Action Force and Valaverse

I recently ordered the Praetorian Pyre (glow in the dark) and the Praetorian Wraith (Smokey translucent). I’ll post photos when I get them. I love the Praetorian figures in this line.

I keep wanting to pull the trigger on those two — the Praetorians are great — but with the Cosmic Legions preorder and now the Savage Crucible sale tomorrow, I'm trying to be a little bit responsible.

I was concerned they'd sell out quick but I seem to be ok waiting a little bit.

I might eventually grab one of the Fury's from BBTS. They're good fodder as Iron Man antagonists.

Definitely! All of the Praetorians are great for Iron Man villains. Or GI Joe or anything 1/12 scale. They are just cool looking robots with good range of motion and fun weapons.

Of the figures he's made, I think they're far and away the most interesting, with the Swarm dudes coming in a somewhat distant second. And I hope he keeps it up with them. Maybe a bigger assault praetorian or something. Make his own little demi-hulkbuster. Why not?

I'm sort of surprised, with all the variants of it so far (I think the praetorian has had more colorways now than any single character in the line) that he hasn't done a crimson one. Sanguine Praetorian or something. I'd say "give it gold accents" but that's probably a little too far.

The white glow in the dark Praetorian Pyre really reminds me of the glow in the dark Robocop figure I had as a kid. The colors are very similar.

I’d get Praetorians in a variety of colors. Red, silver, gold, blue. (I’m listing colors of the armors of the Elites from Halo). All would be cool.

I like a couple of the human figures just because they look kinda unique. But I unno about the look. I guess I've stated the leg thing. Alot of his stuff just looks a little odd from the waist down. But definitely like the guns. GI Joe's just seem more fun.

Yeah, no real argument from me. I don't really think the proportions look off, but the designs for Joe are better across the board. Pound for pound they look more interesting. I think the Praetorian is pretty good. Maybe better than the low end on Joe designs, but not as good as the high end. His basic soldiers are fine, but because they're gunning for more real-ish, and because of part use, they are fairly bland. The pilot figure for the upcoming Swarm vehicle is, for me, the right direction. Push the pseudo scifi angle and get weirder with designs. The knife guy and the Black are an attempt, but they don't feel like they go far enough.

That tracks for you as this site's number 1 (?) Iron Man fan I see why you dig them..

For me, they are my least favorite designs. I loved the Swarm drones... but I'm not a robot guy and regret buying the one Praetorian I bought.

This is the catch 22 of Action Force, I think. I was interested in it specifically for its more real world military aesthetic, but Bobby and I must've realized in real time how boring that can be after a certain amount of figures.

The Praetorians and the Swarm figures have to be his most popular, which could be a disappointment for someone who bet his career on the viability of mundane army dudes.

I think he did the mundane army dudes about as well as one can, but yeah, you sort of run out of road there fast, especially if you aren't going all the way into hyper-accuracy. Setting his characters in a world that is supposed to be distinct from ours allows him to get more mileage out of his troop base, but also means there comes an expectation all the sooner to branch into more fanciful designs. He had light theming from the jump, but it's time to branch out further.

And I mean, he clearly is branching. Even in the weapon packs, we're getting stuff like the AK from Elysium, Elon Musk's flamethrower (though they edited it in a way that would make it non-functional, whatever), and with the Praetorians guns that are (I think) total inventions. Kind of feel like the next year or so will see whether he can transition the line into something with a stronger identity.
