Operation Monster Force

Bill Murphy of Fresh Monkey boldly admitted they were using AI for their packaging art, and I like to think that he was really surprised at how much negative reaction he got for it.

I don't have those figures, so I don't know if they ultimately shipped with that art or if/when the practice stopped entirely. I just remember some heated Facebook comments about it.

So I'm looking at that page, and I'm a little concerned about something - are they using AI art now? I'm finding it tough to find attribution for the character images for that line and being online in 2025 has made me distrustful of literally anything I see.

It is AI and people called them out on it on Instagram.

The stuff they've done with BBTS on the other hand, isn't. I can't recall who did the comic for Monster Force, but the Crimson Moon art is all done by Dana Black who I knew in a previous life when I was doing more comic stuff. In fact it was kinda wild because I hadn't seen or talked to Dana in some years and suddenly his art crossed my feed and I did that pointing meme from Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.

(Meanwhile every time people talk casting Batman or Wolverine I'm grinding my teeth like 'cast the skill, not the looooook')
Except when you're translating a character from a visual medium, the look is just as important as the skill, or you just shouldn't adapt it.

I am beyond sick & tired of Batmans who don't look like Batman (and don't get me started on Huge Jacked-Man, lol). "Hate" isn't a strong enough word. (Then you have Affleck, who looks the part, has the skill, but then is given possibly the WORST material & direction...sigh)

Someone who can embody the character is perfect for voicework, but not on camera if they look nothing like how the character has always looked in art or graphics (text-only descriptions are impossible, because everyone who reads it has a different picture in their head, and no one will ever be satisfied, so the best you can do is "close enough" and lean harder on the skill).

All previous aside, agree with the general tenor of the discussion. Cast for the talent and not the look. Occasionally you get a Chris Reeve, but you can't let that blind you to a Michael Keaton or a Heath Ledger.
And neither will be an acceptable Batman or Joker for me. Nicholson or Phoenix (and I think Leaf is one of the worst actors who's ever tried the craft), either.

Love Ledger's performance & dialogue, hate that he doesn't look like The Joker.

the look is just as important as the skill
Maybe . . . but “the look” can be achieved with makeup/costume/reasonable physical transformation via diet/exercise. As a baseline, the skill is WAY more important. Like way way WAY. Otherwise: we get only Dwayne Johnson types playing superheroes, and that would be absolutely awful.

Oh, don't tempt my problematic-but-meaning-well take on him not being enough of the correct race to be Roadblock, lmfao...bad skill AND wrong look!

OR! OR!! How completely racist it is to say "close enough" with Characters of Color.

I love John Cho, but Hikaru Sulu is Japanese, not Korean. They are very much NOT "the same thing." (There are a couple other instances where I noticed filmmakers were trying to pass Korean as Japanese, and it just...it's gross, IMO.)

*waits to be accused of "having issues" with Korean people, lol*

I'm talking about the fan casting. When people rattle off actors who look like their comic book visual of the character without any care to whether that person could or should be the character. Don't Johnny Bravo your characters. Just cos he fits the suit doesn't mean he belongs in it. Never fan cast anything.

I swear to god if they cast another six foot three actor as Wolverine I will spontaneously shit a brick. This is Hollywood, you can't tell me you can't find a mean little fucker of a human being who is under 5ft10, that's 87% of male actors. Tell them to take off their lifts, you don't even need special effects like the cheap shot they splooged into DP2.

I keep seeing Alan Ritchson for Batman and I'm like... he probably should be a superhero, he probably should be in the DCJGU, but can he be Bruce or are you just wanking to how his pecs will look with a bat symbol on them?

That last part. Definitely that last part.

😂 😂 😂
How are we not best friends already!? 😅

And yeah, I didn't think that was as funny as everyone else, either. Proof that Jackman is the wrong casting, even if he were "short enough." (I have also never liked his portrayal, either. And I like him quite a bit as an actor.)

I want a thick, ugly motherfucker who looks like he could tear down a building IN REAL LIFE, NO SUPERPOWERS, despite his stature, if you piss him off.
