McFarlane DC Multiverse

Some would say that I’m an apologist for Todd. Sometimes I might agree. I do enjoy the product, in spite of the philosophy and the delivery system behind it often being dated and out of touch. On the other side of that, Todd’s social media and marketing team are some of the best I’ve seen. I don’t believe I’ve ever enjoyed collecting more than I am right now. In 2009, I bought 49 DCUC figures from Mattel. This year, I’ve bought 59 Multiverse figures from Todd so far with three months left in the year. I’ve got 10 figures on preorder with another dozen on deck. And that is before what is traditionally Todd’s biggest show of the year in terms of DC figures. NYCC.

But this has been a rough week. We knew that Dr. Mid-Nite/Pieter Cross would be a Platinum. We knew Jack Knight/Starman would be a Red Platinum. But I wasn’t expecting Guardian, Cheetah, and Extant to all be Red Platinums. This is the stuff that animates my collecting drive. These are the characters that get me stoked. And now I have to hunt. Not really enjoyable at this point. One doesn’t generally bother me. Four is a serious pain in the @$$. And with no evidence whatsoever, I’m positive the new Red Tornado will have a Platinum. The FA of the SA Red Tornado in his red and purple costume from when he was a JSA member. Because Todd.

Whew. Just venting. I needed to get that out. Thanks.

Everytime they repaint one of those hyper detailed McF sculpts into animated colors, I just can’t help loving it.
That Bane looks so sweet.
I find myself drawn to it, even though I hate that he is so oversized. I know some prefer their Bane to be ten feet tall, but I prefer him to just be a big dude. Still, that paint scheme really pops!
Can’t believe I’m saying this but I like the Jokerized Superman and the Future State Superman repaint. I usually hate that stuff.
I DETEST Todd's Jokerized stuff, but I agree with you on this one. Maybe it's because this is the first one based on an actual story from the comics that it appeals to me somewhat? I don't think I'll wind up buying him, but it is tempting.

Week of NYCC update:

Preorders:

10/9-10/25 Wal Mart Collector Con with several McFarlane items.

10/9/25 Item unknown.

10/10/25 Mortal Kombat figures.

10/10/25 Todd’s NYCC panel. 4:00 PM Eastern.

Strangely, no McFarlane Toys YouTube TV show scheduled yet. They usually coincide with an event.

Generally speaking, NYCC has been one of Todd’s favorite shows in the past. He usually displays a massive amount of DC product. Don’t know how losing the license will affect that this year, but he does not seem to be taking his foot off the gas. Much of what’s been rumored has been surfacing. What happens next Friday will be very interesting nonetheless.

Hoping for confirmation on some rumors and some new stuff on top of that somehow bypassed the leaks.

I’m also gonna crawl out onto the proverbial limb and say we get a glimpse of some Absolute figures. With at least two other companies producing Absolute Batman in a similar scale, although higher end, that sorta pokes a hole in the theory that Mattel has called “dibs” on the Absolute characters. Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman both play to Todd’s strengths. The rest are in the ballpark.

That whole line ruled for the time. Definitely a product of the era, but man. I loved hunting those.
Wasn't one an internet exclusive? I feel like that and Clayface were the first figures I ordered from a "collector" site. Those and the Total Justice two-packs. I still have the complete line of Legends of the Dark Knight on display on my shelves, although I didn't get one or two of the Wizard repaints/contest figures. I think Man-Bat might be the star of that line for me.

I caved and pre ordered the Black Mask Batman. That way I at least have the character dressed up as Batman in case Todd doesn't give us a regular Black Mask before he's done.

We've got so many Bat-Villains in this line, but I hope before it's all done, we get Poison Ivy, Black Mask in a more Classic look, and Ra's Al Ghul.

There are obviously plenty more I'd take like Killer Moth, Ventriloquist, Firefly, Mad Hatter, etc. But out of all we have gotten I feel like if I had Ivy, Black Mask, and Ra's I would feel complete.
I'm more interested in the never-before-made figures, so a Ventriloquist and Mad Hatter in comic style are two of my top wants from any company, and I'd want a Talia more than Ra's. A comic accurate Firefly would be fun, as would Black Spider. But I'll never be satisfied when it comes to Bat-villains. Not until we get figures like Signalman, Calendar Man, Blockbuster, Cluemaster and on and on, all the way to the likes of Eraser, Deacon Blackfire, and NKVDemon. I'll buy 'em all!
