With the absolute crap show going on right now with tariffs and shipping I figured why not start a thread where we can talk about deals, or "steals," that we have managed to snag recently. So this isn't a thread confined to sales at stores, it can be any situation in which you got a really great deal on toys.

For me there have been two recent situations.

First Walmart Canada last month had an unusual clearance of some toys. Now we aren't as fortunate as you guys in the US with regular clearance events, and not at really low prices. However we finally had a good one, if there was any stock. Anyway I was able to snag a bunch of Star Wars Black Series figures, and some Transformers Legacy deluxe class figures, and one Leader class. All of them on clearance for $3Cdn each.

I picked up:

SW:BS - Mon Mothma & Bix Carleen from Andor, Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh & Bazil from The Acolyte, Farm Boy Luke & Princess Leia from A New Hope and Dagan Gera from the Gaming Greats subline.

Transformers - Detritus, Shadow Striker, Strong Arm and Tigerhawk (unfortunately he was missing one of his claws that go over his chest, but for $3 he is just "battle damaged").

Then this past week my closest TRU, which only opened in late 2023 was in it's final week of closeout (last day was today). So I have been swinging by ever since it went to 50% off, then 70% and finally today 80% (90% on select stuff I didn't care about). Funny thing is even today they only had Lego at 20% off. Not really a great deal for a place closing down today.

Anyway, I lucked out because it really wasn't too well picked over until this week, and today (one couple had TWO shopping carts full of Marvel and Star Wars stuff). Also I just missed out on a couple of Classified figures as I saw them on the shelf as I walked in, but someone was already there picking them up. There was a lonely Retro Lady Jaye, but I passed. So for the deals I was able to acquire over the past 10 days:

D&D Venger/Dungeon Master 2-pack for $15.
Spidermobile (good size for Legends) for $17.50.
MCU Doc Ock (recent one) for $25
ML Angel for $13.50 (Can't believe it was still on shelf for 70% off).
ML Captain Marvel/Doom 2-pack for $10.
SW:BS Holocomm Bo-Katan (x2) for $6 each. Really only got this for the light up stand, but the figure is surprisingly good. Don't see it holding up over time though.
SW:BS Holiday Edition Jawa and Purge Trooper ($22.50 each, okay deal, but I wanted them for Christmas)
ML Yondu (comic version) for $5.50.
ML Roleplay Captain Carter shield for $60.
ML Retro gold Iron Man $22.50 (more an impulse buy to add to my Iron Man Armour collection than a great deal)
Classified Quick Kick $17.50
Classified Raptor $30 (yeah I know not great, but still a good deal in Canada)

And finally Dollarama (Canada's largest dollar store chain) had the Disney Lightyear movie large vehicles. The Utility Vehicle and Plasma Drill for $5 each. Don't care about the Utility Vehicle, but the Plasma Drill has been customized by a lot of people into a great stationary weapon for Classified so I picked up a couple for just that reason.

Sorry for the long winded first post.

Last one I can recall, and honestly I feel a bit bad about it, I got the new Jean Grey Phoenix from BBTS before the price correction. They upheld the one they listed it under, which is a super stand up move and I would've still gotten her at the higher price.

Wow, hadn't heard about the Toys R Us Ontario situation. Had to check on the St. Catherines store. Still standing.

I actually haven't bought anything at a Canadian TRU in many years (before Covid probably) but it is cool to be able to stop by and look around every once in a while.

And I would love to run into $3 current series SW Black figures.

Haven't run into many great deals recently but several Walmarts around me are marking down items in the collectors' section in electronics. One store had the "Prey" predator and "Aliens Romulus" xenomorph marked $25. Another store had a $5 tag for the Super7 Godzilla Monster Island blind boxes but there was nothing left. They aren't really worth $20 to me but I would have grabbed a few of them at $5 if given the chance.

Bunch more items were marked down (LOTR animated figures were $5 and some Ben Cooper costume figures were $10) but I wasn't paying that close attention to the rest of it. With how whacky Walmart gets with marking stuff down, it's definitely worth checking out the section.

Yeah TRU Canada opened a bunch of new locations in 2023 only to turn around and close some of them now. The prevailing talk on Canadian boards is that it is probably only a matter of time before TRU Canada closes up shop. They have started putting in something called "Wonder Lab" in select locations. Looks to be a combination of McDonald's Play Place and an interactive area for kids.

If the guy who owns TRU Canada didn't have a multi-tier set up for his business where he makes money on pretty much all ends of the business it would have probably already gone belly up.

