DCAU/Batman Animated

Is the recent classic Batman from the Jonah Hex wave worth it? I've already got the old dc collectibles/direct versions (single release, batsignal with robin, batcycle, expressions, Phantasm 2 pack)

It is based on the Kenner Combat Belt Batman toy colors and uses the original body without the unsightly ab joints with some pre-existing bat-equipment in yellow. The only thing new are the colors, so if that interests you, then it is worth it.

I personally would have been more interested if they had actually included new combat belt accessories, but I needed the Hex part, so I ended up with it anyway.

I was hoping it would have accessories similar to the Combat Belt Better as that was my favourite Batman figure as a kid but it doesn't really do anything for me with wrong coloured accessories. Probably would keep it if the cape was wired though.

I would have actually kept up with the Batman toy color variants if they weren't chase figures, but as usual McFarlane makes it just not worth it.

At least in the Maxie Zeus wave the Lightning Strike Batman came with his silly gun (but not a glider-cape). I think the Gold one’s a little lazy but it’s at least more effort than the non-platinum “classic Batman.” I’m not sure that one’s much different than anything McFarlane’s put out except for the omission of the cel shading.

Have only found Ras from Jonah wave at Target, but they seemed to re-stock the Maxie wave recently (!?!). I need a Jonah, so hoping there are more in the pipeline as my Targets are bare otherwise.

Saw Ras, gray Croc and Gray Ghost at a local Target the other day and grabbed the Gray Ghost. I never had the chance to get the DCD version, so I'm happy to have a sturdier version from one of my fave episodes of the series.

The DCD version of Gray Ghost is plenty sturdy. Sadly DCD never lived down the impression that their Batman Animated figures were fragile after the QC issues of the first wave. However, the reality is that they addressed the problem early on and most of the releases were just fine.

I actually have a pretty good collection of the OG figures, including the Batcave, but GG is just one I never got when he was out the first time.

I'm sure he was fine, but at least with this one, it's potentially even less of a worry of breakage, but not unheard of, as my McFarlane Batman Beyond fell 2 feet onto a shag carpet and busted a foot off.

Knock on wood, I only ever had a single breakage with any of the OG figures (wave 1 Catwoman), and if I remember correctly, I think it happened years after I first got it. I actually had a few take a tumble off the shelf the other week onto wood floor, and they were all fine. There's always that fear, of course, but I've had more solidly built figures than them break much easier.

Once they stopped using that insanely brittle clear plastic at every joint I hardly had any problems with DC Direct. They’d become fairly sturdy by the time most of the BTAS stuff was coming out, although I think since those looked really fragile I was way more cautious when initially opening or moving them. Lots of boiling water for sure, but I never had breakage issues on BTAS compared to just about all their earlier releases. Still been buying most of the McFarlane rereleases though…probably 95% complete on both lines.

I’m still way more fond of the original line. Felt more premium all-around, but I’ll surely admit the joint pins and ball joints are way sturdier with Todd’s lighter-weight plastics. It was great that he got some of the tail-end of the original line rereleased since a lot of stores (at least around here) had just stopped ordering the line by then.

I have an original Gray Ghost and he’s probably the sturdiest figure of the ones I own. The limbs are all thick because of his suit. I don’t think an accurate Batman Beyond could be produced that isn’t somewhat more brittle than your average figure because of how thin the limbs are. I have the reissue and it’s been a set it and forget it figure for me.

i was very surprised to find a christmas joker on the shelves today. first time i ever found him in store.
