General Marvel Legends

So... I can't take the comments about the Starjammers seriously Why even do Ch'od and Corsair if you don't plan to do the rest of the team? It's ludicrous. And the idea that they are too expensive is nonsense. They do plenty of figures that require new tooling, so it can't really be that.

I do hope its just misdirection.
My theory, if this is the reasoning, is because those were also toy biz nostalgia throwbacks to the '90s line.

But we also had Raza back then so...

Yeah, I mean - to the point of not being able to take the team seriously all the time, or whatever; hasn't that always been the way? I've NEVER taken anything any team in the toy world says as gospel. They all lie/misdirect as part of their jobs. And, as pointed out above, they have openly told us they lie and misdirect because they can't just be like 'oh, you got me, we weren't going to announce it but since you said the name of the character we are legally obligated to tell you when that figure is coming out.'

Frankly, I think it's important to tell them what we want and would like to see. But framing it as 'is this item coming out' is almost always a waste of time.

This is ultimately my complaint about team completion. I'd be annoyed if they never did the New Mutants for instance, but doing the Dani+ pack 6 years ago with apparently no plan to get the rest out is more annoying really. What other mainstream line with 10+ years does this?

As noted, they made the choice to start these teams.

To be -entirely- fair... how many mainstream lines with 10+ years even exist?

Mattel WWE is a terrible comparison because of rights issues coming and going so it's hard to peg down what they should have or could have done, but there's always people in there that everyone feels are 'missing.' They did DX years before they even knew if they'd be able to do Chyna, for example. They did Brood versions of Edge and Christian but never did Gangrel. Etc etc.

Star Wars is also a totally different beast. There's really no 'teams.' But there's definitely been characters it seems to have taken way too long to get out there. Quinlan is JUST being shown off now after all these years. I still don't think there's been a Lobot or Nien Nunb in Black Series yet - both often considered essential side characters for the OT collection.

Not defending Hasbro pulling some bullshit. I just think it's the same bullshit we get from every company.

I was typing it right as you posted.

The other thing too, 10yrs is more than enough time for conflicting initiatives to come down from Hasbro C-suite level. While this isn't a blanket get out of jail free card, that sort of thing definitely happens (and you can see it in technicolor places like the Sigil VTT for D&D), and we'll never know really when it's that vs an oversight, or production difficulties, or simple fuck ups.

Yep, 100% this.

This too.

It can come down to something as simple as "the bosses say we can never make X character, but CAN make Y and Z characters - do we make 2/3 of a team, or none of the team?" And maybe that mandate changes later and you get X character seven years later. Or maybe never. Who knows.

Is that a defense or an indictment? Most lines that don't complete teams do so because the line gets cancelled before they get to it.

They have produced 1,000+ figures - even with a property as vast as Marvel they have had plenty of opportunity to not have as many teams left dangling. Some, I get, but not so many at one time...

Neither? Both?
I don't know if they get cancelled before they get to it, or just they were never going to get to it. DCUC also wasn't in any hurry to complete most teams it started. We can argue they would have, eventually, but how long is eventually - and how long is okay before it's not worth even using as a defense?

The one thing I can say is that I've known enough people in that world well enough to know that their brains operate on a different time scale. It takes so long to do this stuff. I'd hazard to guess that the person responsible at Hasbro for early development of MLs is currently working on 2028's line-up. 2026 is already at the factory on some level, and 2027 is already at sculpting stage. I can see how that would make it hard to be steady with releases or sympathize with people that want to complete a team 'now.' To some of those guys, they JUST started that team. Even though for us that was 3 years ago. If that makes sense.

No argument from me. But opportunity isn't a requirement. WE have proven to them that they don't need to complete teams, because we keep buying those figures anyway. And if we don't, that's used as evidence that no one wants that team. It's a lose-lose scenario for us, and a win-win for them.

Boog's nycc interview ended with Dwight saying Asgardian men, even Sif and Angela, would not be basic releases in today's line.

"We're happy to take a look at it."

He even calls out he wants Baldur.

For sure. It's really setting them up for failure to directly ask if something is coming, then get mad at the non-answer. I agree that it's great to have our wishlists delivered, and I don't even care if people put them on the spot by phrasing it as a question - it's just annoying when people act all bent out of shape when the answer isn't straightforward.

Honestly, this is not bad news to me - with the massive caveat that what we get for that non-basic pricing looks more like last year's Odin, and less like the Sif and Angela figures we already have. We should be so lucky that they put as much love into Balder and the Warriors Three as they did Odin.

True, I guess I just need to adjust my expectations. But it’s admittedly frustrating when the part of Marvel I like has to be treated like a special event, meanwhile Spider- and X-stuff flows like an abundance of water.

For sure. I've been happy with my deluxes and Maximums.

I get it. It’s absolutely mad to me that we made it through four Thor movies and never got comic figures of the basic cast of Asgardians. The silver lining is that WHEN the rest of them come they’ll be much, much better figures than they would have been 6 years ago. I’ll be needing a new Sif and classic Loki to go along with the Balder, Heimdall, Warriors Three, Kurse, and Mangog (at a minimum) that we need to see.
