McFarlane DC Multiverse

And not for nothing, I believe Jack Knight is going to be an expensive pain in the @$$ if I miss the Canadian preorder. Or if the Canadian stores are still unable to accept American preorders.

I certainly hope so. But my impression is that DT is a little bigger with more articulation plus an extra head. And in the immortal words of “Toy Guru”, “may not cost out”.

A $60.00 Elite figure would’ve covered his cost. A $35.00 Collector Edition figure may not. It’ll be an enormous disappointment if this line winds up and Detective Chimp remains unproduced.
This isn't aimed towards you but it amazes me how people jump to conclusions based off of information that isn't fact.

Zatanna & Detective Chimp were shown as Elite figures from McFarlane Toys. A price was never given for the figures. Someone assumed the price would be $60 since that was the same price as other Elite figures. So people are up in arms over a price that was never confirmed.

Zatanna shows up on a "leaked list" as a Collectors Edition figure. These lists usually end up being correct but have not been confirmed by McFarlane Toys. Maybe Detective Chimp is part of that but who knows. Detective Chimp could be changed to a mini statue like Ace & Krypto without an alternate head.

The Collectors Edition figures started out at $29.99. The most recent ones were $34.99. The next wave could be more. I wouldn't be surprised if the Batman Returns figures are close to $40 each if not more.

EDIT: Zatanna could be released as a Collectors Edition with a variant of course, but Zatanna could also be released as an Elite figure with Detective Chimp.

Will the Penguin from the Duck have two flippers?
Batman Returns - Batman, Catwoman & Penguin available pretty much anywhere.
Batman Returns - Max Shreck & Penguin with Duck available at Gamestop and then Max available at Target & Walmart
Batman Returns - Penguin Commandos available at McFalrane Toys Store

It doesn't look easy if you want everything but I'm sure there are websites that might have everything.
We're jumping through the maximum number of hoops here. If MTS had Schreck, that could be the one-stop-shop, but no. This line would be more fun if not for the ego of the guy in charge. I won't miss him.

The last few weeks of reveals gave us amazing new figures that may be the best versions ever released, mixed with a few stupid decisions like a bat logo with yellow paint splotched around it, and some of the best figures are platinum or difficult to get. Sounds like McFarlane in a nutshell.

Other than Penguin’s hand, I am actually pretty excited for all of the Batman Returns figures. Failsafe was a nice surprise. It’s just a lot in a short amount of time. Clearly they are pumping out as much product as they can before they lose the license.

Having pre orders go up at the same time for two separate retailer exclusives really sucks, though. Am I going to have to choose between Shrek and the penguin soldiers now? Hopefully they’ll be available enough.

Yeah, having multiple retailer exclusives go up at the same time is bananas.

This line is just so annoying to collect.

Watch, the conclusion of the line with be a Jack Nicholson Joker, and it will an Antartica exclusive.

You'll have to answer all of Tim the Enchanter's riddles correctly if you want the Nicholson Joker.

In all seriousness, though, I do feel like if Todd ever did do Nicholson Joker at this point, which I do feel at least somewhat confident he'll at least attempt, he'd save it for the grand finale. And like with Phoenix Joker, it'll be locked behind some wildly expensive pack with a bunch of other stuff. Or it'll be limited in some way that'll make it really hard to get after the license runs out.

Also gotta say, especially given Cristin Milioti winning the Emmy last night, it's a real shame there's been nothing for Sofia- no figures, no statues, nothing. I know Todd wouldn't even consider giving her a figure, but hopefully someone gives us something. Too good of a character and performance not to.

I too feel Nicholson Joker is not completely off the table, but I also know you all are right. It won't just be something you can order on BBTS if you want it. These figures that there is some kind of buzz surrounding are the ones that Todd is going to abuse us with. I knew Schreck was going to be a platinum because he's never had a figure before and Walken in general has a kind of cult following.

Still, I'm completely prepared to make my Arkham Joker the stand in if Nicholson Joker never happens. It will be all right.

There’s been a longstanding rumor about a Nicholson Joker coming from Todd eventually. That was prior to him losing the license. Makes little difference to me personally, but I’d still like to see it happen for the fans who want it. What’s puzzled me about it is why haven’t one of the higher end companies like Mezco or Mafex snatched up the rights and made one? Why leave it to Todd? Or Mattel?

I feel like the general consensus is that the likeness rights are far too expensive for most companies to acquire. Todd's mentioned before that, being a smaller company, he doesn't have all the same overheads that a larger company would, and doesn't have as many people to please, so that affords him a bit more freedom. I think other than Funko, which feels like it barely counts because likeness isn't exactly an issue for them, the only companies to really give us a Nicholson Joker are Hot Toys and Beast Kingdom, and since they charge higher prices anyway, I feel like it's perhaps not as big an issue for them. Mezco has their 5 POA set coming out, but I feel like that's another case of the likeness being juuust off enough to avoid likeness rights.

I wouldn't necessarily say people are leaving it up to Todd specifically, it's just that he happens to have the license currently. Nicholson Joker is one fans want from any company holding the license- I remember he was oft demanded when Mattel had the license before too, but likeness rights were too high. They said that's why we never got a Pfeiffer Catwoman either, but Todd is giving us her, and gave us Phoenix Joker, who was another actor with supposedly high likeness rights. I'm not even a huge fan of Nicholson's Joker (blasphemy, I know), but even I can admit how iconic it was/is, and to end the line without him feels incomplete, especially when we got so many others that other lines didn't get to, like Shreck and Catwoman. Then again, I feel the same about Neeson Ra's, and that's looking less and less likely.

Eh...it's not blasphemy to dislike Nicholson's Joker. I enjoy his performance, but I never once thought "man, THAT is the Joker". He's just doing his Jack-Nicholson-As-Crazy bit that he did in many of his films. It works, but I never thought he was really disappearing into the role the way Hamill or Ledger did.

Maybe McFarlane will treat a Nicholson Joker the same way the Phoenix Joker was done and add another figure like Bob the Goon.

Has anyone noticed that even the Batman Returns Duck doesn't match what was in the movie? It's close but no cigar.

Not to open up any cans of worms, but that's kinda how I feel too. He's not bad in the role, but he's just kinda....himself. It's not really a transformation like with Ledger, Hamill, etc. Not that it necessarily needs to be- I don't think Phoenix transformed, per se, despite being a very fine-tuned, incredible performance. I know a lot of it comes down to who people's "first" Joker was, and it was the first time Batman was really taken seriously, so a lot of folks have that nostalgia for it, and while I can certainly see why, and I'd never say anyone is wrong, I always felt a bit out of the loop when it came to my opinion on Nicholson. Then again, Joker fans in general are pretty staunch in their loyalty to the character and whoever they deem "best".

Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I'm definitely torn on the Duckmobile. Screen accuracy doesn't really matter to me, since I'm not really that attached to it. It's such a quirky, unique piece, but I just know that thing's gonna take up a chunk of space. I also like the baby onesie Penguin that comes with it, though if I were to get him, I'd definitely want to muck him up a bit. Since it's a GameStop exclusive, maybe, hopefully, it'll go on sale eventually like the Funko Duckmobile did. I think I could justify it on sale, but not sure about full price, especially given how expensive the rest of the wave is gonna be.

Yeah, I'm definitely in the "maybe if I find it on sale" camp with the duckmobile. I like it, but don't need it, and I definitely don't have the space for it.

No, you're right. I think his Joker is just OK and there there are other aspects of the movie that are not flawless. Still, the whole movie, for me, is iconic, warts and all.
