General Marvel Legends

Aheheheheh there’s tons of merchandise for the Catholic saint who shares my first name (allegedly), and any action figure of said saint would almost certainly come with animal accessories commemorating what this saint is most famous for but in real life could never ever ever have done because those animals literally never existed in the place this saint famously dealt with them.
🤷‍♂️
Hold the fuck on.... you're named after Saint Tiffany the Giraffe-tamer?

Not to get too into the weeds of religious history, but most Christians are perfectly okay with using imagery and physical representations of religious figures in their worship. The distinction they make with the false idol thing is whether the object itself is believed to have any inherent power or be the object of worship vs just being an icon that helps the devotee's thoughts focus on God or a certain saint or whatever.
And, additionally, different sects of Christianity feel differently about the practice as well. Traditional Catholics, for instance, are way more into their 'it's not idolatry if I say it isn't' than, say, traditional Protestants. Some Christians in more recently colonized/evangelized places still KIND OF worship their old stuff in addition to the new Christian stuff. Christianity is famously flexible because Christians aren't actually Christian and nothing matters or actually means anything.

Which seems sacrilegious. That is, if my understanding of the commandment "Thou shall not worship false gods" is accurate.
The key word there is “worship”. Too many people stop at the graven image portion, when the full text of the commandment continues with “…and bow down to it.” It’s not the sculpture or drawing that’s the sin, it’s just he worship of a manufactured object. While most collectors are rational about their hobby, it’s only a select a few that get obsessive, to the point where it might border on worship.

WHAT!?

So-called "Christians" taking passages out of context to support their own agendas!?

I have NEVER heard of such a thing happening!! I was raised Evangelical!!

As a life long Christian, this is all news to me.

Yep. That was the one I was referring to.

Not to derail this Marvel thread anymore, but Mattel dropped the ball on that Beastman and Evilyn availability. I'm going to sell my other MOTU movie figures now that I can't afford add to the collection

Honey West is a fun show. Anne Francis is gorgeous in very hip outfits. Fun show. Very reminiscent of Batman 66 and Wild Wild West in its action and kookiness. Surprised no one has tried to do a remake.

Giraffes exist.

Birds don't.

Nonsense. Birds absolutely exist. They're just wearing giraffe suits to fool you. Oh, easily fooled Tenime. Thinks that giraffes actually exist. That's how the birds get ya'.

. . . is now going to be my wife’s new nickname.
She’s gonna HATE you.
😈

I aim to please.

Well, one can certainly be a Christian without knowing a lot about Christianity. That's why theology is like.. an entire thing beyond 'just be this religion and you will know everything about every variation an sect on earth.' That being said, I can't imagine that entire post was news to you unless you've literally never looked beyond your neighbor's window when it comes to religion. I -have- to imagine every single Christian is aware that there are other versions of Christianity that don't necessarily agree with their version (hence there even being multiple versions).

All I saw was a blanket statement that lumped all Christians into one condescending category. The kind of statement that would get someone run out of town if it was made about any other race, sex, or religion.

One of the most entertaining things I’ve ever done is to take my raised-in-‘Mur’can-nondenominational-Christianity wife (don’t worry, she’s hella woke and anti-MAGA) to Italy on our honeymoon and show her all the traditional-Catholic things. It was wild, man. She kept walking through the Vatican going “what the fuck, look at all this fucking BLOOD EVERYWHERE why the FUCK is there a gory dead Jesus statue hanging from the wall?!?!” Being a world mythology nerd and agnostic survivor of Catholic high school, I just couldn’t help but chuckle. Sooooo much divergence and diversity under the gigantic umbrella of what could generally be called “Christianity”. Ahh, the world is a wondrous place.

What thread is this again??

Oh, right: yeah, let’s get that Champion/Starfox set!! HR is already on speed-dial!
