Operation Monster Force

I just did the math, and to be fair, I did include army builders (to the tune of 5 of the Blackwatch Agents), but I stopped at 655 bucks with about a page more of things to go.

That is unjustifiable.

Don't get me wrong, I love the concept. The idea of military controlled monsters fighting other *worse* monsters is right up my alley. Huge Hellboy fan, after all.

But if it came down to a property that I have childhood and young adult nostalgia over versus this original concept that I have zero emotional attachment to, other than that I only think is cool NOW, present day--I'm going with the nostalgia any day.

If it's down to Forgotten King or Hellboy, Hellboy wins every time. O:MF Dracula versus Bela Lugosi Dracula? Bela is getting it without pause. Or shit, if these were the old Playmates Monster Force figures redone? Lord--THOSE would win without a moment's hesitation.

In this case, Monster Force or Mondo Real Ghostbusters Ray and MOTU 1/12?

We know the answer to that.

As usual, Fresh Monkey is a victim of bad timing. This has happened many times before with them. Bad timing and too much at one time. Still, might end up with Chatsworth, though. A Bigfoot with a gatling gun can't be missed.

I’m definitely using this line to fill in fun gaps in my similarly scaled other collections. Dracula to fight Serpentor type silly stuff rather than going deep into the fresh monkey lore. I ended up getting Eraser and Donner because they scratched a classic monster itch at a scale I couldn’t find them elsewhere, one agent as a stand in for another individual character, and I added ye olde brain in a jar on impulse just the other day after having him in my cart for like six weeks. Still a hefty bill for four figures but I’m glad I held off on more. I just had to replace my entire electrical panel last week!

"All this company does is show pictures and never actually releases anything"

"This company is releasing too many things!"

To be fair, both things can be true. It took almost three years for these to come out. And when they finally do...well, not all of us have a grand to drop at once.

...I've also had a mortgage. And an electric bill. And a water bill. And a car payment. And vet bills. And medical bills. And student loan debt.

And believe it or not, there are other things people have interests in, so other toylines.

What an obtuse, borderline ignorant thing to say. Sorry that not all of us are trust fund babies. Some of us live in the real world and have other things that take precedence. Without a concrete timetable to prepare, no...we didn't have time to prepare.

The actual fuck...

Yeah, I think the issue isn't that people didn't know they were coming, but no one was ever given a firm timeline for releases. And -generally speaking- it's usually a safe bet with a smaller company to assume they don't have the resources to produce a hundred different items at once. I'd feel pretty confident, for example, pre-ordering Wave 5, Wave 6, and Wave 7 of Savage Crucible, because there's no way Harvinger is big enough to produce and ship them all at the same time. If they did, I'd definitely be unprepared.

It's genuinely kind of shocking BBWS didn't put out any notice that they were, in fact, going to deliver all this product simultaneously. Even Hasbro doesn't seem to drop this much stuff at once in any one line.

Yikes. Well, for me at least, this is why I had to do a spreadsheet to be ready for when preorders hit and ensure I'm able to handle them. If not, I gotta make some choices since I'm not a trust fund baby and have a mortgage, other bills and such. A bunch of Hasbro all hit at once lately but I knew I could handle it because of the projections I maintain.

And certainly, I think most of us do that.

But then other things come along, or a sick kid or a sick pet, or random car problems.

To say "You knew these were coming" is such a snotty thing to throw onto others. Like it's somehow our fault that FMF and BBWS is tossing that much at once.

how much stuff is actually hitting right now waves 0 and 2 and a refresh of 1? I know at least wave 0 was originally listed as hitting last Spring. Now, if I took the money I would've spent on the figures then and spent it on something else, that's on me. But I knew these were still coming and followed the pretty open communication from the company itself to know how things were moving along.

Things getting bumped up is annoying, like Shuma and Juggernaut going from November to September, but when stuff gets pushed back, you still have time to sort out finances.

I think the world and its financial realities are awful enough without folks taking personal shots at each other on this forum.

Yes, we knew these were coming. Yes, it is painful and shocking that they are all coming, all at once, all on top of each other.

Lol...again, this is just such a myopic viewpoint. Like we don't have random drops between Walmart Collector Cons, and Fall Geekouts and Haulathons and SDCC exclusives and NYCC exclusives and random surprise releases.

I think it's fair to say that most of us set aside money for the hobby...rarely for specific things. Especially when there isn't anything concrete to go by. It's different if I pay upfront. That money is gone, I don't have to think about that. But BBTS doesn't accept that.

No one is giving anyone shit for being able *to* swing that. Good for you. Glad you can. Super cool you're able to budget better than the rest of us. Why do you think it's acceptable to give anyone shit for NOT being able to?

Some folks here are doing this whole life thing on their own. They're allowed to have some sticker shock without catching grief from any of you.

Edit: Sorry, not sorry if this last post offends anyone in particular. Hope it does. That is one of those things that just sticks in my craw.

Don't be that person. Don't be someone who looks down your nose at others, or talks down to others for being upset over the cost of something, or being bummed at not being able to afford something. This whole seemingly classist "I can afford to do this, why can't you?" is such bullshit.

This is a luxury hobby--frankly, superfluous. That any of us are able to do it at ALL is awesome. Nothing is more unwelcoming and uninviting than the horseshit demonstrated above.
