General Marvel Legends

We Marvel Legends fans are known for being notoriously hard to please, yet the recently released figure we seem to be the happiest with is FF She-Hulk which may be one of the simplest figures they’ve released this year. I think there are some lessons to be learned here if Hasbro is paying attention.

1) You can get a lot of mileage out of a great head sculpt and body. (They do seem to get that one.)

2) Release characters/versions that have lasting appeal beyond one specific mini-series or story-arc.

3) Don’t lock those figures behind 2 packs and 3 packs.

4) Make those figures readily available to everyone.

5) If you adhere to 1-4, you don’t need gimmicks to sell figures

…or to put it another way…just go back to doing what got you here in the first place, Hasbro.
I mean release her again like this. Same body; new head. Soft rubber white onesie overlay. Classic Hulk card. She'll sell great.

Amazon has the Extremis/Mandarin set marked as a best seller. Who’s lying? I ordered the set, but didn’t expect anyone else to, based on the vocal dissatisfaction with design choices. Must be Amazon lying. Couldn’t be selling well! People are waiting for clearance prices!

The updated Extremis Iron Man alone makes this a must-have set for me.

I think it's fair to say that the 12 people here that said we weren't buying it weren't lying lol.

Worth remembering always that the terminally online set (us) are not necessarily the bulk of the actual paying audience. In fact, one thing I think happens due to being so online with our hobbies is we're clued into things the average buyer probably won't notice. As an example, I have a friend who also collects Marvel Legends, but has no presence in online toy spaces. He routinely has no clue which figures are rereleases, or which versions of characters have been done before, or what might be new parts in any given release. In fact most of his knowledge comes either from the waves he's picked up since he started collecting, or me obsessively sending him release news as it happens because I like talking about it with like minded weirdos.

But like, in a vacuum? If he were as big an IM fan as he is an X-Men fan? He'd grab this set no questions asked, and he wouldn't notice any of the things folks are upset about online. He'd hope for a different Mandarin eventually, probably, but that's about it. I think he's closer to the average buyer.

Also worth remembering that we have no real idea what "best seller" is measured by. Is it number of units purchased in first 24 hrs? Number sold total? Rate of sell through per hour? Is it just "10k sales total"?

Any of these could individually be happening (and I'm certain at least one or two is), or all of them could be. This is one of those situations where no lies actually have to be told.

Maximum Deadpool, with Doop.

Looks… fine? Just not sure it looks £/$50 fine…

Doop is the main thing tempting me. Annoyingly I had the Toybiz one, but ditched it years back in a fit of ‘I’m only getting a few, mainstream characters’ optimism. Foolish me from the past…

Pass. I’ve never cared for his Marvel Now costume. I’ll stick with the Deadpool from the Hydra Bob SDCC set

While the set looks good, I'm not sure I see a $50US value in it. Especially since I couldn't care less about Doop.