Still the best deals found at retail in Canada in recent years was when Walmart Canada was removing stuff from stock but the staff didn't remove it from the shelves. It lead to a bunch of stuff getting bought at self checkout for $0.02. If you went to a cashier it would come up that it was no longer active stock (or something) and they would refuse to sell it to you. If you went to self checkout you could bypass that situation. I managed to pick up Masterverse Battle Cat (x2), Origins Wind Raider and some Transformers Earthrise Micromasters for $0.02 each. Mega Jay Retro has a Youtube video where he managed to snag 3 Origins Castle Grayskulls for $0.02 each during that time. They seem to have stopped that now as I haven't seen that happen in a long time.

Oh and another Walmart find last year (?) was another clearance where I found a bunch of Unrivaled Supreme Brit Baker figures, and Star Wars Micro Galaxy Asajj Ventress starfighter for $1 each.

I'm going to share a not so great steal from this past week. One of my Targets has what I think is a wild amount of Super7 '89 Batmobiles. At least a dozen at the original price of $126. A week or two ago it was half price. This past week it went down to $38. How bad can this be for $88 off original price? It's not bad per se, unless you factor in the original price. McFarlane got ripped by some because they thought his 89 Batmobile felt cheap (I like it for the price), but this Super7 felt far worse. First off I was expecting some die-cast at that price, then the plastic felt thin and little brittle, and finally there were mold and seam lines on the body. Honestly the $38 was acceptable, but I was so disappointed, I returned it. I always try to own up a less than happy purchase and keep or resell, but I couldn't justify it here and took the easy way out. It would've taken up too much of my limited space. This felt like Super7 at their most outrageous pricing.

I got a Jem doll yesterday at Walmart for $14 ✨ This might have been one of those one off items my store gets and they have no idea where it goes, so they put it right on clearance (like Biker Mice). I never noticed her when I "took a shortcut" or "wrong turn" through the doll aisle. I haven't opened the box, but this is a case where whatever TLS put out for $25 is acceptable and I'm not expecting something like a $200 tbleague doll. I do think think they should've included a Jerrica head to go with the included outfit 😆. Since this was aimed at an older collector, why not bump the price to $30?

@mrboshek , at my store, the JEM dolls were part of a feature on one side of the front shelves in the doll isle. It never went into the isle with all the Barbie and other brands.

Yesterday I picked up a MotU Origins /Stranger Things Skeletor/Demogorgon 2pk for $11. Would have been nice to find the He-Man/Vecna set too, but that pack only showed up at one out of the way Target for me.

Similarly, I picked up the Adam/Cringer set for like $15, though at some places, it's been found at $8.

Oakville wasn't on the list, but closed out just the same. Store was always very good to me.
With GameStop also condensing due to real estate pricing, now my local GS is the only game in town (my area anyway) and I'm noticing it in shelf stock and even pre-order availability. Newer drops are getting scarce.

Best deal I've had this year was the Clayface Batwoman set for $20 Canuck. Flipped Bats and Clayface. Also had enough reward points at DJCCollectibles to cash out Sagar and Blanka for free, but it's just a grim reminder of my spending habits, really.

I got a deal. I ordered a $15 Jakks King Kong Homer over the weekend from Walmart and he arrived today. Thing is pretty big at 16 inches, actually looks nice and comes in cool packaging. It's boxed up in a separate package with tissue paper like a premium item.

I didn't even know this was a thing until coming across the Walmart listing. Don't know what happened here and why Walmart is just dumping them off for $15. Definitely a steal and still available as of Monday night.

That is a good deal.

I bought a couple of Mezco figures (Lord of Tears / Bag Headed Butcher) from someone on Insta for $120. Fingers crossed that what I paid for gets delivered tomorrow.

Hot Toys die cast Iron Man Mark VII 2.0 for $200. I finished the DC trifecta (Reeve Superman, Keaton Batman, Gadot Wonder Woman) and it was time to move to Marvel. I knew I either wanted Mark III or Mark VII because I consider both the first Iron Man and the first Avengers iconic in their own way. This guy showed up at a toy swap. I hemmed and hawed as I watched person after person look this figure over. I knew I wanted it and I knew I wouldn't find it cheaper so I bit. Glad I did.

I put it downstairs to display with the rest of my stuff and my wife.........my wife says, "Why isn't it displayed up here in the living room?" God, I'm the luckiest man.

One of the best things to come out last year. I bought it when it first came out at full price, I knew it would go to clearance after seeing it sit cold on shelves for months. No regrets paying full price.

I don't know if this counts, but I've been stealing all the knife accessories from all of @TheSameIdiot 's action figures. Only the knives. So every once in a while he'll be trying to pose some Crossbones or some guy on the shelf and be like 'wait... didn't this guy come with a knife?' Yeah, he did. He sure fuckin' did.

Those diecast releases are really nice and $200 is a good price.
