Quitting/putting collecting on pause

I only have the boxes for some imports, Mafex, Mezco, a few 1/6 figures, and some 3rd party figures. ALL domestic figure packaging gets tossed once it's opened. If someone wants that, they can buy a new or unopened version, depending how old it is.

I have 6 (I think) plastic foot lockers filled with Mezco figures in their boxes/bins. I've been thinking I might begin to sell off some of them, as I have a bunch of the early Marvel & DC figures, and there have been a few newer ones i've picked up that I like better, so older versions may be good to go.

They've been in climate controlled storage inside their boxes/bins for at least 3 years, so hopefully they've held up.

It's really some of the Batman ------- Knight variants and DD that would be the potential issues, based on what I had seen some people mention online.

I'm terrible at throwing away boxes. I have been a bit better in the past year, but I find that I like to keep figures in boxes if I don't have a display spot for them because I find too often figures I have bagged and stored away have something bent/warped/squished and it bothers me a lot. Even though in most cases I can fix it with a bit of heat, etc.

I started putting some figures in pencil cases like these, but have been accumulating these since. The first ones can hold most regular MLs, and I have some Loose Collector figures in a couple (Rocketeer) and The Dark Wolf and Teegra figures in them. The second link's cases can hold 2 average sized MLs per case, including smaller accessories and extra heads. Taller figures like Mattel WWE figures can fit with their heads popped off, as long as they aren't super tall (like Diesel) or more rotund bodies. These also stack and make keeping longer weapons from bending much easier.

Keep me apprised.

My favourite was when my modern knight Batman just turned pink randomly. Sadly my Daredevil started to go and I flipped him before it was too noticeable.

I've met others with a pink Batman (it was the Modern from that trilogy). No direct sunlight, no smoke. It's curious to see grey fade to Pink Panther fibreglass tones

Daredevil was pleather. The exclusive Punisher was pleather (or similar). Wolverines have had the material worked in.

It's been known to happen,.even stored nicely.

THIS. I've really only recently begun to dabble into the world of Hot Toys, but the one time I sold something and didn't have the shipper box, you'd have thought that I took this guy's entire childhood toy collection and burned it in front of him. I follow a couple Hot Toys pages on various platforms, and the number of posts I see with people freaking out about the tiniest little things is absurd. Like, a tiny little crease in the character's outfit, or a tiny, barely perceptible scuff on the skin. Sure, when paying so much for something, you want it to be in good condition, but some of the reactions are just beyond. I really try not to judge anyone, but even I feel it's a bit too much sometimes.

Yep! It gets absolutely insane lol I've even been called a liar a couple of times :ROFLMAO: There are a few sites that don't send it in the original shipper box, and put the Hot Toys box into a more sturdy (better protected) shipping box. So when I've sold them, I literally never had the original shipper. Buyers will ask "does it come with the shipper?" and when I say "It comes with A shipping box, it didn't come with a HT branded one" they lose their minds and don't believe me lol

And yeah, these things are incredibly expensive, but they take it too far. I know going in that hardly any of them actually have any sort of decent articulation, and the ones that do will most assuredly have a damaged suit before long if you actually pose them. That's something I'm ok with, because I'm buying them for their shelf presence to begin with and if they get a little permanent crease or a tear then so be it. The risk I take to have good poses. But most of those collectors are museum-stance-only/don't breathe on it/you-know-what-don't-even-look-at-it type of guys.

oh, wow! Now I need to get out my Batman and check him, I didn't know some of them were turning pink :ROFLMAO: Mad Hatter strikes again! That's wild.

I've been lucky, the only figures (that I know of) to deteriorate before my eyes were the Mezco 89 Batman (thighs started to turn to dust after a couple of months on display behind glass in no-sun climate control) and when I purchased a sealed but nearly 10 year old Hot Toys Scarlet Witch from Age of Ultron her red pleather jacket was basically dust in the box when I opened her. It was one of my first Hot Toys purchases, and taught me a valuable lesson about pleather and when to purchase / when to pass on figures of all scales that utilize it.

That's disappointing. The Crow and Solomon both use the pleather material.

I have two Mezco figures: one of them is the Crow. Wheeeee.

Deteriorating pleather is one of the main reasons I got out of 1/6th. Those figures are way too expensive to only last a few years. I bought two TB League Robyn Hood figures, and the pleather on both began flaking within half an hour after being removed from the box. Both were MIB when I got them. Of course I have no way of knowing for sure, but both sellers assured me that the figures had been stored in a climate controlled environment.

I need to take my Mezco Crow out of the packaging when I get home from work and let it “breathe” a bit.

Same.
Goddamn. I'll have to find a place to actually display him. If he's going to deteriorate in short order, I want to at least enjoy him while I have him. That, or suck it up and sell him now.

I'm definitely considering selling several of my Mezco One:12 figures, due to worries that they will deteriorate.

Which Batman is it that turns pink? I have the first DKR they did (black/grey costume), the first Batfleck one, and the Sovereign Knight with black/dark grey costume. I haven't noticed any pink appearing on them, but my colorblindness may be unable to pick up on it in the early stages.

I forgot to mention - after my Mezco 89 Batman and HT Scarlet Witch fell apart, I found a post over on the Collector Freaks forum talking about using this 303 Protectant stuff: https://a.co/d/g9p7lTe

You can get in wipes or as a spray. I put it on the pleather bits on my Hot Toys and so far so good, capes and boots and other pleathery things have held up just fine. I even used it on the Batman Forever Batman & Robin Hot Toys suits, which are just a rubbery plastic and not pleather, and they've held up great. I think the post said every 6 months or so you can reapply, keeps the pleather and plastic from cracking/stretching and getting dried out (assuming keeping out of sunlight, decent climate, etc).

I haven't used it yet on any 1/12 scale stuff, but pleather is pleather.
