    Writing Advice

Maybe we need a writing advice thread. I'm a bit out of the loop on screenwriting since one the books started to sell I never had time to go back but I was on film sets every week basically from 25-35. My only caveat to Sanderson's writing advice it to always remember the STAGGERING privilege...

Cosmic Wish List - Just For Fun!

Not so much a wishlist but I finally got around to watching GOTG3 and all it really did for me is make me wish they'd re-do that old comics-accurate Guardians five-pack with modern articulation. In literally every way I like the comic designs of all these characters more than the movie ones and...

Grammarly was legit safe to use for authors til only like six months ago, too, maybe less. I think that's what annoys me - it getting forced in. Like, make it optional, see who pays for it, stop cramming it into everything, especially since usually it breaks a perfectly good product.

This is what happens when Classified thread regulars invade another thread. We break everything.

It sucks that Grammarly got in bed with AI earlier this year - they were a fine program but if they're feeding your work into someone else's algo you're almost better off just using the native spell check on whatever program you're using.

I think that's why I like it. The church has always been good at making monsters. Modern society loves nothing more than a redeemable monster. Those stories can be fun but I kinda wonder if we're in some kind of cultural psychosis about it. I mean I get sexy vampires, but I also didn't need to...

I'm waiting for a book-accurate version where Harker goes apeshit over discovering paprika, honestly.

He wrote three books on his own. Now he has a robot do it for him, I guess. He says "to check for inconsistencies and offer advice" but man, the last thing I want is a fucking robot telling me what's wrong with my book. Also Claude is BARELY functional as a spell check.

Missed this earlier - Dracula as romantic anti-hero or Jesus stand-in doesn't do it for me but I do like the "fuck your church, you want a monster, now you have one" angle some interpretations have.

I actually listened to the audiobook and then watched the Coppola version almost back to back and it's funny how Coppola took so much of it directly from the book but then HUGE key storytelling points he completely fabricated or misinterpreted. It's a very strange dichotomy the way some of it is...

    Generative AI

Just saw a blog post by an author who wrote his first book because he'd met me at a convention and was inspired talking about how he used AI for his last book, uses it as a teaching tool, and teaches his students how to use it. I mean, I appreciate the honesty in outing himself but that just...

    Mythological/Legends/Religious Figures combo thread

It's funny, my nephews are just starting to get into D&D and one of them asked if XYZ monster was real or not or if it was just from the game and I was like well funny thing, a lot of these things were creatures people really did believe were real for a long time because of myths... (They didn't...
