Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Eh, everything is a trope now. I don't even care, as long as it's fun. This looks fun. Even the tired Earth stuff. This is coming from the same company that made the Barbie movie. That worked. I have faith that this will too. We're all stuck in the real world. Who doesn't want to escape?

Watching frame by frame, excited to see glimpses Zoar, Sorceress, Goat Man, Spikor, Fisto, Trap Jaw, Evil Lyn, Beast Man. They don't seem to be skimping the character appearances.

I don't think the Fisto/MAA connection has ever been relevant in any way, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just ignored it entirely, or wink-nudged at it by having them be 'battle brothers' instead. Teela (in main continuity - who knows here) is the daughter or Sorceress and Duncan, so as long as Sorceress is white, it doesn't really require any explanation at all for why Teela is white (presenting).

My old boss adopted his wife's kids from a previous relationship. They are twins. One is clearly black (presenting) and one, at best, looks like a white dude with a bit of a tan. And they are literally twins. But even in real life that's something that kinda requires an explanation so if they wanted to do Fisto and Duncan as real brothers, they'd probably have to explain it even if it's just a quick one or two lines. Seems more likely they'll just drop that entire idea since, as I said above, it's never been even remotely relevant to the mythos anyway.

While I've long ago accepted the changes to the lore that the later comics and the animated series made, the original mini-comics will always be MY MOTU.

DO IT!!!!! Yeah, we're definitely in the minority, but....considering that the Masters of the Multiverse is an established thing, there is definitely room for the old-school, pre-cartoon MOTU to be explored further.

In pretty much every continuity, Teela is the adopted daughter of Duncan/Man-At-Arms.

In the original mini-comics, she was a clone Skeletor made from the Goddess/Sorceress when he siphoned off part of her magic. Skeletor made her with the intention of raising her to be an evil version of the Goddess, but was defeated by Man-At-Arms Since the Goddess had duties that prevented her from raising a child, Man-At-Arms agrees to raise her.

The original animated series had Man-At-Arms finding an infant Teela in Zoar's nest. She is revealed to be the daughter of the Sorceress, and just like in the mini-comic she is given to Duncan to raise.

She is similarly referenced as the daughter of the Sorceress, and adopted daughter of Man-At-Arms, in the various comics, 200x series, and Revelation/Revolution series.

It looks fine. Will likely be entertaining. Hoping it does well.

Obviously everything looks...fake. They obviously weren't going to paint an actual tiger green, so Battle Cat was never going to look photo realistic There's just too much happening on-screen for any of it to really stand out. My old-man rant is going to start regarding CGI. I feel like a lot of films just go for broke and think too big due to the relative cheap cost of CGI. It becomes overly ambitious when maybe if they dialed stuff down a bit and did a bit more practical effects, or even old-school miniatures and matte style paintings, the actual look and weight of things would feel more realistic. That said, this type of movie in this day and age was never going to do that.

Again, I hope it's good (director has good track record) and does well. I don't care about changing races of characters. And I don't care about them potentially changing Man At Arms and Fisto into brothers-in-arms as opposed to being actual brothers. But I never really cared about any of the MOTU lore, especially as it's kind of all over the place.

Ben Diskin did the voice for Skeletor in the kids' Netflix He-Man show and, actually, I love his voice. If he goes a tiny bit deeper, I would be all over this being a more serious movie-version of Skeletor's voice:

 
I thought that trailer looked incredible. As others have said, even the Earth stuff looked interesting and fun. And it makes sense Marlena sends him to her home planet to keep him safe. I wonder if Randor is captured or killed at the start of the film when Adam is young.

But Zoar, the sorceress herself, Evil Lynn, and all the characters you see looked great. I'm really excited about this, and I hope it's successful enough more are made. Could you imagine in this film or the next at the end credits Sorceress shows Adam the sword of protection, leading to a Secret of the Sword film with She-Ra and Etheria.

That will definitely piss people off. I enjoy this actor's comedy, but I don't know if the tone is appropriate. I loved Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3-37 in Solo, so this could work.

Most definitely.

However it will probably be the usual part of the fandom that shouts the loudest.

I guess it will also depend on when/how Roboto speaks. I don't know how much screen time there will be for Roboto outside of a possible sidekick/comic relief type character who gets one big scene in the movie.

Also Jay at Geek.Dad.Life did a watch through and did the whole scene-by-scene breakdown. It looks like there is a scene with a group walking through a tunnel or bay of some kind. You can see what looks like the head of a Battle Bones. He then zoomed in on the group and it looked like there might also be Mek-A-Nek and Ram Man in that scene along with a few others that aren't quite clear.

Anyway after watching the trailer my initial concerns with Roboto and Cringer still stand, but I am still willing to give it time and see how the final cut looks. Otherwise the movie is looking pretty good and should be fun. I only hope they don't get too silly with the jokes and winking at the audience (ala Thor: Love & Thunder).

It will probably come down to how much time they have to invest in the backstory of the different characters. I could see them go one of a few ways. Address it directly and move on. Make a joke about it and move on, or not address it all.
