General Marvel Legends

Hold your tongue! We need his designs from X-Treme X-Men!
Apologies, I'm talking mainly in reference to his Iron Man work, which is absolutely dreadful. I tend to keep out of X related conversations, as I'm basically done buying X-Men once the Astonishing Kitty and Colossus pack comes out.. You can have ALL the X-Treme X-Men you want!

I find it humorous that several social media influencers are claiming "no one asked for this" referring to Deluxe Grizzly, yet many of them are also the ones saying the BAF model should go away in favor of more Deluxe product.

If Grizzly is too obscure for a Deluxe product, yet they want BAFs gone, how are we supposed to get him and others in his particular predicament - oversize characters that are C-D listers at best, but wanted in the line like Orka, Griffin, Charlie-27, Rockslide, Anaconda, Korvac, Box, etc.?

Are 2-packs the only way, according to their logic?

This has worried me for a while. For example, I want several Spider-Man villains that would be perfect as BAFs, like Living Brain, Stegron, the second Spider-Slayer, and the Iguana, to name a few. But I worry that, with the BAF model on its last legs, will characters like that be deemed as not being popular enough to sell on their own? I hadn't considered that they could be done in a 2-pack with another character like Spider-Man himself, but with most of the characters I mentioned needing new sculpts, I can't see them getting a figure any time soon. We were lucky that Grizzly only required a new head and hands, the gold and money bag being a bonus.

Figures. Grizzly and MCU Cassandra Nova are the only 2 figures that have been announced so far this year that I'm actually excited for. Let me guess, they'd rather have a re-do or a new costume of a character that has already been made a half dozen times or more.

I look at this as basically the standard re-issue / repaint of a figure previously that had previously done as a BAF (like Strong Guy or Sauron), but at least they gave us a different head this time to represent a new character that hadn't already been made in the line.

I will continue to defend the BAF. I know that we've gotten characters by that route that we never would have gotten in a deluxe release. I love this line, but after 25 years all I still really care about are characters that have yet to be touched. I don't really ever need another re-do / update or different costume of any A or B lister that has already come out within the past decade.

I buy more than my share of repeats, but it's never my preference.

Its gross when people substitute their own wants for everyone's. I am vocal about what I want from the line (and its a lot) but I harbor no illusions that what I want is what EVERYONE wants - thats ridiculous..

This Deluxe - which is just a re-release of the Ursa Major baf with an extra head and some loot - is what they've been doing with baf's to get more bang for the buck for awhile now.

Frankly at this point I'd almost accept a Wendigo deluxe rerelease with an M'baku head and necklace packed in. That way they wouldn't have to advertise a Man Ape figure but I could get something close. It wouldn't have the loincloth... but I could figure it out.

So let the whiny YouTube man-babies whine, thats all they are good for, but their whining is irrelevant.

Excuse me, sir. Internet etiquette compels me to point out that you used the words "influencer" and "logic" in the same post. ;)

It's always a dumb stance, because how would they know?
I feel this way about a ton of the "no one wants this" "this will never sell" "why do they keep making peg warmers" etc etc commentary that gets thrown around. Surely the guys who have been doing this for decades and have access to a bunch of sales data and other information no one else does have a slightly better handle on things than some rando on the internet? Maybe?

If anything, Grizzly is the *best* use of the “new” BAF rerelease format: not just better heads and paint and a couple more accessories than the first release, but a whole new character *and also* a plussed-up rerelease. A true “yes, and”.

I never thought of that! I would want a rerelease of Wendigo with a Byrne-style head anyway, using the logic of the Grizzly release’s new parts, it doesn’t seem out of the question to release Wendigo with a Byrne head, then include M’Baku head, necklace and loincloth too. They aren’t advertising the Grizzly parts as being for Ursa Major specifically (outside of fan streams and such), no reason to have to advertise the M’Baku parts in print at all as being M’Baku parts specifically, they could totally jump over the name problem entirely.

IDC I want all of these:

I can’t honestly complain about any of those costumes.

I think my biggest issue with X-Treme X-Men is the “X-Treme” part: totally petty and personal, but the whole “EXTREME!!!!!!” thing in late-90s/early-2000s culture was very throw-up-in-the-mouth for me, so anything referencing that trend totally turned me off. I’d see that book on the racks and go “eewwww no” just based on the name. I do remember buying the old ToyBiz figure of Rogue with the sunglasses which was, I believe, an X-Treme costume, and I dug it.

Just “X-Treme” = maximum cringe to me.
