McFarlane DC Multiverse

Got a Jessica Cruz from a local collectible store at regular price.

Love this figure. The headsculpt is good, the colors pop, and the body reuse isn't egregious.

Makes me want to get the Hal figure.

But Jessica Cruz should have been a regular release. No reason to make this hard to get.
 
Going off an interview about their new pickups some months ago, Jun said they wanted to go with the deeper cuts because the more recent cuts had already been made.

This tracks with how they might pivot on Street Fighter Alpha, as he mentioned the same thinking.
 
If $60 Spawn ends up on sale somewhere it's a sign that we wont need to pay full price for the lesser known characters from this Elite wave. Which is fine with me as I only briefly considered Spartan for purchase. Would be nice if he could get a traditional 90s Grifter and Zealot out the door before losing the license.
 
I didn't think I needed the PP Barry Allen Flash but by golly after seeing him at Gamestop I think I do. The paint job is light years better than the Flashpoint one. Just the improvement to the chest symbol alone makes me want him. It's a shame that right when McFarlane seems to be hitting their stride they are coming to an end. Definitely going to change my focus a little and start playing catch-up with Multiverse. Mattel is going to have to really, really impress me with their collector figures to get me to bite.

Shocker Toys was a total scam. He took money for MULTIPLE waves beyond the two he released to retail, came up with excuses like "the boat sank" and "Somali Pirates raided the ship" to keep people on the hook for as long as possible. He then changed the name of the company, pretended like it was a "brand new company" that "bought" the unproduced stuff from "Shocker Toys", then continued his grift for a while after that, taking even more money from people and never producing the figures. It was never a matter of it not "being profitable", as he made plenty of money by never producing the figures people paid for. Geoff is a total scumbag, and it should never be forgotten how he stole money from many, many collectors.

Jada is not your typical action figure company which puts out 5 to 9 waves a year. They will work on the wave until it's almost ready to release AND THEN let them go up for preorder so there isn't that long a wait. That means you get, maybe 2 waves a year if you're lucky. The release schedule is hell, but the quality from what I've gotten so far (SF, various cereal/food mascots and Scooby Doo wave 1) have been worth the wait.

That’s my memory of the whole thing. He also gobbled licenses from indie creators preventing someone else from possibly making the figures. Total piece of garbage.

DC is my spiritual home for comics. Love me some DC comics. And the figures it inspires. I’ve collected DCD, Mattel, and McFarlane. Constantly changing styles and scales. I don’t want to change again.

But there was a time when I had a deep fascination for the more mainstream independent comics. That has faded with the years. For the most part. I’d still like to read up on the entire Hellboy Universe. Invincible too.

But I’d really, really love to see someone make these figures. Essentially beginning with Sabre, the first commercial indie comic success story, all the way up to and including stuff like Powers, Astro City, Black Hammer, Ghost Machine and the rest. One manufacturer with a common scale, style, and articulation scheme.

I’m not going to pretend that it’s not complicated. Every creator has to have their own deal. But wow, would this be fun. Imagine Rick Grimes and Michonne meeting up with Marv and Dwight. Or Invincible meeting Samaritan. Mage, Grendel, Nexus, Aztec Ace, the Maxx, and so many more. In plastic glory. This is probably something only Todd would even attempt. Doubtful even he’s this crazy.
 
I also found that Super7 announcement on Invincible ironic after we were just talking about that property yesterday. It will be interesting to see what the come up with, but very much like Jada, the wait for these figures to hit is going to be long.
 
Pigs are flying - Walmart just delivered Zatanna. Saw her for local delivery last night and figured WTH - I can use another cancellation email. She ACTUALLY arrived!

Of course, she's got weird black marks on her head but I'm just shocked Walmart actually delivered.

Meanwhile, the one I ordered from Best Buy has gone from NY to NJ to to OH to IL to OK to AZ and now to CA. I get the storm hit it for a few days but that's nuts. Can't wait to see what shape it arrives in.
 
My EQL set of the 5 chase variants (Blackhawk, Cosmic Boy, Elongated Man, Professor Pyg, Zatanna) shipped today and is currently scheduled to arrive on Monday. I'd be shocked if it actually got here that quick.
 
Random question: which John Stewart figure is the best version of his modern comic costume? There's Rebirth and there's the Endless Winter BAF version, but both look so over-designed (per usual), and then I hate the texture on the Plastic Man BAF version.
 
I'm weird. The Plastic Man BAF one is my favorite. I don't mind the texture on it. I picked up Page Punchers Hal today and the two of them look great together IMHO. I didn't like either of the other two John Stewarts or original Hal Jordan as the arms seemed way to long to me.
 
Really finding I like the end of this line figures more than I want to, y'know? I opened Ice tonight and she has, man, I'd say a top five head sculpt for a McFarlane female figure and her sculpt is really nice. And on a whim I picked up Authority Superman (for some weird reason I just really liked his costume? Like, purely on vibes, just struck a chord) and he's very, very fun to pose. I suppose I won't regret picking him up since the likelihood of anyone ever making an Authority Superman ever again is pretty much zero, though.
