Tracking toy tariffs

The biggest takeaway I get from his first term is just how ineffectual he actually is. He is, by far, the stupidest person to ever take Office. Stupid, ignorant, a weak leader, lazy...and quite possibly undiagnosed ADHD. He loses interest in things quickly.

All one has to do is look at his first go around to see how little he actually got accomplished. He skated by on Obama's economy, and kept his cult by undoing anything that had Barack's name attached to it. That is certainly no way to govern, and that is effectively what he is doing now. "Oh, Biden did that? Undo it!".

As stubborn as he is, he will abandon these tariffs eventually when he loses interest. The issue is just how much damage it will do with our partners and allies until then.

Let's not slander those of us with ADHD. I have pretty advanced untreated adult ADHD and I can still effectively do my job of running an entire company without just 'losing interest' in major elements of how the company operates. It's not an ADHD thing. It's narcissism and complete disinterest in the job he's supposed to be doing.
That being said, anyone is kidding themselves that think Trump is going to just 'lose interest' in the tariffs and trade wars. Because the only thing Trump is actually committed to is his 'strong man' gimmick. He will absolutely not relent on any issue where doing so will be perceived, even just by himself, as showing weakness. If anything, he'll backtrack and blame other people and deflect and try to make himself a hero. But he's not going to back off just out of a lack of interest. And he won't do anything that another leader could point to and say 'I beat Trump.' He would rather drop nukes than appear weak to his feral lunatic base.

No slander. I have it myself.

Key word: undiagnosed. Would it surprise you that the man who denies science, downplayed COVID, is trying to *cure Autism*, thinks injecting bleach is a great idea, and touts passing a cognitive test as a milestone accomplishment would ignore the telltale signs of ADHD?

I definitely do not mean that as a slight against anyone who has it (again, myself included) but rather anyone like him who would be too proud to admit it. I meant as "He is all of these things...oh, yeah, and ALSO likely...". S'all. Sorry if it came across that way. 😀

BBTS is going hard on clearancing things. Looks like that's their solution to short term cash flow? Or maybe they're counting on folks wanting older stuff while they wait this out.
I don't know take a hard look before buying.

I was watching their wave 1 Silverhawks Ultimates set they had on sale for the past 6 months or so. Price - $112.50. Being in Canada it was a pretty darn good price but shipping, exchange and duties made it less so. I was hoping to see it drop a bit further, like $100 and I would probably bite.

Now they are asking $162.49 as a "sale" price? Why? They couldn't move it at $112.50 (clearance) and now they are trying to sell it at a higher price? Listen I get it, maybe they finally sold enough to warrant increasing the price, but to have it $50 cheaper for months on end and now trying to put it on "sale" for a higher price?

Like I said take a hard look before buying.

My read before and after Trump paused the majority of his tariffs was that this was always a stupid show of force to bring other countries back to the table so he could renegotiate what we more or less already have, but he could point to it and claim he's this genius businessman/negotiator (see the USMCA). Except Xi has a similarly stupid strongman act he plays for China, so now we're locked in this entirely unhelpful game of economic chicken with our third biggest trading partner. All because two men don't want to appear weak in front of the other so they're waiting for the other one to blink first.

And yet, this is far from the worst of his unsavory policies. It's enough to make me miss Dubya.

Yeah, I had a bunch of stuff in my saved for later (Anti-Eternia He-Man, Sun Man, etc) and all of them basically doubled in price but are still 'sale' prices (tbf, even the doubled price is less than original retail).

From Entertainment Earth:

Dear Valued EE Customers,

I want to update you on the current environment (specifically related to new tariff policy) and the impact it is having on our business and our pricing.

Since February, the Entertainment Earth team has been working as hard as possible with our vendor partners and internally to absorb as much cost impact as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot absorb all of the cost increases/tariffs, particularly on products coming from China. Additionally, the current situation is preventing many retailers (ourselves included) from importing product from China which will impact timing of product receipt.

A few things to know:

You will be receiving information in the coming days on price increases and/or delays based on cost increases from vendors and/or tariffs.
To protect you and your purchases, you will be able to adjust your orders without penalty, as we understand the new costs may impact your ability/desire for these products.

If the environment changes and we have the opportunity to reduce prices, we have every intention to do so based on positive changes in the cost structure of toys. Our goal is to support you in building and growing your collections.

Entertainment Earth was built by fans with the singular purpose of bringing pop culture joy to all of you. As fans and collectors ourselves, it truly pains us both personally and professionally not to be able to deliver amazing collector products from so many terrific partners at prices that meet your (and our) expectations.

Please know that we continue to advocate for improved pricing from all possible partners, that we continue to “tighten our belt” as much as possible to serve you, and that if we see positive changes that can lower price, we will pass them on.

Thank you deeply for your continued support and partnership. As always, please feel free to reach out to our team with any questions.

Best regards,
Billy Lagor, CEO Entertainment Earth, and the EE Team

Yep just got this message from EE as well. I know EE gets dragged in the mud in the collector community because they ship slower than most and charge a ton if you don't get up to free shipping. BUT, they're also the only company that's never sent me non-mint figures. They ship in the best-quality boxes which I always reuse. Until this past year, they never cancelled any of my orders. So it's a bummer seeing the prices skyrocket. Really not a good time for this to be happening when both Classified and Masterverse are firing on all cylinders.

Welp...

Exo-6 is done shipping to the US.

How long before Storm, Hiya, and any other Chinese manufacturer does the same?

"Effective May 2, 2025, the U.S. will enforce a new tax rule for packages from China or Hong Kong, charging 120% of the declared value or $100 (whichever is higher), increasing to $200 on June 1. While SFExpress and ChinaPost believe fees will apply after delivery, implementation details remain uncertain. EXO-6 has suspended shipments to U.S. addresses as of April 20 and will not resume until courier companies and U.S. Customs clarify procedures, ensuring it is reasonable to proceed."

We having fun yet?

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what many companies (not just toys) start doing until things get under control. $100 or more on any package is just insane. $5 t-shirt could suddenly be a $105 t-shirt? Yep, lots of packages are going to get abandoned if that’s the case.

The tariff on Chinese goods is up to 245%. Can someone good at math tell me how much a Marvel Legend will cost now?

Ok that’s only select goods that already had a 100% tariff like cars and surgical masks. Those go back from before this admin and the 145% tariff is just being stacked on top

I saw something this morning saying that DHL was going to stop commerce on anything coming into the US with a value of $800 or more.
