Yeah, my DCUC have a special place in my collection. Meanwhile, I keep debating about thinning down my 7-inch figures. Do I need so many DCD versions and McFarlane versions of the same character? I like them all, but bat-collecting has spiraled into insanity at this point. When I was a kid, it was possible to collect them all. Now every toy company makes some sort of Batman product, and my office isn't getting any bigger...
 
The DCUC era was at a time when it was not economically viable for me to be collecting toys, unfortunately, so I don't have any of those figures at all. I started getting back in heavy to collecting action figures around the tail-end of Multiverse/Essentials/Icons, so I have a handful of random DC characters in 1/12 and then Todd got the license so I figured, what the hell, start my main DC figure collection on the ground floor with MCF DC Multiverse.

I wasn't totally all-in from jump necessarily, I was also collecting the Spin Master stuff at the time, but eventually just focused only on MCF. So that is my main DC action figure collection now, and as much as I wish they would have made more of my personal favorites like Omega Men, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, more Legionnaires etc etc, I'm pretty happy with the 100+ figures in my collection.

Not gonna be double-dipping with the new Mattel line, but if they start making some of the teams that MCF never made or barely started, I'm not averse to having a separate display just for them, scale and style be damned. But it looks like McFarlane DC Multiverse will be my main forever DC collection from here on out.
 
While I was big into DCUC, the buck reuse became far too rampant that by the end, making the figures feel all too similar and rote to me (though to be fair, I also just lost all interest in DC for a few years and focused solely on Star Wars Black). I sold off all of my DCUC and have never regretted it (with the sole exception of the First Appearance Batman).

On the other hand, I intend to hang on to all my McFarlane once they lose the license and skip whatever Mattel does next year.

Will you feel differently if Mattel brings out some of the wild Absolute stuff that you've been asking for pretty early on in their run? With unique sculpts that won't really be able to be re-used much?

First of all, I have to preface this by saying that when I say “different” it can mean crazy variations of the main cast like Gotham by Gaslight Batman, or characters no one has seen in years. Captain Comet, Andrew Bennett, G.I. Robot and the like. So yeah, Absolutes might work.

But here’s the thing. Standard fare, to me, means Bronze Age. And it’s not just for toys and action figures. DC’s Bronze Age is approximately 1970-1987. And it’s apparently the most recognizable versions of DC’s pantheon. Fans, executives, advertisers, vendors, retailers, influencers, creators, media people and others seem to be stuck in this well worn groove. It just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. And it’s exactly where Mattel has to go to get this new line off the ground. I’m not remotely gonna argue that point.

I’m clearly in the minority here. That’s not likely to change anytime soon. And I’m not complaining, just venting. So while I might buy Super: At Earth’s End, or Red Rain Batman, or Kingdom Come Flash, it’s doubtful I’ll buy another blue on gray Batman with medium ears and a yellow oval.

So yeah, bring on the Absolutes. I’ll at least check ’em out.
 
Is it at all concerning that while many other toy companies are teasing and announcing new stuff leading up to Toy Fair, Todd hasn’t said much of anything about anything. DC related or not. So far all we know is something about QMx and Q-Figs. Whatever that is.

I know they said they had news post Toy Fair, but jeez, c’mon, show us something.

No. Only because we're still two days out. And something tells me Todd is really already kind of moving on. Sure, he may have some showings, but I think it's really winding down.
