Official Articulated Thoughts Good News Thread

Hilariously, this was part of my “bit” on Sunday. I overheard the host of the party referring to the plural of “Krampus” as “krampusi” before my big entrance, so
I made sure to correct him in front of the kids (“uhhh, the correct plural form is “krampussen” but I guess you don’t care; typical intolerance against my family.”), then I insisted I had an actual name and “Krampus” was the family name. I said my name was “Heinrich Krampus, but unless you are on the Naughty List you can call me Rick”. Then a kid raises a hand and says “Rick can I ask you a question?” And I was all “oooh not so fast, kid, I said you could call me Rick if you WEREN’T on the naughty list”.
HEHEHEHEH.
Nice! Damn.... is this gonna be a thing? Are you booking more appearances?

I mean . . . I do paid acting work pretty much constantly (yes, this was an actual hired job and I accepted payment), but as for actual Krampus repeats . . . we shall see. The kids did ask if I was coming back next year. 😁

But tonight I’m going to a concert at the Pantages in Hollywood with my theatre bosses and doing some lobbying for the upcoming auditions next month.
Manifesting Lord Archibald Craven and Reverend Shaw Moore . . . and maybe something else in the fall on the Big Stage. I’m hoping to do some drag if all goes well.

Can your services be hired to strike the fear of God into a young child or teen? Either to get them to behave better or just for fun? Asking for a friend.

Also, you better post some pics if/when you do drag. And tell us what amazing drag name you come up with.

Hahahaha that’s sometimes why parents bring their kids to me for therapy!

Ohhh it wouldn’t be an original character so much as playing a character in a show where said character is a woman but is traditionally played by a man.

The lead actress from the last feature film I directed before I moved over to novels reached out to ask me if I'd read her first script. I always worried if, because the film didn't make a ton of money, the folks who worked on it resented me, but she's checked in every so often for advice about writing and, well, life in general, and she's one of those people I'd like, get on a plane to go help if she was ever in trouble.

Anyway, I read her romantic comedy script to night, or rather a romantic dramedy which is exactly the kind of thing I directed her in twelve years ago, and she's written a beautiful little script with cleverness and hope and I'm really fucking proud of her. I wish I had the money and influence to help her produce it.

This is why I fight so hard to protect creatives with everything going on right now. There's nothing like opening up a file that your friend has poured their heart into and seeing they've written something beautiful. (I miss my film friends, but goddamn that's a hard life if you're not famous.)

I've bought my comics from a local family owned used book store since at least 1990. 90% of the reason I'm still reading new comics is to give them my business even with my dwindling pull list.

Anyway, I went in there today to get myself a Christmas present, the sweet sweet old ASM comic you see pictured. When I got to the register, the owner said he had a Christmas present for me and gave me this steam punk fairy statue for free.

I remember admiring this thing years ago....he had it behind the counter, not priced, he just got it in with a comic collection he bought. I never saw it for sale, it just lingered in a back room for years. He remembered I thought it was neat a few years ago and decided to give it to me. Cool!

I have no idea what it's called or what the value is. Not much showed up when I tried searching for it, but my wife likes her and asked where we should put her, so that's a win.

A kind gesture from good people running a good business.

Looks like a Pacific Giftware (PTC - Pacific Trading Company) piece. They have... just... a ridiculous amount of novelty statues (fairies, dragons, religious iconography, etc). Specific items come and go, and they don't seem to credit artists much unless it's a part of an actual artist's full line, so if you really care you'd have to do some detective work to figure anything else out. But it was probably in the 100 dollar range when it was new. I don't know if they hold, lose, or retain value once they're sold out. I imagine it depends.

Amazingly kind that the owner just gave it to you as a present. Like Doc said, it speaks to a personal connection from seeing you come in every week that you'll never get from an Amazon or a Walmart.

We talk a lot about how kids don't really like action figures anymore, which is pretty true, but my brother's oldest has, without even knowing that action figure photography exists, taken up action figure photography on his own, at age 10... and he's FUCKING GOOD. He's got a natural cinematographer's eye for camera angles and perspective. He is posing these cheap little 3D printed blank action figures in AMAZINGLY dynamic but natural poses. He's so good I"m just going to buy him some backdrops to mess with. All this while borrowing his dad's iPhone. And his dad is super proud of him which makes me even happier. (I bought HIM his first real, modern action figure in his adult life this year and he lost his mind, so... I"m encouraging this for both of them.)

Not news, per se, but just really happy to be back home this week for the holidays. Especially as my mom's health gets worse, I've been cherishing these moments as much as I can, however bittersweet they're becoming. I also got to spend some time with my uncle and his family- been really trying to reconnect with some estranged family members over the last few years, and it seems like he's the only one really reciprocating. But I got to hang out with him and my aunt's side of the family, and man, it was so nice feeling like part of a family again. Wasn't quite to the level of the high I've been chasing since I was a kid, but it felt pretty close for the short time I was there. Still hate that I kinda have to sneak off behind my direct family's back to do so, just to avoid any awkwardness and potential arguments, but it was worth it. It tapped into something I thought was all dried up and gone.
