G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

This may not technically be the spot for this but I'll justify it as being a thread for GI Joe and personal creativity. I drew this a while ago giving some love to a personal favorite GI Joe who gets no attention. It was my first really attempt at using alcohol markers and I learned quickly that the color on the cap is NOT necessarily the color it will look like on paper. The yellow ended up too mustard-y but I rolled with it. I got a whole case of those markers for Christmas and I'll be doing some more playing around with them.

This is INCREDIBLE. (Also one of my forgotten old favorite Joes, great choice to recreate on the page!)

Not hard at all since I keep updating it every time you post one. I'm compulsive about this stuff, yeah.
You need serious mental help, but Lord knows I'm not gonna be the one to get it to you.

Fantastic work! Thank you for sharing that. Also, I forgot how cool that figure was. We need that in Classified.

I love his helmet, but never understood his... scanner?
No idea what it was. In my head canon as a kid the orange robot was an R2-D2 sort of character and he was the canary that you sent off into the mine field to look for land mines. I guess the hand held thing.......helps with that? Somehow?

They'll get to him eventually.

I also have a Spearhead and Max drawing somewhere but it's not colored.

TECHNOLOGY! It does... technology things.

Yup.....here it is.
You beat me to it. I was just typing out a strongly worded demand letter to see this. And I love it. Don't get me wrong, Spearhead looks great, but that Max is so great. I want that on my wall.

I always assumed it was a lil robot, too. Highly NOT advanced R2 unit/assistant.

Also nailing those later-in-the-line characters I love - Spearhead and Max are my #1 wishlist character and will be til we get 'em...

Yeah Spearhead and Lightfoot were HUGE go-tos when playing GI Joe as a kid. Those two as well as guys like Salvo, Pathfinder...I was around 8-10 years old then. I loved the comics and the cartoon but by that time the really iconic characters (the 1982-1985 characters) were phasing out of toy stores. I always wished I could get them. If I wanted characters for the Sunbow cartoon I had to hope for a v2 figure (some were decent like Battle Corps Duke, but Eco Warrior Flint is a poor substitute for 1985 Flint) At one time I remember writing Hasbro a letter asking why they couldn't put Mutt and Junkyard back in toy stores.

So those two got a lot of play, and those 88 and 89 Joes were in a unique situation because I had NO personality reference for them beyond Hama's file cards. A lot of characters from 82-85 saw action in both the comics and the cartoon, and even the 1990s characters got some story time in the (terrible) DIC cartoon series. But guys like Spearhead, Lightfoot, Muskrat, Hit and Run, Shockwave......were kind of in a narrative no man's land in 1988 and 1989--no cartoon appearances, little to no comic appearances---so we got to fill in the blanks more with those guys.

Hama used Lightfoot for the first time in forever in last month's GI Joe comic and I was really excited.

Apparently I had a soft spot for guys in yellow uniforms - Lightfoot, Scoop, and Airtight are all in my top ten wishlist right now for Classified. Muskrat, Rampart, there's a few folks during that dead zone who would be fun to see more of.

Code Name: Nemesis Immortal
File Name: Unknown
Primary Military Specialty: N/A
Secondary Military Specialty: N/A
Birthplace: the lost city of Cobra-La, deep in the Himalayan Mountains
Rank: N/A

The only information the Lewis administration has about the organism we have identified as the Nemesis Enforcer comes from incomplete footage obtained by the BAT unit assigned to the Snow Serpent squad sent into the Himalayas to investigate an occult location known only to Lewis himself. Why it was so important that this location be investigated, even at the cost of a dozen lives, is a secret Lewis keeps to himself and even his most trusted advisors remain partially or entirely in the dark. What we know is: as the Snow Serpent team closed in on a deep fissure that had been previously undocumented and unexplored in the mountain range, they were set upon in the night by an enormous creature of monstrous strength. There were no survivors, though the BAT unit was able to capture a panicked, terrified firefight that turned into an abattoir. The Snow Serpents were torn limb from limb, as was the BAT, though the android's recording system was able to connect to a satellite signal and send back what footage survived the encounter. Rather than being dissuaded, the attack seemed to embolden Lewis, who has ordered another team prepped to follow up on what the first team found.

"The footage will make you believe Dracula was real. It'll make you believe in the Jersey Devil and dragons and Satan himself. Dead, emotionless eyes and a clenched jaw of something that is almost human but not, covered in the chitinous armor of an insect and wearing the bones of creatures that haven't walked this Earth in a million years, if they ever did. Great, leathery wings beating in the air like the heartbeat of an old god. It's so terrifying, so inhuman, you can almost tell yourself that the footage is from a horror film, that it's a prank, that it's special effects. But then you hear the screaming, and the sound of an arm popping out of its socket as muscle and tendon rip away like Christmas wrapping paper, and in the end you're left with the knowledge that we are not alone in this world. That monsters are real. And that the madman we've elected king wants to feed those monsters the blood of men who were once his loyal soldiers. I should burn these notes, I know. But someone should know what we found in those mountains. Because those things can't stay there forever. We woke them up. And they are angry."

First off, fantastic. Secondly, damnit I wish I had gotten him..lastly,.who the hell is that commentary? The serpents all died... Is it the BAT?! Heh

I think it's Mindbender. Mindbender's insane, but he is a man of science, and he would have seen the footage and had to square the circle that monsters are real, and they do not give a single shit about whatever science he might throw at them to stop them.
