U.S. Politics

The technology really hasn't advanced in 80 years. I swear we're going to see all escalators eventually become stairs as anyone who knows how to fix them dies off.

May be an image of 3 people and text that says 'Neera Tanden @neeratanden X.com We are bailing out farmers because of Trump's inane tariff policies So we pay twice for the tariffs and for the government bailout they create. x.com/atrupar/status... Big government bad, right? Teh sOcIaLiSm.

Looking at them talking about eliminating jobs instead of furloughs if the government shuts down and I had the thought this morning that having worked in both government and tech... the least important government worker is very likely tuning a widget that keeps the entire agency running and nobody knows it, and there are way more useless tits in corporate America than there are amongst all these government workers being thrown out on their asses.

Not that everyone in corporate is useless, but in government I found I always was like OH, you do THAT THING? Great! And in corporate I was frequently like "what the fuck do you actually do all day other than pass work on to other people?"

That goes to directly why it's so fucking stupid that Trump, and conservatives broadly, want to run the government like a business and act like that's a more efficient way to do it. No it is the fuck not. The corporate world lives and breathes on having entire hierarchies built around slotting in positions that only exist for your stupid-as-fuck nephew to have a job without actually being able to fuck too much up. The DREAM job of many people in corporate jobs is to have the 'I don't really do anything here, but I'm paid very well to sit in my office' position. Not saying that doesn't exist in government, but it certainly seems like there's a lot less of that.

Isn't that what the current role of "President" is?
Nah. The role of the president right now is to be an agent of pure chaos. Clearly that requires some effort. You can physically see the toll it's taking on Trump. Kind of like in Warhammer 40k. The more connection you have to Chaos and Evil, the more warped and deformed you become.

You'll find dumbasses in any industry but particularly in government (in no small part because we underfund things that need to be or can be upgraded) the frequency where you find the ONE WIDGET GUY who keeps things running that we're now firing is wild.

And they do this in corporate, too, but private American companies can fuck over and re-hire people all they want. Replacing That One Guy in government is so much harder to do.

One of the reasons I'm so apoplectic about how AI is being implemented - nine times out of ten guys who don't do anything of value are deciding to replace people who have value with AI that can't do that thing, so you're left with a bunch of useless managers/executives trying to find a way to hire those same humans back cheaper. I mean the easiest person to replace with a DeepFake is the CEO (or in our case, the president).

"They cancelled my favorite show!"
"Yeah, probably had to spend that money helping Trump bail out Argentina's failed Libertarian government."
"Disney increased their monthly rate for Plus!"
"Well, Trump made so many people cancel their trips to Disney this summer because they're afraid of getting measles..."
