G.I. Joe Classified One-A-Day Beamish-Style Figure Poll - #104 - Steel Raven (Extreme)

While it annoys me, from a story standpoint, to take the SAW Viper who gleefully mowed down a bunch of Joes and turn him into a significant character because story-wise I like that some nobody asshole who is utterly meaningless to the world or the battle killed a bunch of people in cold blood - there's a sort of meta-textual piece to that I love, a fuck-you to the bloodlust of the readers at the time - the design of Overkill in those pics is shockingly restrained and I think would translate to Classified really well.

Am I reading General Rey correctly that he's basically Good Guy Serpentor? I think he's a hard pass for me just because of that, though his design is generic enough I think he'd look okay in Classified.

(EDIT: My theme / bias - strong dislike of when new stories don't seem to know how to work with existing characters and so they try to reuse the themes of those older characters to make their own OCs and they're just not inspired.)

To be clear:
I love Cyborg Overkill, but I am not down with how Devil’s Due wrote the character. Overkill actually being a previous character is like Dracula turning out to be Judas Iscariot. Just let the character be the character.

I may be wrong, but I think initially he was just a new character when the toy was done. Still a BAT commander but now a cyborg rather than an advanced android prototype. I believe the comics added the SAW Viper connection? So there's precedent to have him not be that guy.

I guess so. I still haven't read the run but yeah seems like he really believed the Phoenix Guard were the new Joes, but not sure if he had some villainous tendencies himself. The clone thing throws me.

I'm definitely in for some of the guard, particularly that version of Firefly, but Rey's the least interesting part of the group.

Not only is it a Cobra Christmas, but we're starting the final week of our month of characters never done in Classified! On the first day of Christmas we've got Steel Raven, fiercely loyal and brutal interrogator!

Yup. Slightly trope-y, but it works.

Where does SKAR fall in the Cobra hierarchy? Splinter group, allied group, non-aligned but frequent partner, friends with benefits?
