Hasbro and Disney renew the Marvel (and Star Wars) license

Happy to see this continue. I'm happy with the work they've been doing and Legends/Black Series remain the two lines I do the bulk of my licensed IP buying from (Classified on top of that) so I guess I really am just very happy with Hasbro's work in general. I don't think I'd start over. I need to scale back my collecting and I'd rather keep adding quality figures from a line I'm already deeply invested in than start over (I suppose I'd save a LOT of money if they lost the license, but do I really want to quit buying figures? No, not even a little bit...)

This was always the best "realistic" option. I'd like to see Jada expand as much as anyone, but a company that small grabbing the Marvel license probably wouldn't go well.

It was either Hasbro, Mattel, or McFarlane, and Hasbro is easily the best choice.

Honestly as much as I love Jada I never want them to get any huge properties like Marvel or DC. By huge I mean breadth of characters that they could make. They just release too slow and I love to world build so I'm good with them doing smaller stuff like cereal mascots and Scooby Doo but I'd go insane waiting on them to build out the DC Universe.

This is positive news! It would have been very surprising to see them not renew the license, but boneheaded corporate decisions that betray both company and consumer seem to be normalizing these days - "we're a toy company that doesn't make toys!" etc, etc.

And glad the renewal of both franchises was announced at the same time - saves that entire panic and "news" cycle of speculation.

While the news is welcome it cant honestly be too surprising. If Hasbro were to walk away from Star Wars and Marvel toy licences it would almost be a de facto admissio that they were quitting the toy business altogether...
and it looks like the news is suggesting the administration is already looking for the least embarrassing off-ramp from this tarriff nonsense, so hopefully that happens quockly and no permanent damage done, at least in terms of this hobby.

Well I, for one, am SHOCKED to learn this. I was told by many people in the collecting community that Hasbro would lose the license.

I'm indifferent. I personally have about all I need but glad for the vast majority that want more. I thought McFarlane getting the Marvel license might be interesting, but I wouldn't want to put up with the kind of variant games he plays with DC. Jada getting the Marvel or the DC license was never anything more than my own personal pipe dream.

For a time, I fantasized of a world where Marvel and Star Wars moved to other companies and I stopped collecting these properties. After all, DC and Star Trek are my first loves. Alas, it was not to be, the curse of a collector who loves many things.

You picking up the Nacelle Trek figures?

So happy to hear this for both Marvel and Star Wars. There is still so many things I want and hope for. Now maybe we will have enough time for the Marvel team to get back around to the Wrecking Crew!

I really want a new, updated Wrecking Crew (and as always, every X-Men or "X" related character ever.)

If the Marvel license changed scale this far into the game, I'd be done. It'd be customs to fill the few remaining holes in my collection and that'd be it.
