What are you listening to?

I still always buy CDs of artists I like. I can't give up physical media. I did stop buying vinyl for the most part because I don't listen to it. CDs get loaded into my PC and then added to my phone. I have yet to subscribe to any streaming platforms. I'm sure I'd love them if I did, but their payouts towards artists are so terrible that I don't want to get sucked in and find myself no longer buying the physical copies.

After seeing them perform last year in support of Kamelot, I've really gotten into Seven Spires. Just a crazy talented metal band in all facets and they dropped a new video today. The song is from their newest album released last year and I actually haven't watch it yet. My daughter is a big fan of the band's vocalist, Adrienne Cowan (even went as her for Halloween last year) so I'm waiting for her to get home from school before I watch it:

I absolutely love both Kamelot and Seven Spires. If pressed, I think I'd say I liked the Roy Khan era of Kamelot best, but Mark and Tommy are both great as well. A Fortress Called Home (from 2024) is a great album.

I got rid of all my physical media for music a long time ago, since I was almost entirely listening to music on an MP3 player at work back then. Ironically, my daughter would become a bit of audiophile two or three years after I got rid of all my CDs and she has essentially recollected 80 percent or so of what I had already owned.
She loves most of the same music as me and having to spend hundreds of dollars buying stuff I literally JUST got rid of has been endlessly frustrating but also it's wonderful to watch her embrace the same music as me so thoroughly.

Been fluctuating between a couple things recently-

Lady Gaga's new album Mayhem is a banger, and been on repeat for a month now. Love the variety of styles- rock, pop, funk, dance, etc. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea, but you can't deny that she's one of the most talented artists in the business. This may very well be my favorite album of hers.

Other staples have been Twenty One Pilots and Gorillaz. Being a nerd like I am, I love anything with good lore, and the fact that there's bands out there with deep, rich storylines is a major plus for me. I absolutely loved TOP's Clancy when it was released last year. It's pretty neck and neck with Trench for my favorite album of theirs, just depends on the day of the week, really.

As far as Gorillaz is concerned, Demon Days was the first album I really asked for due to how much I loved Feel Good Inc., and as a whole, I'd still put it as the album that changed what music was to me. I really enjoyed Cracker Island, and I'm enjoying the retrospective they're doing now for their 25th anniversary. Just picked up the Demon Days Live vinyl for the collection. I'm not really a vinyl collector, but my boyfriend is, and he's gotten me into them. I can't get them all just for space and money's sake, so I've limited myself to only my favorite artists for now- mostly Gorillaz and TOP, if only to support independent artists (I know they're not entirely independent, but they both do a lot of things themselves)

And of course, Chappell Roan. Still really loving her, and excited for the new album coming up.

I have my Nostalgia playlist going as well- mostly 90's and early 00's music that I grew up with- it's currently a little over 47 hours long, and it's my go-to for listening while I exercise or go on walks.

I think I still prefer the Khan era of Kamelot as well, but I honestly don't think it has anything to do with Tommy. I remain forever bummed that the only time I saw Khan perform with Kamelot it was in this shitty, tiny, venue in Cambridge, MA where the audio engineer just could not get the levels right. Edguy, who opened, had no problem with their guy so I don't know what was up with Kamelot. Basically couldn't hear any vocals and Roy was begging, politely, in between every song for them to get the levels right. Oh well.

My daughter, who is only 8, is really into a lot of the stuff I listen to. Especially Spires. She dressed up as Adrienne for Halloween and is now doing her second grade biography project on her. I signed up for Adrienne's Patreon and she has been super sweet to my kid giving her advice on her costume, praise, encouragement, and recently fielding some questions for said biography project. A great vocalist and person.

I went to a Type O Negative concert once in Rhode Island that had some of the worst audio engineering ever. The venue was just too small for how everything was set up - half of what you could hear was just backfeed. Like, it was so bad that the ONLY song people sang along with was Black Number 1, because you couldn't fucking HEAR anything. Probably permanently damaged my hearing (first time of many in my life) and got nothing from it except the worst version of Black No. 1 I've ever heard.

So awesome about your daughter. I'm planning on trying to make time to take my daughter to a few smaller rock/metal shows this year and I'm hoping we can chat up some of the metal ladies out there. My daughter is learning guitar and I'd love for someone to take the time to give her some encouragement that actually knows what's up and that she'll listen to. Hopefully we can find someone as cool as Adrienne.

I haven’t been to Riot Fest since 2016, but this lineup is really tempting me.

I've never been to Riot Fest, but I thought the same. I haven't been tempted to go to a music festival in over a decade.

Blink, Green Day, AK3, Jawbreaker, Bad Religion, The Pogues, The Front Bottoms, The Wonder Years, The Bouncing Souls, Free Throw, Touche Amore, H20, and about 10 other bands I know a few songs from? What a lineup. I fucking love Chicago, too.

Absolutely, @TheSameIdiot. Just a few of those bands alone are worth the price of admission. I'd most be into Green Day, Jawbreaker, Bad Religion, The Bouncing Souls, Alkaline Trio, Stiff Little Fingers and Screeching Weasel...I think I'm talking myself into going.

Type-O is my favorite band. My first concert to see them went almost as bad as yours. At mine, I was there for 6+ plus hours in the desert heat waiting for them to headline, But the Deftones caused a riot. The most I saw of Type-O that day was Peter Steele walking on the stage in the bedlam doing the Travolta pulp fiction meme.
The only satisfaction I got from that was that Type-O tracked them down later at a bar and slapped them around. I would kill for some video of that.

I saw them a few times after that. The sound was really only good for one or 2 of them, but not as bad as yours sounded. If you still are into Type-O, you should check out Denis Pauna on youtube. He does an incredible job of creating Cover songs as if Type-O did them (other bands too) - His Peter Steele is impression is very effective.

I recently discovered Mother's Finest. I'm so mad I never heard of this band until I heard the gang from Sea Of Tranquility raving about them. I like Funk and I like Hard Rock, so finding out this excellent band has been around since the early '70s (like me ;)) I feel I really missed out all these years. They are really all over musically after their 3rd & 4th (released) albums of the above genre putting out 1st an R & B record, then a Metal album--which are also great on their own merits. But those 2 Hard Funk Rock albums hit the sweet spot for me and represent how they've played live the entirety of their career to this day. What's funny is they didn't change their setlist whether they were opening for The Commadores or Black Sabbath.

They have 2 singers and solid musicians (the guitarist has some killer riffs/solos and the bass player is called Wyzard for a reason), but the star of the band is undoubtedly singer Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy. Imagine Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin belting out Hard Rock/Metal. She's amazing!

Currently their most popular song on YT and from 1 of the early albums:

Their biggest (only?) hit from their R & B record. I was surprised I knew this one; not from their original version, but from all the covers I've heard:

My favorite track from the Metal album:

Didn't include any of their live stuff, but that's where they really shine. Every performance I've seen or heard has been great.

Awesome! Listening to it now. Her voice also reminds me of Gloria Jones, the singer of the original Tainted Love:

Headed up to Grand Rapids in about an hour to see Shinedown. This will be my third time seeing them. Openers are Beartooth (very heavy) and Morgan Wade - a female country singer. I gave both a couple song listen during lunch. Not sure either will ever make my playlist, but that's fine. I'm there for the main course.

Oh, and I like all the music suggestions here. I'll give them a listen.
