Mythological/Legends/Religious Figures combo thread

It's been a reallllllly long time since I did anything related to role play games, but I do remember Cain was the "first vampire" in Vampire: The Masquerade.

Dammit, now I want to run VtM.
I dated a girl in the mid-90s who was REALLY into it, so I got pulled in. It was fun...sometimes. Some people took it WAY too seriously though. It's odd, because I can remember quite a bit about my character, though I cannot remember his name to save my life! Being a guy with long blond hair at the time, people would usually assume I was cosplaying Lestat...which was okay since I actually DID sometimes do that, and much of what I wore when playing the game was just recycled from that costume. Anyway, after she dumped me I dropped out of that scene altogether.

Now I'm wondering if I still have my VtM Ankh necklace. It may actually be in a tote in my garage.

The drama I hear from friends into it is next level RPG drama.

I once heard someone's wife justified her sleeping around as roleplay.
Honestly, I attribute this more to "people who are excessively into vampires are excessively weird a lot of the time" versus it being specifically a VtM problem. I love my vampire-horny friends but TTRPG-adjacent or not, they make some hilariously bad life choices.

CAN CONFIRM.

Stuff like that is why I generally never grouped up with other vampire superfans, because I was definitely not about that life. I do remember one of my favorite nights in a “vampire club” a friend dragged me to in the late 1990s: a British reporter actually sat me down and started to interview me, definitely thinking he was gonna talk to someone who thought they were the “real thing.”

“So, are you a vampire?”

“Are you asking me if I am a reanimated corpse who rises from the grave to terrorize and prey upon my living family and neighbors? Nope, I’m not.”

“Oh. . . . well, uh, do you know any real vampires?”

“I know plenty folks in here who will say they are. Is that what you were looking for? They’re gonna be alive, though, and some of them drink blood recreationally but I guarantee you that none of them require it to sustain their cursed undead existence.”

“Ah. I see. Well. Thank you for your time.”

Ah good I'm not alone. I adore my weirdo vampire friends but also they are, damned near all of them, nucking futz.

I am *absolutely* nucking futz, especially when it comes to vampires, but I tend to keep the nucking futz of it all to myself. But I was always a solo-style Dracula insane vampire guy, as opposed to being interested in being in a “clan” or some Ricean drama-lama polycule. Just not as much fun to “pretend” with others, as opposed to living that Count Orlok life like I do.

As we continue to derail this poor thread - this is why on those rare occasions I got to play VtM I always favored Gangrels - if I could live forever the first thing I'd do is find a way to quietly fuck of from society and make sure nobody would bother following me. Drama? Nah, I want immortal power so I can have some PEACE

I can believe it. Last time I played it was around 1995 or 1996, so....it's been a while, but back then there was definitely drama. Fortunately, my girlfriend at the time wasn't AS into it as many where, so we were usually just on the outside looking in on that stuff...but there was some craziness for sure.

To pull it back to mythology, my wife and I are watching (and loving) Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and seven times an episode I am the Leo pointing at the TV meme regarding some weird Greek myth thing. My wife is so nice about it. Last week, she stood in the kitchen while I burbled on about how The Odyssey, The Aeneid, Elektra/The Orestes Saga are ALL sequels to The Iliad, from a certain point of view. She’s the best.

I've got to get around to watching that show. I was too old to get hooked on the books when they came out, but I was a kid who read Edith Hamilton's Mythology until the cover fell off in elementary school. I took Latin in HS and was thrilled that the Aeneid was assigned reading. Percy seems like a story I'd probably get into.

And now I am thinking about how we've never had a proper good Odysseus figure. Have we? Forget the gods, I want the messy 'heroes.'
