X-Men '97

Yeah, got home from work today and started checking emails and I have all but Jubilee arriving tomorrow from Amazon.

Got Morph and Sunspot in today, and with as hot as it was outside, Sunspot definitely lived up to his name. Letting the plastic cool a bit before I rip these bad boys open. Got shipping notices for Cable, Emma, and Jubilee, due to arrive Monday, so since I skipped Logan for now, I'm all caught up.

*sigh* So much for Gyrich in my Avengers Mansion display this weekend. 😡

“We're encountering a delay in shipping your order. We'll send a confirmation as soon as it ships and communicate the expected delivery date. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Received wave three minus Jubilee. They’re a mixed bag.

Morph will replace the VHS version for sure, but his body sculpt is so odd. It’s more anime inspired, so it lacks typical comic style detail, but specifically, his pecs are really odd looking. The human face looks too young. The Gyrich head will find a body.

Sunspot is great. Not sure if there’s any reuse here, though parts are very reminiscent of Amazing Fantasy Spidey, just with cuffed boots, glove cuffs, and a belt. He has a great head sculpt, not too cartoony looking, but he has some huge chunks of hair that look very misplaced at the top of his head. Both flame effects are new, but only one seems to fit a fist. The other doesn’t seem to. It has a crescent shape attached to it that has the orbs I normally associate with Roberto’s powers.

Logan is fine. The claws on his right hand are misaligned, and won’t seem to correct easily due to the grooves in his knuckles guiding them awry. I think the head sculpt is reused from the previous Wolverine?

Cable got most of the work here. All new sculpt with reused hands from Bishop. He is big, and his color scheme is ugly. I don’t remember this much pea soup green on him. His future guns are big but light. He has two trigger hands but also a left open hand to support the larger rifle. Only gripe I have is that his eyebrows are black. I’d prefer white to match his hair.

Emma is nice, but tough to pose or stand thanks to the cape and heels. Sculpt is a beaut. Both heads are great looking. The hair is sculpted in anime chunks so I wouldn’t use either with a comic display. Doubt the existing Emma heads from other figures would match the skin tone. I do want another to turn into a Gen X headmistress. Would also swap out the hips.

Jubilee should be here Monday.

Sunspot's yellow is off. He's got a canary hue while everyone else is the typical X-Men yellow/gold. In the show his yellow is the same color as Jubilee's coat, so this is a super odd choice.

His hair does kind of look like he's got a bump it in - that's an odd choice to sculpt the crown curls separately. That could have easily been one sculpt. Maybe if they get pressed down further they'll stick out less - is it nice that even action figures with curls have curl problems? :)

The other effect slips onto his open palm and the bottom piece kinda holds it in place under his hand.

Cable and Morph slip seamlessly into my existing shelf replacing their placeholding counterparts. Emma got delayed (yay) but Jubilee is due to be delivered this afternoon - fingers crossed!!!

Jubilee arrived and has fallen down five times already. Even pinless, this body sucks.

Also, her outfit not being her default REALLY annoys me. It's just so unnecessary for them to choose the one - of TWO - that doesn't match.

I believe the intent was to bait the Final Fight completionism.

I bet you she gets a correct rerelease somehow, probably with glasses down option.

The costume choice is SOOOOOO annoying because the head is incredible but I'm not planning to go in on the "final fight" looks. Gotta cut off somewhere.

I'm going to give her baby Cable and just relive my vampire Jubilee Mama era.
I was completely checked out of x men at that time. I know jubilee had a baby but I don't know the story behind it. Is there a father or is he adopted? What happened to him? I'm reading Uncanny x men currently and baby is nowhere to be found.

I think she found him alone and adopted him, then she went with Betsy, Rogue, Gambit, Apocalypse and Rictor to some magic fantasy mirror world, where the baby turned into a dragon and could now talk. The kid decided that ultimately they were happier being a dragon than a baby so he decided to stay there when the mission was done.

That's the problems of both single mom'dom and vampirism that Jubes has managed to make a nifty escape from in the last couple of years, you go girl.

Just looks so much better!!

Yeah, the yellow really struck me when I took him out of the shipping box. He definitely isn't matching the Walgreens girls. Not sure what that's about. The fireballs don't do much for me, either. He really should have come with an alternate powered-up head and neck.

Back to the yellow — what are the odds we get other New Mutants in similar hues? It feels very remote, to me. Actually what are the odds we get them at all? As excited as I was for a New Mutant in costume, depowered and by himself, he's kinda lame.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to return him to Amazon and just stick with the Strong Guy BAF figure until something better comes along, if it ever does.

Yeah, like I said above, I'm not going in on the "final battle" figures and Sunspot's colors just look off regardless. I'm sure New Mutants are coming at some point, we'll get another crack at it.

I'm curious about Morph's yellows. Where as Sunspot's are too canary compared to the others, is Morph's too gold?
