.

But, shit's gotta go before I balk.

As has been mentioned, I did get a few things in this week, and yeah...the dopamine ain't hittin' like she used to. On certain things. I open it, I say "Pretty cool". Then it gets set aside. They go.

Others, like these Mety TMNT, I can't put down. They are so much fun, and quite literally, my childhood. They stay.

Wish me luck.

If it helps just remember that even if you end up selling one or two items that you DO miss in the long run... you'll make more than enough money here to re-buy those few items and will still end up healthier and happier for having done it.
