McFarlane DC Multiverse

I believe solid cases are only offered within the Collector’s Edition line. Could be wrong, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

I want this entire wave, but for the first time in a while, don’t want any of the Platinums. Although I still might grab Cosmic Boy or Blackhawk if I see one in the wild. Which is good. The next CE wave with Black Canary potentially has several Platinums I want.

It's weird to me that the Cosmic Boy costume they chose for the Platinum is the 90's reboot version and not the more iconic style, to match Lightning Lad. Oh well.

I really prefer the close-mouthed Detective Chimp. I'm already tired at the idea of trying to find her or paying triple for the one I want.

I'm kinda okay with either Cosmic boy, I just want the character in general.

Gotta be honest, I’m a LSH fan from the days of yore. Levitz Legion 1982-89 rules. What’s come after has been a slapdash mix of brilliant to the drizzling 💩. Including Levitz brief return.

But making action figures of the LSH is almost delusional. Too many characters. Too many versions of the characters. Too many Legions. Four or is it five at last count? Too many costume variants. And that’s just heroes. Add on the Substitute Legion, the Heroes of Lallor, and the Wanderers, you’ve got a hill you can’t possibly climb. Oh, and some villains too. And I’m not just talking about Todd. Mattel gave us a nice start with no follow up.

It’s almost better to just leave it alone.

I think I'm happy with just the O3. Definitely too big a cast to into figure form. Heroclix did a decent job but minis are so much easier to mass produce than action figures.

Fun fact, I got invited to write a superhero story for an anthology Levitz was the headliner. The cover was by Colleen Doran. I was under an NDA for two years and I was DESPERATE to say I was going to be in a book with Levitz and Doran. The editor was a HUGE LSH fan and couldn't believe he landed Levitz.

Very cool. But going down the Legion road, I’ma need a lot more than the founders. Personal faves include Mon-El (old school), Karate Kid, Timber Wolf, and others. Which is why I don’t wanna go down this particular path at all.

Yeah, if I start pulling on the string I unravel the sweater of disappointment. So many characters I'd want. I think I was so sure Todd would leave us with ONLY Lightning Lad that I've mentally settled on the founders. Not having so many favorites (TIMBER WOLF!) is frustrating.

That the platinum Cosmic Boy doesn't match the platinum Lightning Lad means I can safely give up on hunting down either. I'd say I'll wait for Mattel's take, but that's delusional. Maybe I can hypnotize someone at MAFEX.

Truth of it is that I’d settle for a good Clark/Superboy and be done with it. I mean we’re supposed to be getting a FA Kara/Supergirl. Is Clark an outrageous ask?

I'm a big Legion of Super-Heroes fan and I was lucky enough to get the vast majority of the desired cast from Mattel with some DC Direct mixed in. It's really the deeper cuts that I still want and I knew that McF was never going to get those and they wouldn't have scaled with my primary collection anyway. Hopefully I can eventually get some of those secondary / tertiary characters from Mattel again down the road.

I was never able to find the Platinum version of Lightning Lad, but ended up buying two of the regular release. The only 2 figures that I wanted from McFarlane that I never tracked down or paid the premium for on ebay were that Platinum Lightning Lad and the movie Bank Robber Joker. I've got all of the variants of the Bank Robber Joker and his game that Mattel did in their Movie Masters line though, so I didn't sweat it.

I GM'd the Heroclix Roleplayers Society for a few years (a kind of play by post story version of the game) and literally ANY opportunity I had I'd work in some Legion kids. Never been happy with the lack of presence for them in 1/12 scale figures.

If I’ve not said it before, I think this is a very strong Collectors Edition wave. A female, a villain, a Satellite JLA member, a character from outside mainstream continuity, and a GAer with a pedigree many people don’t remember. And a very popular tertiary character as a pack in. IMHO, this is what the collector waves need to look like.

Blackhawk in particular makes me smile. I’m a big fan of the first generation of comic characters and Blackhawk was a big seller in the 40’s. In terms of sales, he was in the top tier along with Superman, Captain Marvel, Batman, and Captain America. Routinely outselling all but Superman. And I gotta say that I was a little disappointed and a little relieved that Blackhawk didn’t come with multiple heads to build the team.
