MONDO Masters of the Universe 1/12 and 1/6

Is it typical to show the same head twice in the same promo mock ups? I'm not used to companies portraying the same head like it's an additional accessory.

"Haven't ripped you off yet, no reason to complain."
...in a turnaround control art shown at a show and not for official release, yes...

Are you new to this?

And I think you're being purposefully obtuse to what I actually said, which was that you're not being ripped off if you haven't actually purchased anything. You are still under your own volition to deem it a worthy purchase or not.

Also, they are having a livestream tonight at 7 PM Central. They're advertising it as being about the Over the Garden Wall squad set, but I can't imagine they won't talk about these a bit too.

Hey, sorry, I misread. Or else they changed it. Either way, the livestream is scheduled for tomorrow, not tonight.

While these look “good” I think the price makes them a pretty easy pass for me (also that $125 doesn’t include tariff).

The articulation doesn’t look that exciting to me and while they do look nicer than Masterverse and I’m sure will have better paint… it’s not better enough for me to go all in on it.

Now I know times are different but someone pointed out to me the fact that Clawful is only $35-$40 less than a bunch of Mondo's BTAS and other 1/6 figures (Faker was $165).

It is crazy to think that a figure (roughly) half the size of a 12" figure is only a few dollars less. Now, again, I understand how the times are different now, but it still stings.

I was expecting these to be around $60, since they did say these would be cheaper than TRG, but yeah at $100 these are pretty much a pass. He man looks pretty weird honestly, the sculpt looks off, specially in the torso and head. I don't like how that sword looks either, but if these were $60 or less, it would be reasonable. But nope. Mondo just loves to overprice their stuff, and I kinda think it's just not worth it.

Also it looks like his upper torso is made of a soft pvc to allow hidden butterfly joints and that stuff is just not durable for this application, it's probably gonna end up tearing with time, like the max Hulk did.

Yeah, they usually spotlight multiple products. The last one was for Mr. Sinister, but they also talked about the Slash figure they were releasing. I kicked myself for not watching live because they usually do giveaways. One of the trivia questions for a free Slash I knew immediately, but the chat was slow to get it. I should have a free Slash, damnit!

I have a few of the 1/6 figures and generally I think the mondo articulation is pretty lackluster. It’s not awful but also not particularly great.

For 1/6 in my mind it’s more about presence than than being a “good toy” but my calculus changes a bit at smaller scales

I think I have damn near every He-Man toy from the beginning in the 80's to now. But I had to draw the line somewhere, and this line was it. These figures look cool. But between the price, and all the MOTU stuff I have, I just need to stop. How many times can I buy all the same characters. And I know I am sticking with Origins and Masterverse until they are done, so I am already collecting two modern MOTU lines right F'N now.

Enough is enough, then add in how much these two figures cost, it makes the decision easier. I mean, damn, Mondo want $300 for both figures after tax and shipping, right now, and we don't even get these until June 2026.

I give credit to Mondo for making some cool looking MOTU toys. But with all the He-Man that's already come out, and all the other MOTU/He-Man that is currently available, these figures at these prices are just an easy pass.

I just have to wonder with Mattel also doing 200x at a fraction of the price if a lot of people will just settle for those. They are still an upgrade on the original 200x line. If Mondo was the only game in town for these I might find a way but they are not. Same reason I buy anything Super 7, because they are the only ones making a property I am fond of.

DJC just put up what looks to be just the regular version of He-Man. 147.99 CAD, before shipping (I think their free shipping is over 150 CAD? I can't remember). Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck ooooooooooooooff.

Have to wonder if we will also see 200x in the Masterverse line.

Might wanna give that Maximum Hulk some actual....time? Less than 4 Months isn't time. Especially with soft plastic degradation. I have seen less visual evidence of that thing tearing than broken joints on other figures released in that window. Whether or not that soft overlay was needed or desirable, that is another matter.

Storm Collectibles has been using soft plastic overlays on their figures for years - do they have a reputation for degrading? I ask as I really have no experience with them prior to the Storm Arena stuff, but I've never seen complaints. A softer material is going to have less durability than a traditional hard plastic, but that doesn't mean it's inadequate. For the actual plastic to just crumble and crack, it should take an exceptionally long time if it's properly cared for, as in long enough that we mortals shouldn't have to care. This type of material isn't super common in toys, but I bet you can find stuff around your house made of something similar that are holding up just fine. And some toys have used it. The Bucky O'Hare Toad Croaker has a big, rubber, whoopie cushion-like mechanism made of a soft rubber and there's still plenty of those things hanging around more than 30 years later. And those had kids slamming them onto hard, plastic, action figures during play sessions.

Have not had one yet. And I have some of the first Mortal Kombat figures, which were released in 2015? 2016?

Still holding strong.
