Articulated Thoughts General Movie and Series News & Discussion

I see. I'm familiar with his story, I just never took it as struggling between violence and kindness.

But I get where you're coming from.

I mean Snake-Eyes once had to stab Scarlett through the chest to preserve her deep cover and save her life, because he loves her so much.

Caught between violence and kindness.

To start my vacation officially I watched the last Mission Impossible movie as I never caught it in theaters. The silliest one by far. A whole standard deviation sillier than the previous one (which was already the silliest at the time). If they do another it's going to have to go to space. There is no place left to go. It did not end in either of the ways I'd hoped. One would be Ethan Hunt's death wish is finally achieved as he makes the ultimate sacrifice for the world. Better yet, him becoming the Secretary and passing the torch completely to the new team, with Atwell as lead (since we decided to kill off Rebecca Ferguson for no good reason).

Tom, you're 63, you can be the guy in the chair now. You're the last movie star, at least try to let someone else take the reigns before the horse kicks you off. Or maybe that's just my engrams talking...

Never gonna happen.
Cruise will slam the movie-star door closed on his way out. Then nail it shut. Then light it on fire.

Trailer dropped for Nolan's The Odyssey today. I am actually less excited about it than I was.

I dunno, it just looks so typical. It looks dark (not thematically, but just another movie where they looked like they filmed everything in a fucking closet). The material culture (this is a TRAILER so I don't want to hear any bullshit about how it's not reflective of the final product) looks like trash made of plastic. And why the fuck is the OPENING scene some kind of ancient Greek Batman? HORRIBLE costuming.

The cast is terrific, though. Hard to tell if the story is going to be any good. There's a lot of directions they could go with this story. I'm hoping it's full on mythology and not something more in the vein of The Norseman or The Green Knight where the fantastical elements are extremely rare and maybe metaphorical. Final judgement reserved for either seeing the movie or at least seeing reviews. But it really doesn't look promising.

I like the Odyssey a lot. But as of right now, the only half-decent adaptation of it I've ever seen was the one with Armand Assante as Odysseus. Definitely a product of its time and I'm pretty sure it was a made-for-TV movie, but a lot is excusable because of that.
