That’s a childhood favorite of my wife’s! She made me watch it (first time for me) a couple years ago, and Keanu gave precisely the performance I would expect from him.

My favorite role for Keanu is still as John Constantine. I've enjoyed the John Wick and Matrix franchises, but Constantine is the only role that I thought that he thrived in. I still have nightmares of showing the Bill & Ted movies as a movie theater projectionist in high school. HATED those even then.

I hadn’t heard that! Though I’m not a Matrix fan AT ALL so I haven’t looked into it.
Brandon would have been MUCH better.

I did hear that Will Smith and Sean Connery (as Morpheus) were attached at some point and it was one of the many high profile roles Connery turned down at the time due to “not getting the concept” (same with Gandalf in LotR) before finally accepting Allan Quatermain in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Oops.
Smith would probably have been better than Keanu, but it was 90s Smith so we’d have had to deal with all his annoying cocky “action guy” aphorisms: he’d have seen one of those robot squid things and said “I’ve got to GET me one of THOSE” then punch it and go “welcome to the REAL WORLD! HA HA!”

That is . . . not a take I’ve heard before.

I can’t even rate that performance, since the whole character in that film is so aggressively Not John Constantine that the whole movie washed for me.
 
If we're trying to stay on topic, has anyone else been stealthily adding one or two figures at a time from Monster Force to your preorders on BBTS and worrying about the consequences of paying for them later? Well, Monster Force and other Fresh Monkey stuff. I definitely went from "I'll buy TWO figures" to being a kid in one of those candy stores where I just keep picking the scooper back up and pouring more sour patch kids into my bag

I agree. I don't really hate on Keanu so much, even with Dracula. Yes he's awful in it, especially when there's so much else I love about the movie, but I can live with him. But yeah, I wasn't a big Matrix fan either, even less so the sequels, but supposedly Lee was their first choice, and he was also supposedly cast as Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat movie.

Mine too! We recorded it off an old broadcast back in the 80s and watched it every year. I still watch it most years around Christmas.

The only scene in the whole Matrix series I like is when actual real-world humans are fighting the squid guys with mechs. I’m not a gamer nor into VR/AI, so all the “in the Matrix” stuff just fell totally flat for me, not “real” so I just couldn’t care.
Also, on a personal note: I’ve dressed in a style reminiscent of Neo for, like, 40 years, and when those movies came out I started getting catcalled CONSTANTLY walking down the street. “HEY NEO!!!” Fucking constantly. It’s been better the last decade or so, but fucking hell’s bells it’s so annoying to get catcalled in general, but even more annoying when it’s referencing a film I absolutely hate.
Grrrrrrrrrr.

AAaaaaaaaaanyway, I’m so hyped for the next “season” of Monster Force! SO MANY ZOMBIES!
I do wish we could get some more “traditional” monsters a la Dracula though.

Part of the problem was that those catcalls went hand-in-hand.
True story: a close friend died very young from cancer the same year as Columbine. I was boarding a plane for the funeral, it was raining, I was dressed in black with a long coat, and some fucking lady grabbed me by the lapel and yelled “DON’T YOU THINK THAT’S INAPPROPRIATE?!?!” As politely as I could, I pointed out the weather and let her know my friend was fucking dead. I shouldn’t have had to say anything.

Actually about 5 years ago I was in a bathroom in Vegas and a drunk jackass got REALLY aggressive with Neo/Columbine shit, definitely trying to force a fight. He must have been REALLY drunk since I don’t look like someone you want to fight.

Christ. Well, I kinda regret my 'joke', because I thought it was a kinda archaic callback, but apparently it's still damned timely. I was asked 'what are you, some kinda columbine guy' only once by an idiot.

Also, "No, what's inappropriate is what I do next" would be a fun response, then put a clown nose on her or something. Gothy the Clown!

Its funny because I'm hyped too but don't care at all about zombies and am super eager for all the other figures.

The wave that is truly scary for me is the Crimson Moon. Thats the one where I keep sprinklung one more preorder on top, so when that wave hits I'll owe BBTS like a thousand bucks.
 
So we have vampire troops, zombie troops, clandestine armies (Crimson Moon), Old God cult troopers, a donut eating Sasquatch, a few werewolves, Mummy King, and government agents that take vampire infused steroids. What corner of monster-dom haven't been covered? Attack dog Chubacabra's? Fish men from Atlantis? Lizard people from the center of the earth?

P.S. All this Keanu talk and no mention of Bill and Ted makes me a bit sad.
