Marvel Legends Gamerverse

Couldn't wait and opened Wolverine's set. This fig is great. Just to get it out of the way, he's a little too tall, the plastic quality feels junky, and he could use boot swivels (come on...) and toe hinges. That out of the way, he's amazing and so much fun to pose. It's ridiculous how much better this two-ball joint torso setup is than waist swivel + ab crunch. This toy feels like the first time in a very long time that ML line has made any significant progress in terms of articulation. That stupid reverse ab crunch can leave forever, bring out a new Spiderman with this articulation style.

Instantly my favorite Wolverine ML and probably a top 10 overall, if not top 5 for me. Now I wish he had regular removable claw style hands so I could easily add some metal claws. I suppose a drill with the alt fists could do the job.

Small note, it's neat how he has the mafex-style separate bicep, so you can rotate the bicep without turning the elbow. Normally I hate single-joints but this works pretty dang well.

Yea if he means the Kitty from the Juggernaut wave then she's way too tall. Kitty is 5' 6" or less depending upon her age since she joined the X-Men at age 14 , but that figure depicts her as being around 6 feet or more. Not exactly a giantess since I have three ladies that size or more on my block alone (one is 5' 11", one is 6' 4", and my significant other is 6' 1"), but certainly far greater than average size.

I like this Cap.. but it just feels a bit too much like they're holding back for an eventual Maximum series figure.

In all fairness that is the kitty I’m referring to. But this figure is not based on her teenage look, it’s based on her later Astonishing costume from the Schism era by Simone Bianchi.

My ideal Capt would mostly mash up this one and the ML 20th version.

I'd be fine with any color blue between the two of them. I like the new torso bulk and articulation on this guy, but a definitive Capt *has* to have scale mail on him. I'd also like to see bigger eyeholes than what we've gotten so far. Toss in a plain, large shield, and we're in business.

As is, if we never got another Capt, I'd be fine with the 20th Capt with the newer Bucky Capt shield. But always willing to buy a definitive version for such a major character.

Maximum would be the 20th body with a lower torso hinge and toes... using the pinless limbs for Gamerverse

I don't think this Wolverine would work with 7" scale either. He's big, but not quite tall enough. I posed him standing next to the final Marvel Select Captain America and he looked too short.

He's the right sculpt and style for this video game. But even next to large characters like Samurai and Omega Red, he just looks too big. He's fully scaled up about 10%, all his proportions are intact. Just too big.

I'm playing around with him, and '97 Wolverine. Their torso articulation is kind of on par in terms of deep crouch, but the MvC double pivot is way more versatile for allowing twists in the torso. However, the butterfly joints on MvC suck, and are far more limited in range, especially backwards, than those of '97.

I tried swapping heads and hands between MvC and '97. The MvC head looks ok on the '97 body, but the fists looked too big. Conversely, the '97 head and hands on the MvC looked puny. Pinheaded, with tiny Trump hands.

Maybe this figure will look good fighting Jada Street Fighter figures? They aren't all that big either. This MvC Wolverine is just an anomaly.

Yeah the butterfly joints kind of suck but the rotation in the shoulder joints help compensate for that lack of motion in his butterflies. As far as to why his butterfly joints can’t move; I think it has something to do with the fact that his shoulder pads are just gigantic. Again, they’re stylized to match the video game look and it wouldn’t be on model for Hasbro to just reuse the same shoulder pads from previous Wolverine models. The MvC figure’s shoulder pads are more on par with Kaiyodo Wolverine.

And speaking of which, the MvC wolive’s claws are about the same length as the AY figure, but because his hands and arms are so much larger than the Kaiyodo figure, they don’t look out of place. They still manage to look proportional to his body.

I really wish the backward motion of the butterfly joints worked - he can barely move his arms back. The shoulder pad's getting in the way.

These aren’t standard butterfly joints we’re familiar with. The construction is different, and I don’t think the limitation is solely due to the shoulder pads. They’re looped around his shoulder peg, inside the torso like they have been on other Wolvie figures. But the yellow plastic of the butterfly joint moves differently. They’re not pegged in at the bottom to give you that front back motion. I can’t know without taking it all apart, but I think it may be closer to the McFarlane configuration for shoulders. Like a universal joint.

It pops out with a little heat. Nothing super interesting, it's a ball and socket with a cup. The cup doesn't really do anything besides make his shoulder less gappy. I really like this Wolverine, one of my favorite figures this year, but you're not missing anything if you already have a nice shelf Wolverine and you don't care about picking him up from time to time to crunch his torso

So it’s a universal joint like McFarlane’s figures but it’s not recessed enough to be functional. Hmmm that’s not what I was expecting. This begs the question if Hasbro maybe tried to reverse engineer a McFarlane figure and just fumbled the ball? Or can toy companies make specific patents for their action figure technology depending on who developed them? Because Todd seems to use universal joints exclusively and I’ve never seen them used elsewhere except this Wolverine, which is almost the off brand version. And McFarlane does seem like the type to copyright claim action figure joint technology.
