NECA - General Thread

It's too bad we never hear from Randy anymore as I'd be curious to hear his take on how Gargoyles went. Not that I'd expect him to necessarily give it even if he were still active somewhere. They still do business with Disney, after all, and he's not going to say anything that might get back to them and tick them off. I'm just curious if he sees it as a property not popular enough to sustain the kind of toy line it needs to do it right or if he thinks they had missteps along the way. All of that excitement up front followed by a slow roll might have stunted momentum. Distribution, creative choices, the god damn wings - seemed like most people were only sharing what bothered them about the line as opposed to celebrating it, but maybe that was just in our little circle. Regardless, in terms of abbreviated toy lines, it's one of the least tragic. They got out the main characters and biggest villains. Fans are always going to wish they got to some favorite character whenever a line ends (if NECA's TMNT toon line ended today there would be folks crying for Tempestra), but it's a pretty cohesive display as-is.

I also think that the line may have suffered because of how much shelf space these guys take up. Even with the folded in wings, to have a cohesive display you needed a lot of real estate on your shelf, which many longtime collectors do not. I think some people bought the first couple and quickly realized it was going to be way too huge for the average display.

If they had gone with relaxed wings I would have preferred that, but it's over and done at this point. We got what we got and it was pretty cool, but flawed. Mine are all still in boxes until I reorganize my basement anyway. One of these days they'll be free.

I got an email from Kid Robot advertising their NYCC stuff. I would assume that means if NECA has any exclusives that they will be showing them relatively soon.

Yeah, and they usually don't have much for NYCC. Just a couple, ordinarily, and not always a Turtle one. We just happen to know there is a turtle one this year since they already teased it.

Yeah, pretty sure it was you who called me a liar on Fwoosh when I said two years ago that the line was nearing done. I informed everyone there that Walmart had decided not to continue buying the line.

Your exact words were "Yeah, I don't believe you"...

I see you're still somewhat in denial.

The fervor was not nearly as existent outside of your home across the rest of the fandom.

NECA put out what they put out *in spite* of how the line was doing financially. They tried to keep it going as long as they could. If the line was as successful as you seem to think it was, it would still be going. But it's not. The end. That is only common sense. You don't end a line that is selling well. What are we talking about here, man?
I don't believe you even still. NECA doesn't put stuff out of "spite" of how a line is doing, if something isn't moving or selling well enough they will let it end and would've done so earlier if that was the case. It's not denial, it's knowing better and knowing how they release their lines over the years. That's actual common sense. Again, with how expensive it was to make those figures, they never would've kept it going as long as it went otherwise. The line came to a natural end, at worst. You got the whole main cast plus some extras. There's a lot of toy lines that would kill to make it that far.

Then you're a fool. That's the simplest and kindest way that I can put it. You lack basic common sense and you have a willful ignorance. Gee, what side of the political spectrum do you side on?

Allow me to explain this to you like you're five, so you can have a basic understanding of retail:

If no one is purchasing your wares (your wares in the case being the Gargoyles line), you are unable to put it out for the consumer to buy. It is a tit for tat business.

NECA sell. Walmart buy. Walmart sell. You buy. Follow?

At the time, I said that Walmart was no longer purchasing the line from NECA to sell to your happy ass.

In this case, Walmart was not seeing the return on Gargoyles figures being purchased to warrant continuing to support the line. Therefore, ergo, vis-a-vis, losing one of their biggest buyers caused NECA to allow the license to lapse. If no one is buying your line in great quantity, like Ninja Turtles, you can't waste the money on it.

And sometimes, yes...they DO put product out, despite it not having super interest, case in point, Flash Gordon.

And now, here's the part that might really kick ya in the pants: sometimes retailers see GREAT returns on a line in some previously sold figures, and commit to some figures in the line before seeing how some subsequent (that means "after") figures sell.

So now--NECA sell, Walmart say 'No, thank you'. NECA say 'Aww', *you* no buy.

See how that works? Did I dumb it down enough for you?

If the line were selling well, it would still exist. End of discussion. Your preferences and appreciation are not reality.

Christ on a cracker, man. I hope you're not married, because you would be a fucking bear to live with if this is any indication of how you exist on the day to day.

You're adorable. If whatever interaction we had on Fwoosh bothered you this badly, I'm glad for it. Because I didn't remember that at all, even with that charming attitude of yours.

Yeah, people who walk around behaving the manner in which you do rarely recognize their behavior. Good luck with that, cupcake.

You'll notice you didn't bother to refute anything I said. Telling.

I'm sorry, am I supposed to take you seriously when you accuse me of being what? A Republican and a wife beater? It definitely proves you don't know what you're talking about, so hey.

Didn't say wife beater, didn't even imply it. That's YOUR little flourish. Further example of your severe lack of understanding.
