Tracking toy tariffs

$39 extra bucks is like a whole extra figure! Not looking forward to that Scarlet Spider, whenever it ships.

Is this one of those cases where USPS will charge me when I pick it up at the post office? Or am I charged directly from customs (that seems over complicated)?

If I ordered from China or Japan and it was arriving UPS, does UPS charge me at my door? Send me an invoice later?

In theory, if the business you're buying from is based overseas, you should see a price hike in the cost of shipping to cover the tariff. If the business you're buying from is based in the US, but gets their products from overseas, they're more likely to bake the tariff into the cost of the product. However, if the business you're buying from is based in one of the many countries that have halted all shipments to the US, they might just sit on the order until their postal service resumes shipping to the US.
 
Tariffs are really starting to hit now. Checking prices on new Lego sets and you can see those 3 in 1 Halloween creator sets are now like $80, they used to be like 60

Still the items probably don't fall under any sort of enhanced tariffs/costs and still got dinged for almost 15% (not counting taxes).

I can only imagine what it must be like for stuff going into the US right now, and that is probably why so many companies are just saying "fuck it, let's wait and see what happens." Because why get dinged by FedEx and the other couriers, then the customer gets dinged as well for who knows how much?

What I've never understood is BBTS or other deliveries will whack me when it's FedEx, but Hasbro (they used to use it) and Mezco never ever did, at much higher values.
 
I've got a whole wave of shit coming in from various countries. I can't wait to see how much my tax hike is.

Right, I've seen tariffs included in the final cost for a bit now. I was more curious about the new fees based on the item price now that the $800 de minimis is gone, which is a separate deal from tariffs. I think I saw somewhere that the fee starts at $80? So I'm trying to figure out when I'm charged that extra $80, and who collects it.

*I might be wrong about the $80 number, but it was something like that I think. Unless I read it wrong.

Hadn't seen it posted here, but last week they put a sign up at my Post that just says if you're shipping to the US, you gotta pay all the fees now up front because ain't no one calculating it and they can't be bothered.

The $80 is a USPS flat fee because they're unprepared to handle the end of de minimis. It's supposed to be temporary until they have a system in place to calculate the correct fees. I think it was originally supposed to end in 2027, but then Trump said, "da minimissushes is bad. End it in three weeks."

Can you imagine going to the post office to pick up your $20 item and the person behind the counter asks you for $80. How many abandoned packages are there going to be? Who handles all that? Does it go back to the sender or stay in the US forever? Then there must be a massive number of credit card chargeback. No wonder nobody wants to send anything to the US.

Yup.

They're also making it part of their contract negotiations, like "our LAST raise didn't account for all this Trump bullshit and if you want us to deal with it we want even more money."

Her whole thing is that she likes cute things, but other people don't understand the stuff she finds cute. She needs blood for her quirk to work, and she thinks blood is cute. She just wants to be accepted.

Thanks for this reminder that I wanted that figure. Was able to find the last one on Amazon Japan for a not absurd price. As expected, every other North American option was ridiculous.

Ah, ok...so it's only USPS? Before all of this mess, I had never even heard of the de minimis stuff because I've never imported anything over maybe $200, so I'm playing catch up and googling the info doesn't help a lot. So right now, it's $80 until they get things figured out, and you're saying they collect it at the PO when you go in to pick up the package at the counter?

You're right, there will be lots of abandoned packages and it's going to cost the US Postal Service a ton on return shipping fees. I just bought the Heatboys TMNT Leo (the one that transforms into the Turtle Van), and I bought him because he was only a hundred bucks on Gundamit. He retailed initially for $180, but I didn't think it was worth that. When he was on sale I jumped on it. If they put an $80 fee on him, then he'll be back to that original $180 that I didn't want to pay 🤣 and if that happens, my post office will get to enjoy a new transformer because I'm not paying it. Maybe he can be an office mascot or something.
