CREATIVE BEAST STUDIOS Beasts of the Meso/Ceno/Cyberzoic

I believe the blue one on the blonde sabertooth was a Kickstarter exclusive bundle, yeah.
Indeed she is. You can get the same overall offering with Dragolina and her regular-release green-armored Smiley; but this particular set was KS-only.

I got my Dragolina, Fire Guard, Argenteus, and this set Friday - no shipping notice that I ever saw come across my phone - and opened one per day so far. Argy's up after I shovel breakfast down my gullet.

The Carno is Hammond, not BotM.

I am absolutely *loving* how this Fire Guard dude is so obviously Native American/Latino. Most times we get such characters as just a white guy painted with a tan; but this head looks deliberately NA/L to me. YES, MORE AUTHENTICITY TO THE ACTUAL HUMAN SPECIES IN MY TOY COLLECTION, PLEASE.

I'm very happy with these two quality-wise; and any changes I'd suggest would be to *ease* up on the tolerances of a few things like the knees being super-stiff to bend even after cracking them, and the head's neck socket being a bit too narrow for easy head-yanking. I'll be shaving out all the neckholes at least another 1mm wider.

The other suggestions would be clothing-design stuff like how the FireGuard's thigh armor bumps against the side-skirts (but you can see that's only after a very wide stance) and how his t-shirt sleeves need to come all the way down the shoulder joint so there's not that ugly break in the armpit when the paint goes off alignment when posing.

Also, Dragolina wouldn't wear pants that specifically leave her inner thighs bare when riding critters. This issue is especially galling when the thigh swivel breaks across her skin like ye olde Suicide Duke, causing ugly breaks in the skin like the armpits I mention above. I might paint her a black bodysuit under there.

So some of my stuff arrived today (no shipping notice or anything so I had no idea) and I'm confused. I got my Deinonychus, but not the armor or the human handler to go with it. Anyone that's been keeping up with the updates please advise: is this expected or do I need to send an email?
Also got the KS exclusive set.

Haven't opened anything yet but I expect I will tonight. The exclusive set box is WAY bigger than I expected. And even though I'm absolutely going to throw the packaging away, I love that it has the flip-up window. Feels very nostalgic, which is appropriate for the set.

The first set of figures released (A1) included Kuraokami (ice dragon), Smilodon, Allosaurus, and Achillobator.
The 2nd, just released, set included the A2 wave (the armors and riders for the A1 dinos), the exclusive Smilodon set, and the B1 dinos: Dryptosaurus, Utahraptor, Dilophosaurus (and upgrade parts), and Deinonychus.
The final set will include the B2 wave armor and riders, and the C wave.

The Kickstarter All-In is huge.
1.5 waves with 1.5 waves to go.

I don’t care what anyone says or thinks, Allosaurus Jimmandseni is getting top marks from me and is a strong contender for FOTY this year. Despite the fact that I purchased the Hot Toys Batman 89 and Batman Returns figures this year, despite the fact that the X-Men 97 Sentinel might possibly ship before the end of the year, and even despite the Marvel Legends gamerverse offerings turned out so good this year…I am beyond elated that we finally get this Allosaurus. It’s my favorite carnivorous dinosaurs but hasn’t had much good representation

So I've sat with these since I opened them up last night and I'd say I'm... whelmed? Yeah. Like precisely just whelmed. For all the POA that the smilodon has (and the deinonychus, really), I don't feel like they can do very much? In the smilodon's case that's especially true with all the armour in place, which definitely gets in the way. Not saying I want them to cut articulation. Just not wildly impressed with what they can do even with it. I'm sure part of that is just the shape of the animal, so I'm not necessarily blaming CBS for that.
Again speaking especially about when the armor is in place, I don't see a lot of alternate poses I can do beyond standing and kind of walking. I tried to do a 'rounding' pose, I guess you'd call it, where it's twisting to the side. But you can't get a lot of range that way and going too far also pops the absolutely shitty saddle belly strap off (same problem with the BFS horses - the strap is too tight and the pegs are insanely hard to get in place, so it barely holds on).

Actually, just in general, I really think it would be great if they could pre-use the tab spots or something. Some of them just do not seem to want to connect. I had a hell of a time with the side plates for the smilodon's helmet as well. Maybe not a reasonable/realistic desire, but goddamn I fucking hate tabbing this shit together.

That being said... it LOOKS amazing all put together. I'm just.. whelmed.. by what I'm able to do with it. I want to say maybe I'll feel differently after I mess with it some more, but realistically the armour is so finicky I don't know if I -will- mess with it very much now that it's on the shelf.

The human figure that came in the set I'm also whelmed by. It's mostly fine. I don't love the accessory choices - a bunch of short blades for a rider character doesn't make tons of sense, but I knew that going in. I REALLY don't like that there's no swivel below the knee and that, for some reason, she's sculpted to be duck-footed, so her feet aren't in line with her kneecaps, but point outward. This is seriously exacerbated whenever she's posed riding the smilodon, as there's no way to get the feet inward toward the animal. Doesn't seem well-considered.

The two-pack is still a really cool set and I do like it. I just wish that I loved it. If that makes sense.
I'm withholding judgment on the deinonychus because I don't really care about it on its own. I specifically wanted it as an armoured little attack dino. Without the armour and handler, I don't think I'd be judging it fairly beyond saying I don't really know what the fuck to do with all the extra feet, and the stand kind of sucks.

Yeah, I like them, but I wanted to like them more than I do.
The other armor sets are even more fidgety. I think some of the designs were just a little too ambitious.
The creatures all look incredible, though. Ultimately, still very happy to have backed the Kickstarter.

My saber tooth head armor came with two right sides. Contacted customer service last night and already have a replacement part on the way. Really great customer service.

"Whelmed" definitely fits my feelings on the Smiley.
The lack of any real movement out of the Sabertooth was my major complaint when I got it a few months ago. I know comparing it to Zabu isn't an apples to apples thing, but HIS articulation is a lot more useful than the cat from this line.

Yikes. That is saying a lot since Zabu can hardly move at all. Will I hope some of you guys backed the Allo because that figure is incredible
