Testing to see if this'll let me post from IG or not. Gonna do some action figure pics this weekend and hoping I can re-activate my old action figure photo account over there.

IG links don’t render on Tapatalk, unfortunately.

I just released a book of my toy photography, Wild Toys, on Amazon, and it's full of Marvel Select shots. I'm doing a signing on the 26th at Imperial Castle Toy Store in Pawling, NY -- if you're in the area come by!

Longtime ML collector and always wanted to get into photography? Any pointers for a complete newbie???

I used to be a full-time photographer, got a great expensive Canon rig, and honestly 95% of the time I'm happier with my iPhone photos, so don't go crazy on an expensive camera. Mess around with light and angles and backgrounds and most of all, have fun. Actually if I have one practical piece of advice it'd be control your light source - even a ring light or cheap lamp with a colored gel over it (those things are pennies online, super cheap) can really improve your pics.

Thanks all for the tips - what do people use for backgrounds? ?AI ?printed backgrounds
A lot use handmade dioramas or just little temporary sets made using insulation foam and paint. Some do printed. Some even use their laptop screens and an image there and those turn out surprisingly well if you get the lighting right. Look into "Extreme Sets" which are cardboard dioramas but you have to be careful with lighting because sometimes the lights will glare off of the shinier cardboard they use.

I have a couple of Extreme Sets and if you can avoid the glare they look great. They ARE cardboard and I frequently cuss mine out for not standing correctly, but also being cardboard they're easy to prop up into position. They have frequent sales so it's worth waiting til you see one on discount to give it a shot. (I just broke out a castle one I bought for like 40% off last year and never had time to use it. Did I spend a half hour cursing's the cardboard stairs' parentage? Yes. Did Link look great walking down those stairs? Sure did.)

I have two of the Extreme Sets, the mansion (which I use as Avengers Mansion) and the diner, which I haven’t set up yet but I planned on somehow working it up as the Mansion’s dining room. But they’re so big that I don’t have space for them to all be set up.
