Wouldn't be surprised if it's just me picking these up but anyway! Missing Link is the name of Takara's new Transformers line that essentially remakes the original 70s/80s Diaclone/G1 figures - plus unused prototypes! - but with the benefit of modern engineering so they're no longer complete bricks like the originals. Knees, hips, elbows, open and integrated fists, moveable heads, you name it, plus all the traditional sticker detailing is tampo'd on, or even sculpted in now.

Unsurprisingly, the first figure announced was Optimus Prime:

This came in both toy (with trailer) and anime variants, and was also repainted as Sentinel Prime (with a black Nemesis version announced).

Then came minibots Bumblebee and Cliffjumper:

And now we have the latest addition to the line, the OG carbot himself, Sunstreaker!

Unlike the original G1 figure, Sunstreaker now has built-in hands, working hips, knees, and a head, all while retaining his trad looks and transformation.

Next for release is Arcee, who never had a G1 figure, only a prototype that never saw release. She comes in a strangely appealing orange & white prototype paint job, as well as well as an anime version in her usual colours. Rumours suggest that Ultra Magnus is going to be announced anon, which should be a wild ride because anyone who's seen the original knows how limited that guy was.

In any case, this has quickly become one of my fav lines. After years of nightmarishly complicated engineering, it's great to be able to just pick up a Transformer and switch back and forth in under a couple of minutes. If they want to redo the entire OG cast like this, I'm all in.

But those prices! I thought about Arcee, but couldn't justify it. Interesting about Sunstreaker's hands. I thought it was just added articulation.

I'm part of the heretical crowd that prefers non-transforming Transformers. Or, at least I would if I was going to buy any. I imagine these scratch a very specific itch for a lot of people. They are unique in the best way.

I’ve been in for just about every release, though I skipped black Optimus and will skip white Sunstreaker. Speaking of which, is Sunstreaker already out? I have him ordered at Pulse at the very least, possibly also TFSource, and I’ve gotten no notice of him being in stock at either place.

Yup, he’s out but I ordered mine direct from Japan hence arriving quickly.

Ultra Magnus is getting revealed this weekend, here's a teaser:

I am dying to see how the hell they get this to works, the joints on the Prime legs on the original don't line up with the armour at all!

Seriously. This is going to either be a marvel in Transformers engineering or a total shitshow.

I have all upcoming Missing Link figures preordered. Sunstreaker, Arcee, even the second versions of Bee/CJ. TFSource has Streaker in stock, but for 99.99. My conviction to save the $15 difference between this and my Pulse PO is wavering.

I've never handled a G1 Ultra Magnus. I didn't have one, my brother didn't have one, and none of my TF collecting friends had one. My parents knew someone like OP was important enough to buy two, but they might've seen UM as just a white OP with a different trailer. I bet they didn't get the concept of the armor.

The Prime bot is like half transformed. You just transform the head and legs, the arms stay in truck mode. He plugs into the armor via the wrist holes, his legs just dangle. The UM head fits over the Prime head like a helmet.

The only Transformers that really do anything for me are G1 series 1. The fact that they were die cast parts and that they turned into real cars are the selling points for me. So getting that plus the articulation is really tempting. I just haven't found myself with the extra $$$ to dip into this line.

Missing Link Ultra Magnus is listed at BBTS to preorder for 224.99!!! Gonna see what Pulse is charging first.

I just want more of the smaller cheap plastic versions like the Deluxe Optimus we got & Ultra Magnus repaint coming out in that 4-pack. 🥺

BBTS changed Ultra Magnus to coming soon and has no price at the moment. I haven't preordered yet. I hope he's not going up in price.
