These file folder designs are great, Ru!
For real! Looking at my shelf... nah, I'm not gonna count 'em. it's more than one you've swayed me on, we'll leave it at that. To be fair, it's usually "I kinda want this..." "Oh, you've GOT to get it!"I'm just here to sell you on buying new figures![]()
Led by former colonel [...], aka Jötunn, The Tungsten Corps (often cited as “The Tungsten Core”, or simply “The Core”), are new players on the global stage, popularly known as the world's only “moral mercenaries”. Their public motto “We don’t take jobs, we take sides,” belies the group's deep personal convictions, convictions that prompted them to retire their former commissions as highly trained special forces operatives to become freelancers with far more autonomy in both who they fought, and for what reasons. With a stunning debut in the formerly totalitarian micro-kingdom of Zanziba, the Corps demonstrated their now trademark specialty: hard target penetration and decapitation operations.
At midnight on November the 12th, the Corps managed to simultaneously penetrate both the Zanziba high command military installation at port Kala as well as the king’s Juggernaut Fortress in the city of Palace (locally known as “The Boil” and “The Tick” respectively). Within an hour a dozen military commanders, the four executive cabinet ministers, and King Bosche were taken out of play with minimal collateral damage. The next morning Zanziba woke up to a country not ruled by monarchs and elites, but ruled by the people.
When the people asked what compensation the Core demanded for this service, they responded “nothing, just happy to help” and proceeded to prep their forces for return to the United States where they expected to be promptly court-martialed for dereliction of duty, causing an international incident, and theft/misuse of military equipment (among dozens of other charges). The New People’s Republic of Zanziba (NPRZ) felt compelled to offer an alternative. With a mere fraction of the treasure being redistributed back to the citizenry, a new private military company was formed, and the balance of power in the world shifted ever so slightly. Now operating out of a small flotilla of highly customized private yachts typically located off the coast of Zanziba, the Tungsten Corps, though growing, still numbers less than 100 members. Despite this, their skillsets and battlefield experience make them a dangerous outlier on the global stage. Their base of operations is a matter of necessity rather than allegiance, as the Core are now fugitives from the United States (though they did arrange for the return of most of their old gear, as they felt continued use of US branded hardware in their operations sent the wrong message and encouraged US retaliation). This status is not improved by the fact that by their very existence the Core is continually poaching talent from special forces the world over. The Core’s newfound reputation means it doesn’t have to advertise to get recruits, they simply show up and ask to join. Career military professionals are now abandoning their posts not for a nation, but for a cause.
Though obviously friendly with the country of Zanziba, The Core asserts that they are an independent organization, not aligned with, nor serving at the direction of the NPRZ. According to them, The Core is done with national allegiances. If they are to be believed, they simply work for “the people”. Though it is not known precisely how the Core chooses their missions, what is known are the methods they employ and their targets of preference. The Core excels at removing wealthy, entrenched, authoritarian leaders in small nations that the global North deems not strategic enough to concern itself with. They favor night raids and amphibious landings or HALO drops, often in combination. Though they do not maintain a significant fleet of vehicles, the few formerly civilian craft the Core have are extensively and creatively modified by the Core’s genius mechanic “Thesius” to match their new mission profiles. These craft are further enhanced by weapons and hardware "acquired" during successful missions.
Once an operation is complete, the Core never demands payment, though invariably their patrons offer one, typically seized from the coffers of those who can now no longer hoard their ill-gotten gains. Given this, their small operation is surprisingly well funded for as few missions as they are able to take on.
Though so far unconfirmed, rumor has it that the Core is branching out into operations directed at international criminal syndicates, picking small cartels in the global South and obliterating their command structure in a matter of hours or days. There is no question that *someone* is clipping the wings of these various criminal groups, and the MO for these operations does match the Core’s forte, but so far they have not officially taken credit. Whether this is because they aren’t responsible, or because they want to limit the number of enemies they are accruing is a matter of speculation.
The spectre of the Core’s former commanders loom large over the organization, and it is seen as an inevitability that at some point the US will opt to remove its former operatives from the board before they start a conflict large enough to cause real embarrassment. It seems likely when that happens, the ones sent to put the Core down will be former comrades, members of a unit called G. I. Joe.
