G.I. Joe Classified Series

That is an interesting thing to do but it is not a good thing for collectors. Now we are going to have super limited editions that they don't even bother to advertise? So if you are lucky enough to be online when it drops you might be able to order one of 82? Really just 82? Can't wait to see what the ridiculous aftermarket price is going to be for this version.

Not really liking this idea from Hasbro. It's interesting, but I don't like it.

Edit:

I read the blurb more closely and it seems like Hasbro is playing a little fast and loose with people ordering this. I'm fairly certain the 82 people who ordered this version will get it. However the wording makes it a bit vague about actually getting it versus being surprised with getting it. Just be specific and stop with the word nonsense Hasbro.

I will say the variant art is miles better than the standard version. However I'm not sure I like the stubble look for Flint. I kind of think of him as clean cut like Duke.
The way I understood it is they will allot 82 of these as fulfillment to anyone who ordered retro Flint on Pulse. They haven't actually fulfilled their Flint orders yet, so it could go to anyone who preordred, or anyone who orders one since making the announcement. I've been ordering mine from Amazon since he's in stock. I wanted a couple loose and one to keep carded, with the rest of my retro carded Classified collection. I had canceled my preorders for retro Flint at Pulse, but ordered another after the announcement. If I get one, I get one. If not, I'll return this one to Amazon.

Did Hasbro lose the original art for him or what? They just keep doing new ones I don't like, heh. Not that it matters since I open.

At least they gave work to a human being instead of garbage AI. Only 82 in existence, apparently.

I think Covergirl looks like Heather Thomas. They had to be researching ‘80s pin up poster girls for this likeness.

Slice and Dice are here and they are fabulous.
I will say though that Slice suffers from that misaligned right hip thing that Storm Shadow, Night Creeper, etc have where the hip drags against the crotch piece when raised horizontally. It’s not as bad as some of the earlier ones, but still: that’s a bummer.
That’s my only complaint, though: this set is crammed full of awesome. And as cool as Slice is, Dice may actually be the star of the set. He’s just got so much character, and his heads seem to tell a bit of a story.

Flint not looking like a trashy right-winger from right now or 80s beefcake is still a hill I'll die on - Flint should look like an old movie star. Not like a sleazy talk show host and not like ten miles of bad road. Harrison Ford in Indy fit, not Sly Stallone in Rambo. Young Gregory Peck's my old school pick, John Hamm if I gotta pick a modern working actor.

Well, shit. Yeah, that's her. Although my REALLY random thought went with Teri Copley. If we're doing throwback casting. (She does look like they were aiming for an amalgam of exactly who would've been a cover girl in the 80s for the figure.)

On my jog today I was thinking a lot about how much I don't want a Joes film or show taking place now. I truly, truly want it to be an alternate timeline 1980s, keeping the Vietnam backstories for a bunch of characters, give it a synth soundtrack. I want Rock n' Roll and Airborne playing beach volleyball. Stalker, Hawk, and Duke having a serious conversation against a ridiculously dramatic sunset drinking product-placement brown-bottled beers with condensation dripping off the bottles. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow having a duel from train-top to train-top over Chicago with neon light reflecting off the rain. Cover Girl walking into the Pitt in slow motion. Gimme that grimy 80s vibe that still somehow feels innocent compared to the shithole world we live in now where everybody hates each other and everything breaks down a year after you buy it.

Bingo. I’m glad the Retro’s actual figure portrait looks like Rock Hudson. Perfecto.

Weirdly, this is also what I frequently think about while jogging. Agreed 100%.

With Alphaville’s ‘Big in Japan’ playing on the soundtrack. YES.

Got a cop set while at EB. Just had the one.

Haven't opened it, but I felt kinda bad in that social media slacktivist way. ACAB, buuuuut toys. I dunno. Who would have thought some Hasbro release would send me into an existential desert combing.

It also confused me that when they introduced Big Lob in the movie, he was drawn so similarly to Winston Zeddemore from the Real Ghostbusters. Why’d they do that?

And what’s the significance of the number 14 on both his and Bazooka’s jerseys?
