Micro Galaxy Squadron

Y'know, if it were 75 I'd snag it because I've been on the fence about the 44 dollar falcon on Amazon for months, and the sandspeeder would be cool, but seems like it's missing something to ask a hundred bucks for it.

I still hold out a mild, ancillary interest in this line and while doing some last minute shopping for gifts I saw that there was a seller with some of the Jedi Interceptors for under 10 bucks (Mace WIndu and Saesee Tinn). Figured for under ten bucks sure hey why not.

In perhaps the TINIEST of pleasant holiday surprises, I got Mace today and he came with a lil blind box vehicle - wasn't mentioned in the listing. So now I also have Tiny Din Djarin with a hover-gun-thing. I don't care about the hover gun thing but tiny Din is shockingly detailed.

Anyway, the ships are always really impressive for what they do. Wondering if Saesee will come with a blind box too or not.

So I've been on a tiny kick with this line, don't want to go crazy with it but just cherry picking stuff that's on deep discount, and I got irritated that I don't have a Leia (I got the version of the Falcon that came with everyone from ANH BUT Carrie!). Found a perhaps disreputable seller of solo figures from Galaxy Squadron, took a chance on a five dollar figure from China assuming it was a knockoff or a factory defect one.

Anyway, I get a notification from eBay at MIDNIGHT tonight that the package had been delivered. The TINIEST padded envelope was on my steps, in the dark, in the snow. But the figure was inside. I'm really curious what sketchy AF courier service they used. I feel like some random dude threw the envelope from his car onto my porch and drove off. Anyway, now the cast is complete, good enough for now.

Well they want the business, especially from the big companies like Amazon.

My wife ordered a couple things right before Christmas (she has a Prime membership) and Amazon delivered a couple of items at around 4:45am. So I guess the smaller courier companies are willing to do what needs to be done to keep the business. Even delivering a tiny envelope that no business could have made money on delivering all the way from China.

Yeah, it was the timing that got me. Like I could TOTALLY have waited til the next day or even next week for the envelope, no need for some poor guy to be driving around at midnight on a Wednesday to deliver a toy to my door. Felt bad for him.

I've had bbts Canadian shipping show up from small couriers after 10:30 on a Saturday twice in a row now.

I appreciate it. But yeah it's weird.

I don't know how it is up there, but I assume down here it's predatory delivery companies making it necessary for their drivers to work til midnight to make a living.

I wonder, though, are these like side-hustle couriers who work on their own schedule? And would their companies approve? What business would want someone delivering a package late at night or in the wee hours of the morning? Seems like the chances of theft would increase exponentially.

Or maybe that's a better idea? Porch pirates are probably focused on the daylight hours ...

I get everything delivered to my work address. Safer than my apartment building. I've had after-hour deliveries to my obviously-closed (big empty parking lot, roll door over entrances) business at the craziest hours. I just had to get a refund from Aliexpress (who use these last-leg delivery companies) because a driver left a package in our empty parking lot at 12:30 am on a Sunday night. Package was gone by the time we opened at 8am. They didn't even try to really hide it and left it against a short wall which borders the sidewalk, so any passerby would see it. There are places they could have put it, like under our company van which was in the parking lot. They took pictures of the delivery. If they have to hide it, just send me the pic. I've had delivery companies fail deliveries and attempt again in another day or two. I think that's far more acceptable. But I can only imagine delivering hundreds/thousands of things a day has to be a logistical nightmare.

Oh I don't think the company wants them working that late. They just want volume, and I know a lot of these places are taking advantage of couriers / delivery gig workers who will take any and every delivery just to keep a bit of money rolling in. If I get a delivery during peak porch pirate hours (really any time after 7 or 8 around here) I don't think the company wants it that way, they just don't give a shit, and the guy in the car is trying to squeeze another three or eight bucks out of his day.

I had to install camera AND a delivery box because of porch pirates (a delivery at midnight is not going to see that security box), so I'd rather wait a week for a delivery during the daylight, but we don't live in that reality anymore. Everything is exploitive.
